Horrible customer service today!
I get an olaplex treatment once every couple months in order to keep my hair healthy. Since I haven’t had one in a while, I decided to get one during my break. Calling the front desk was easy, she was able to fit me in right away. Went to my appointment and was greeted by Thai? The front desk staff said he will be doing my treatment. As I’m changing into a robe, Thai tells me that he will be doing a Keratin treatment, I said no that isn’t right, I want an olaplex treatment. He then continues to tell me that there is no such thing. I have gotten this treatment at sukis numerously, what do you mean there is no such thing?! He then proceeds to ask another stylist who apparently had no idea and rolled his eyes at me lol. Instead of working with me, he hands me off to an assistant to wash my hair and supposedly do the olaplex treatment. The wash and «treatment» took 10 mins. I was shocked when the assistant asked me to go to the work station to dry my hair. When was the treatment applied? Lol I got moved 3 times, to different stylists just to get my hair dried. The only reason why I am giving this review two stars is because the head massage was good and the stylist at the end who dried my hair, Tatiana was awesome! I will not be coming back to this location

I called two weeka ago to make an appointment but my regular hair colorist Rio is away on vacation for one month so I tried someone new (Tyeesha) because I really needed someone quicker before my bf’s mom comes to visit this weekend!
When I walked in Tyeesha assessed me and despite the fact that she was booked for a big appointment with me she recognized that my ombré touch up required less than more so she time-​managed and flipped the schedule around with June who was to follow my color with a cut
Big thank you to Rio for making my color low maintenance in the first place and to Tyeesha for keeping it real. June, I love the cut by the way I already knew that was going to be the highlight of the appointment because it was a big change!
You guys and the team is awesome. Want to shout out to Antonio too because he wasn’t available for my cut this time but he killed it last time and remembered me from six months ago and came up to me to say hi ~

LOVE my cut… thank you Katie. I was THE client from hell trying to describe (poorly) what I wanted… all over the map, flipping from one idea to the next. How she had the guts to even cut my hair I don’t know but she just dug in and honestly… she did what I’ve been trying to get stylists to do for years… texturize not layer… texturize…this girl knows her stuff!

Had an excellent experience at this salon — colour by Rio and cut by Keith. I’d never been before but somehow they managed to get both the cut & colour exactly how I wanted it. All the other staff I dealt with (reception, shampoo, etc) were incredibly friendly and professional — very good service. Be prepared to pay a bit more than the average salon, but personally I thought it was worth it to guarantee good results. The only thing that I was a bit disappointed by was the inability to add my tip to the bill (paying with a credit card). Would have appreciated knowing this in advance so that I could ensure I had enough cash to tip both stylists.
I look forward to going back again.

I finally found a colorist (Aaron) that listens to me, while adding his input. I used to always have hairmares not anymore. I love how it is casual, you don’t need to talk if you don’t want to and zone out.

My stylist is Antonio. I feel so lucky to have finally found someone like Antonio that not only understands my hair but also can understand what is important to me. My first session with him was amazing. I was telling him how beautiful my sister’s hair was and that I wish I had her curls and he told me that my hair was actually like hers but with the right cut. I could not believe it at first but I thought to give it a shot. He actually cut my hair (with a very fun technique btw) in a way that my natural curls came to live.
He did not only cut my hair but he also went a step beyond and thought me how to style it. He also showed how to use the diffuser the right way as I was telling him how frustrating that tool was. I could not believe how amazing, professional and caring his service was!
I left the salon feeling amazing, not only because of how professional and great my hair looked but also because thanks to Antonio I fell in love with my natural hair. This is a huge deal for me because I have always felt that my hair was not that great and now I love my natural hair. I am now getting compliments on my natural hair which never happened before. Thanks Antonio!
I have now become a regular at Suki’s. I will recommend Antonio to everyone.

After a couple of «meh» hair experiences, I decided to splurge a bit on a more upscale place. I had read good reviews about Suki’s, so I made an appointment. I wanted bayalage done and had a cosultation with the colourist before my appointment.
The location is beautiful and was bustling. My hair had some red tones in it, which I knew wouldn’t be easy to remove. The colourist tried to convince me to part my hair in the middle. According to her, my side part was outdated. I agreed to let her move it closer to the middle. My hair was washed by a different person and I could hear the colourist complaining to another staff member about a customer while I was getting my scalp massage.
My hair was cut by a different person. They did a pretty good job but the front layers were a bit too short (ironic that my side part was «outdated» but the mid-​90s Jen Aniston layers are ok?)
My hair was kinda orangey at the end and the highlights were very subtle. I was a bit disappointed considering how much I paid.
When you pay, there isn’t a percentage option on the machine, which is a bit annoying. Also, since three people worked on my hair I had to try to calculate the tip amount for each one.
Overall, I don’t think this place was worth the price.

Great cut with Antonio — knowledgable, kind, patient and talented senior stylist. He is also a great conversationist and is obviously passionate about what he does. Would recommend him to anyone.

I’ve been travelling around USA and Canada and have had my hair done once a week in each spot. I have to say that I was treated very professionally by my stylist, Stephanie. She gave me an amazing cut and restyle, love it. Thanks Steph

My stylist was June. I ended up seeing her because Melissa wasn’t available and I needed a cut asap. My hair is long, layered and at the time I was trying to grow it out and fix the butcher-​job that a stylist from another salon did during my last cut. I explained that I was growing it out, wanted all of my split-​ends taken care of, wanted the layers fixed and that I ALWAYS part my hair on the side.
Basically she didn’t listen to me at all. After the cut my hair was still full of split ends and she didn’t fix the messed up layers at all. I tried to get her to fix it once but it still looked the same. To top it off she cut my hair so that it could be parted in the middle or on the side. I don’t understand why anyone would do this if I make it crystal clear that I only wear my hair parted on the side. Anyone who wears their hair with a side part but got a cut for a middle/​side part knows that it looks completely uneven. UGH! What an enormous waste of $ 100. I cannot believe that I paid for that.
I will never again deviate from Melissa. She’s expensive but meticulous and totally worth every penny. She is by far the best stylist I have ever used. She always takes into consideration my type of hair, how it sits naturally and most importantly what I want! If it wasn’t for my negative experience with June would be leaving a 5 star review because of Melissa.

I almost don’t want to write this review in that my hair stylist will get enough harder to book with. Ladies– Simon is a god when it comes to cutting hair. I will literally go there and just tell him to do whatever he wants. He is so incredibly meticulous and will spend as long as it takes cutting strand by strand to make it perfect. I’m a perfectionist so I really appreciate his attention to detail. However be warned – coloring your hair is a whole other topic. They are inexperienced and will ruin your hair. Suki’s is good for cuts not color!

I’ve been coming to Suki’s Downtown for two years now, after stopping numerous women in Downtown Vancouver with good haircuts and being told that Antonio is their stylist. Getting my haircut with him is pricey, around $ 80+, but absolutely worth it. He takes his time, communicates effectively before attempting anything remotely «experimental» (bangs, layers, undercuts, different scissors, etc) and manages to experiment with my hair without pushing it into the realm of «bizarre» or requiring massive styling. I admit that I have been not so happy with two of the twenty of the haircuts that I have had from him… I felt they were too safe or slightly repetitive, but never badly executed. highly recommend for someone who is as particular about their hair as I am (!)

For the price of the cut it’s very reasonable. I couldn’t believe that for my pixie haircut took June 1.5 hours to do that’s including wash and after rinse they take their time. I felt that they are very accommodating. You know the akward feeling you get when you go to rich expensive salons and they eye you like you are not supposed to be here, this place wouldn’t even make you feel anything like that. They are very thoughtful in asking if you need any drinks or if you are comfortable or not. I love this place.

First of all, I have been jaded by many many bad haircuts in my life. I have very thick, long, wavy/​curly hair, and most stylists just go to town on it, and usually it ends up being nothing like what I asked. Therefor I generally cringe at the idea of going in to get it cut… and generally avoid it (and go about once a year!).
WELL, spur of the moment (and more so to do with the fact that I had horrible split ends) I decided to google «best vancouver hair salon», and Suki’s came up (thanks to the Georgia Straight ‘Best of 2012′). I AM SO GLAD I DID.
I went with Antonio, and he is absolutely AMAZING. He did exactly what I wanted, and gave me super sexy Victoria’s Secret hair. He purposely cut my hair so I could just let it go naturally on my own (I’m too lazy to style it ever), and layered it to give lift to my already existing curls. I have never been so pleased with a haircut.
Antonio made me feel 100% comfortable, and with good reason — he’s an outstanding stylist (and not to mention stunningly gorgeous). Worth every penny and I will definitely be back!

I’ve been going to Suki’s for about six or seven years, whenever I’m living in the city.
At first I used to go to Suki’s academy since the haircuts are cheaper and the quality is superb. It’s great to go with the school as long as you have the time and patience, since the students are learning. It will take longer than normal but you’ll always get a great cut. I love how dedicated everyone is to their craft at Suki’s.
A few years back I met a stylist that was able to lure me away from the academy and into her styling chair. I’ve been seeing Joy ever since.
Joy is very easy to talk to and also knows her craft extremely well. She is always striving to become better than she already is. Joy is happy to listen to your needs and find the cut that is right for you. Also if you want her to get creative, she is capable and excited for the challenge.
You’re in good hands with Joy and at Suki’s in general.

The first time I went to Suki’s was in 2006. I was astonished at the quality of the cut; I’d never had such a great haircut.
I’ve been going to Suki’s ever since because, well, I trust them. I’ve seen about 5 different stylists over the past 6 years. I’ve changed stylists only because sometimes the staff takes a leave and I’m left to find someone new (no biggie).
My current stylist at the downtown salon is Joy. I chose to see her because I was looking to change my hair style dramatically, and I liked the edginess of her appearance in her profile on the Suki’s website. What I like to do is show her some pictures of haircuts that I like, and tell her to go for it. Her cuts never cease to amaze me.

Have had my hair did here by two fabulous ladies. One time was color– this faded, too quickly. One time was fantastic.
Had a subpar waxing experience that needed cleaning up. However, the salon staff redeemed the bad experience and allowed me to like them again.
I’m not sure if I would go back as the pricing was very high.

If I could give a zero star, I would.
One of my worst hair cutting experiences EVER.
I always had my hair cut done with Janet (or Janette) at Suki’s in Richmond. She had been SUPERB. Due to health reasons she is no longer working at Suki’s. Desperately needing a hair cut, I opted for Suki’s in Downtown Vancouver which is conveniently located by my work place. I blindly made an appointment with anyone who was available on a Friday at 4:30pm. The hairstylist I had was — Antonio.
At the beginning of the appointment, Antonio asked me standard questions to get a feel of my style and preference. I said I wanted something low-​maintenance and convenient. I didn’t want anything that requires flat ironing or blow-​dry styling. I don’t want to give up half an hour of sleep every morning on fixing my hair prior to slaving yet another work day. I thought my message was clear and straight to the point. I was wrong. Big time.
Antonio gave me a classic bob, which hair length was evenly cut from front to back. After 1.5 hours of cutting, he showed me the final work. «I don’t like it», I said. Antonio was mortified. I said to him that my hair looks great and fresh now because he just blew dried and flat ironed it. No matter how much I try to duplicate there is no way I can make my hair look remotely close to what he did in the salon. I was very disappointed and upset after my cut. He did not listen to my needs and deliver what I wanted. My hair cut made my hair look dense and heavy. The worst part was, the hair style made me look old.
Antonio offered to give me some layers, a complementary hair cut (more like a hair fix) in 2 to 3 weeks time if I still didn’t like it. I didn’t bother with the offer but did go back once to get a bang trim. The problem with the cut he gave me was that it required constant maintenance. It needed to be trimmed every 1.5 week to 2 weeks or else the bottom of the hair would look uneven and choppy.
I was very bothered by how he didn’t listen to my needs and was bragging how expensive his shears were ($ 1,000.00 and up). So what? You can have world’s most expensive hair cutting tools but if you failed to listen and deliver what your clients wanted, it’s still a failed job. I left the salon unsatisfied with a burnt hole in my wallet.
Antonio, maybe you should strip down your pride and go back to school for more training. I think it’ll do you good in the long run. Consider it.

The wash was good and the cut was not.
I’m not sure if it was a communication/​language problem but when I came in, I had long hair almost to the middle of my back and when I left, it was just pass my shoulders even though we had agreed on 2 inches.
My stylist, June was nice and patient and I’m sure a very abled stylist but she didn’t prepare me for such a big change.
I had wanted just a trim and to blend the layers. I explained that I was going to a wedding that Sunday and wanted to make sure I had hair to cover my clavicle and as much of my chest as possible. I emphasized this using hand gestures repeatedly.
During the consultation, she convinced me to take off 2 inches. However, as the cut progressed, she told me that she needed to take more off to blend the layers. She blamed it on my last cut which was 3 – 4 months ago and it was at Aveda so I’m sure it can’t be that bad and I would have grown some length for her to play with. I was surprised that she didn’t point out the faults of my prior cut during the consultation because I would have insisted on just a trim and then come back much later for a cut. Or, she could’ve trimmed the bottom layer and let the top layers to grow out. Whichever.
Even after she flat ironed it, I could see about 1.5 inches gaping out from under the layers. It was a blunt cut with layers on top so it was a very obvious juxtaposition. It was like a mullet. She offered to do a re-​do if at the end of the week I still didn’t like it. Her idea was for me to grow it out for 3 months.
I went home, washed it and hated it and went back the next day. I asked her to blend it so that the blunt bottom layer won’t stick out like that. She ended up layering the top layers EVEN more, thereby needed to bring up the bottom layer! It was sooo frustrating that I bursted into tears. The last time I did that was when I was twelve. And the last time I had hair that length was in 8 years ago. I felt that June wasn’t really listening to me and did some textbook cut.
I don’t know what she told the receptionist but I caught the receptionist comforting June as I was crying!
I hate it at this awkward length where the hair either curls out or under, forming a bump as it hits the shoulder. What is the point of the consultation if what the client wants isn’t taken into consideration? June suggested that I go and get some real hair extensions and that «it’s time to try out a new style!» I didn’t come in for a new style. This kind of experience is what made me stay away from stylists in the first place. I wasn’t expecting this from Suki’s.
I just found a review on June — yes, same thing! I also did ask if this stylist was good with long hair when I called for an appointment and she did take a long time to do my hair which I’d thought initially was a good thing (being precise, etc) but maybe it’s from inexperience.

My family and I went next door to that sushi place for a quick lunch, and upon walking out, my aunt suggested this place. Cris at the front was suuuper nice and suggested Lan for a color, and Simon for a cut. I just thought I was going to eat with my family and that’s it, not book a major hair appt afterward!
I almost had a heart attack with the price quotes. Eh, I guess I just have to brush it off because (1) my dad paid for it lol and (2) hair is just one of those things where «you get what you pay for.»
My hair is naturally dark brown/​black, and I’ve been gradually trying to lighten the base and get highlights. Lan did a mini-​consultation to go over what was real color on my head and what wasn’t, and then off we went! Brownie points: I was recuperating from a really bad headache/​migraine, so thank you Lan for letting me fall asleep and essentially knock out while you were working on my head.
After that, in my sleepiness/​grogginess, I went over to Simon to get my hair done. Before I knew it, I had a beautiful and shiny A-​line bob. It looked so good, I thought I had a wig.
Lan checked back on me and really liked how it came out too. The color looks good, but definitely didn’t look «Asian blonde.» (Hey, if you’re one of those Asians that bleaches your hair and is offended by this, YOU SHOULD BE. Your hair turns out orange, not blonde, tis fug, and you make us all look bad. Shame on you).
Price for an amazing cut, all over color & highlights, and a protein treatment: $ 300
But damn, I look good.
