Pure bad even though it’s run by Thai family. how disappointing. The food is sooo greasy and the taste is not worth the price at all. On a small note, I found it rather unprofessional to always present the little daughter at the door.

Awesome as usual, Love the Green Currie with Chicken and the Thai Ice Tea. The Thai Ice Tea is a little sweet of if you ask for an extra spicy dish it is the Thai Ice Tea that will save you. :) And OMG they can make it HOT if you ask, WOWness! Of course you can ask it not to be too spicy, but if you can handle it hott, ask for here and you won’t be disappointed. Thanks Tangthai!!! Awesomeness!

Food here used to be great, don’t know if they are located at the quieter end of Robson and business has been bad, but lately it has been empty and their service and quality of food has gone to the sh! ts. Pad Thai is still great, noodles perfectly chewy and not mixed with ketchup like all the other bastardized pad thai’s out there. Just the perfect amount of tamarind in this dish. Everything else has gone to crap, hard undercooked rice for the last 3 – 4 times we’ve been, greasy curries, insipid salads, raw shrimp cakes, thai steak is a joke, almost beef jerky tough and when confronted about how bad the thai steak is, the restaurant owner advised us that we should not have ordered it in the first place as it is not good. WHYPUTITONTHEMENU if it is crap!!! I know running a business is tough, especially in the food biz and in Vancouver, but when sales are sh! tty you cannot compensate by letting your disappointment show through in horrible service and letting your kitchen unravel. It only drives the customers away! In response to Deo’s comments, I will give your establishment another try as I know the food here CANBEVERYVERYGOOD, no other thai restaurant even comes close to your caliber when you put out food like you used to! Will post an update after I visit again.

This is a very ordinary Thai restaurant in a city that offers so many better options. We ordered the following: Yam Nua — Beef Salad Red Curry Chicken Tofu Long Song — with spinach The salad was flavourful, but had way to many onions in it. Have had better. The Red Curry was more green yellowy in colour. Not sure where they went wrong. The most underwhelming dish was the Tofu. It was fairly dry with a ordinary peanut sauce. The service was very attentive and the room is nice looking with a convenient location. I think we will stick to other options in the hood.

Went in for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. Had spicy basil noodles, which were delicious, actually spicy, and at $ 7.95, a good deal. Service was also far better than I have come to expect from Thai places — I actually saw our server run when she realized we needed change. I’d eat there again, despite the slightly stuffy décor and the fact that the news was on the tv, with volume, throughout our visit. Wtf?

I have been here about 4 times now and have had good food everytime. The service is good and they have very yummy pad thai. I am only giving 3 stars because the one time I ordered take out the coconut rice was crunchy and not fully cooked. I called to tell them and they were sorry but no compensation was offered. I will return

A solo electric guitar player in a Thai restaurant? That’s kinda weird. It kinda felt like he was practicing for his other job as a guitarist in some local band, while people ate dinner. I mean, he was playing when we came in, and he had an amp set up on the little stage, but shortly after we were seated, the show was over and the next time I saw him he was heating up a baby bottle of milk… huh? I guess that band of his ain’t making too much money… I came here for dinner with the BF and a friend, and the place smelled real good when we came in, but I think I got the short end of the stick. Both of them got their dinners and were happily stuffing their faces to the point where I wondered if they would be done before I even got my dinner. When my dinner finally arrived, it didn’t really taste how I had imagined. I had ordered the«Tofu Long Song» which was spinach with peanut sauce(which was actually quite spicy) but the spinach was a bit too leafy and didn’t really taste like it had been cooked long enough, whereas the tofu was extra crunchy and felt like maybe it had been cooked a little too much. I had tried the BF’s Pad Thai and it was pretty decent, and I would have tried my friend’s dish if it didn’t have chicken in it(he seemed very happy with it) so I kinda felt ripped off that I had to wait the longest for the crappiest dish. I’ll give it another try and order something different next time, but what I really want to know is… does that guy with the guitar take any requests? And will I get kicked out if I get on stage to sing with him? Just askin!

This place was A-OK with a solid 3 star rating. We has sweet and sour tofu, prawn green curry, some chicken dish, and a pad thai which we asked for no chicken which sadly for me came with chicken. The server was convinced the Pad Thai would taste bad without chicken, and i tried to assure him it would be totally fine, in the end he won the battle because i couldn’t be bothered to make everyone suffer waiting for a new dish without it to come back. All the dishes were pretty tasty. The server also convinced us that 2 rices would not be enough for 4 people, so we ordered 4 like he said. In the end we ended up wasting 2 rices. Thanks again waiter! We ordered Sangaria, only to find out 20 minutes after we ordered it that they had none so he offered beer instead. I do think the server could have used a little help because the place was a little busy.

After browsing through some of the reviews, it looks like TangThai has been around for a little while, but their location at Denman & Robson is relatively new. I’m not too sure what the older place may have been like, but I was pleasantly surprise by my experience here. I picked up a deal on LivingSocial for TangThai so I figured it would be a good opportunity to give them a try. I was a bit worried since the Unilocal rating is quite low. But I think this worked to my advantage. I went into the restaurant with very low expectations. My wife and I went with another couple. When we walked in, we were greeted promptly and shown to our reserved table. The service was a bit slow, but not horrible. We ordered a duck dish, cashew chicken, a curry beef dish and one other that has slipped my mind. Overall, I was quite happy with the food. Someone wrote a review earlier indicating that Thida Thai on Davie is far better. I would have to agree that Thida Thai is one of my favorite thai places in the city. But I really don’t think TangThai was deserving of such low reviews. Although Thida Thai is a bit cheaper. Again, I’m not sure what the older location was like, but I found the current location pretty good. I was not blown away, but I was satisfied. I’d likely consider going back again… especially if I see another deal on LivingSocial or Groupon :)

Went there for dinner last month, just before the Fireworks so it was quite busy. The service was dismal, so maybe this is not a fair review but I consider this situation is a good«stress test» for a restaurant. One of our 2 dinners arrived fairly fast(about 10 – 15 minutes). However the other dish took almost 45 – 50 minutes and we had to remind them TWICE! They kept apologizing but this was just not acceptable! We had to go somewhere so the second dish turned into a «to-go». A decent place would have compted a patron with this kind of crappy service/mistake. Don’t know if I should blame the waitress or the kitchen. The Pad Thai was good, nothing to write home about. The Pad Thai«fried rice»(strange dish for a Thai resto – I thought) was so-so. The price & ambiance was decent. Maybe I’ll give them another chance next time I visit Vancouver to see if the service is better and try more interesting dishes… But with this kind of service, probably NOT.

While the interior décor is nice and the service is ok, the food is below par. They don’t know how to handle their meat. Both the beef and the chicken we had were all thinly sliced yet very tough and dry. The taste is on the salty and sweet side. The red curry is not red?!? and taste more peanutty than curry-like. The portion is also on the small side for the price. WILLNOTBERETURNING to this place for Thai food. Go to Banana Leaf on Denman instead. Much better food and selections. I don’t see this place to be around for too long. The business is very slow on weekdays as I shop at the Safeway across the street almost daily for the last 3 months.

Busy night Wednesday downtown so my friends and I decided to try some Thai food here. Very nice atmosphere, service was only ok, waitress didn’t confirm orders in case she wrote it wrong which she did make a mistake on the wine. White instead of Red. Food was just ok. Nothing special, had the red curry chicken, spring rolls and Tom Yam Kai. Chicken is really bland, too much bamboo shoots in the dish, but the curry itself was good. Spring rolls have no taste, mostly batter so you drown it in sauce. Soup was really good, but again the chicken in it was just bland. Very safe food, I go Thai for the spices, but this place plays it too safe for its patrons, you might have to request for extra spicy or go somewhere else for something more authentic. Probably would not try again. There’s better Thai places out there.

Go to Thida Thai on davie. They want customers and respect patrons. Lazy Sunday, and I crave red curry. Naturally I get get some take out to retreat back to my place. I previously wrote a nice review, but after my last few experiences I change my mind. The past three times coming in I have been met with extremely rude service. Maybe they don’t want my patronage? So I will give them what they want… I am going to Thida Thai on Davie from now on. The waitress wouldn’t look me in the eyes and acted like I was inconveniencing her by coming in. This isn’t the first time. It’s really too bad, they have so much potential to be good. Unfortunately they are held back by their staff. I would’ve fired this girl on the spot. I will never be going back, third strike in a row.

A few nights ago a friend and I stopped in there for dinner. We were seated as soon as we stepped in by a very polite hostess and water was poured. There were maybe 1 or 2 other tables of patrons that night and there was a guy singing at the front. Our waitress was quite nice, but also quite slow. We waited about 10 mins for her to ask for our drinks. They did arrive a little quicker though. We also waited a bit for her to ask for our dinner requests as well, but then the food arrived quite quickly. The food itself was fantastic! We ordered the chicken satay to start. Followed by the a chicken dish I can’t remember the name(it had beans in it and was quite spicy) and the sweet & sour pork. Both dishes were great! I especially loved the sweet & sour pork. Definitely a must order. All around the only reason for the mark off was the slowness of service. Other than that, it’s a great atmosphere & great food!

Tangthai: A good Thai restaurant that provides a tasty meal with wowing your socks off. Standing across from Tangthai at the Safeway, seven of us surveyed the restaurant landscape in front of us, Mediterranean, Thai, Korean, Japanese Ramen… and we opted for Tangthai! We were seated right inside the front door at smallish tables squeezed together. The staff were so eager to get seating set-up that once we were seated, we had to get our own menus. But that was okay, we’re pretty easy going. A hostess tells us about the specials, she is of Thai decent(or at least speaks Thai, I can tell by her accent) so it was tricky to understand what she said. We had her repeat the specials and then were ready to order. The waitress took our orders, working her way around the table and then promptly skipped me. She went straight to the register and started entering the orders. We called her back over, and again she overlooked me and went to the last person to order. Bizarre. It was like I wasn’t even there. She realized her mistake and was embarrassed. I place my order and we were on our way. The Thai Iced Teas trickled out, one here, one there, slowly and eventually we got all the drinks we ordered. The appetizers came, again, one here and one there. The«Salad Rolls arrived and they looked okay, though they were a «looser» than I have ever had. Usually«Salad Rolls»(cold spring rolls of the non-fried variety) are tightly wrapped with noodles, veggies, and shrimp, these were not plump and fell apart quite easily. They tasted good, though the peanut sauce was the oddest I have ever had(gelatinous instead of creamy like it usually is). My friends egg rolls were good and very, very hot(temperature). I ordered a simple green curry that arrived last(timing of food delivery seems to be a theme here). But that was okay, the dish was quite good. It has been so long since I have had green curry, this was a good batch. Very good in fact, one that reminded me of when I first had green thai curry with my host family in Chiang Mai in 1993. That aroma and flavor took me back! I got the me medium(2 of 3 stars) and probably should have gone to 3, just for authenticity. All the dishes were well received and everyone seemed happy with their selections. Oh, and the semi-live music was nice… there was guy playing guitar to music being played on a computer. Interesting. Hats off to Tangthai for having wireless«at your table» credit card processing machines that allow you to pay and complete your transaction with credit card in hand. They are pretty slick and the coolest innovation I have seen in restaurant payments.

Had an absolutely disappointing experience taking out of Tangthai today. I always find that the quality of a Thai restaurant can be measured in their Pad Thai. Coconut curries are hard to mess up and well, rice dishes are usually decent but rarely outstanding. On the other hand, it is hard to get a decent Pad Thai unless you have actually tasted the dish in its native form. The pad thai with shrimp was disgustingly salty and tasted of soy sauce. The taste was so overpowering that tamarind, sugar, and peanut tastes were negligible by comparison. The texture was needlessly greasy.

In Vancouver for the Olympics, I walked down Robson in search of good Asian food(Thai, Japanese, Korean, whatever). Somehow I decided to go to Tangthai, perhaps because of their lunch special menu posted outside. The restaurant had an odd chemical smell, which I assume is not a constant thing. Nonetheless, it made being inside pretty unappetizing. I ordered the Rad Nah with chicken, a dish I’d never seen before despite eating at dozens of Thai restaurants. It came out quickly, but the flavor was pretty disappointing. It didn’t have the rich flavors of typical Thai dishes(lemongrass, curry, basil), but instead reminded me more of mild, sauce-heavy Chinese food, of which I’m not the biggest fan. Perhaps other dishes were better, but my experience was not great.

This restaurant opened last Friday and I’ve been anxious to try it. While the food was excellent, the service was all you’d expect from a freshly opened, still-working-out-the-kinks, restaurant. If the service can be improved, I would likely upgrade it to four stars. We arrived around 6:30pm and found the restaurant about half full(the upstairs dining room is currently closed). The hostess seated us promptly but then we looked around and noticed she was the only service person. She did an excellent job given the number of tables and the steady stream of patrons coming through the doors. She was apologetic though and did her best. Sadly, we did witness two tables abruptly leave before ordering. I overheard another table complaining about the slow service. The food arrived hot, flavorful, and a little better than I expected. Our pad thai(in contemporary sauce) was lightly tangy and perfectly cooked. Sometimes the rice noodles can be gloppy, but not here. The beef curry was spicy, thick, creamy and rich. The only downside to the curry were the potatoes which were so overcooked they bordered on mashed potatoes. I would recommend it to friends but suggest waiting a couple weeks until it’s worked out the service issues. Prices for dinner range from $ 12 – 16 per dish, but the portions are generous.

Tried the lunch fare and was very pleasantly surprised. The cavernous space threw me off at first, but the food definitely helped change my initial impression. The red curry chicken was rich, spicy and very flavorful, as was the sliced pork in a tangy vegetable mix. The pad thai and the tom yam goong were pretty good as well(the pad thai looked more like pad see-iw from what I’ve seen before, but eh). The server was very nice and kept her service quick and to the point, and the owner, Deo, came over to chat with us for a bit and was friendly and welcoming, both of which I’ll admit helped pushed the rating up from a 3.5 to a full 4. Lunch here is cheap but the evening menu’s more of a $$ buy-in. I’ll have to check this place out for dinner soon and see how that goes.
