Tarts Bakery

I have been to Tarts so many times and I still love their sweet tarts. I have tried many of the savoury ones but I am not a fan of them.
I never stay in the shop to eat my tarts but I also think that their seatings do not look very comfortable.
The reason why I give them a 3 despite their amazing tarts is because of the lady working there (I am guessing the owner). She does not seem to be happy to be there or when I bought anything from there. She is almost unwelcoming and as one of the frequent customers it sort of discouraged me.

Are the tarts good? Hmmmmm if you get the flavor your taste bud likes, then yes.
I had their soup/​salad and tart set several times, and I’ve tried different flavors. My most favorite was the apple tart which was seasonal and only had it in winter. They usually heat up your tarts and ooooooohhhh that apple tart was good. The fruit was fresh, it wasn’t too sweet just right, and the crust was nice and buttery crisp.
Since then I came back and tried cheese custard, lemon, and chocolate, but they didn’t quite make my face melt in pleasure like the apple tart. I like lemon flavor but the constant sweet and sour taste made my tongue numb, so this probably would have been better in a smaller tartlet size.
My suggestion is to go for the seasonal tart, if possible with a fruit topping because those are generally good. Others are good too, but they’re available all the time as tartlets too.
I am disappointed by the lack of excited taste buds since my first tarts, but I have enjoyed the latter ones too, so I’ll come back from time to time to try out others.
As many have mentioned there is no bathrooms here. So if you need to head out, then go over to the Chapters across the street. There’s one next to Starbucks on the first floor, and more on the second floor. Just be sure not to get distracted by the books there.

Got a bunch of tarts as favours for my wedding and they were great! Super yummy and the owners were so great and helpful.

A very sweet girl named Charlotte just hand delivered a three pack sample of tarts from this bakery. I am impressed that she said she doesn’t work there but wants to support her friend’s new business. She was all dressed up and looked very sunny and rosy and cute.
I am not a sweets person but I tried the lemon tart first, then the raspberry and butter pecan followed immediately after because they were so good. Super light pastry crust. I don’t usually like pie crust but this was totally different and the real deal — super airy and light. I will definitely go there for lunch soon!

I passed Tarts Bakery when I was looking for a quick bite on my way to work, and decided I’d give it a try. The décor looked really cute, and the place looked like it had potential.
I got a savory tart with egg, cheese and ham. It was really greasy — very disappointing. There was nothing special about the flavor, either.
The girl running the shop could have had a little more enthusiasm for the tarts, and was very awkward when ringing through my order. It also bothered me a lot that they didn’t have a washroom for customers, even though it was a sit down place.
Maybe this place would okay if you wanted sweet tarts to go — but I probably won’t be returning here.

I’ve heard a lot about this place from other reviews. My best friend and I had some open face tarts to share. The tarts themselves were awesome, flavorful and flaky. The soup to me tasted like something out of a can but still good. They carried cranberry gingerale which was cool.
What kinda angered me is that they don’t have a public washroom for customers even though they have table and chairs to sit and have lunch/​late snack. As far as I’ve been told isn’t it illegal to not have a bathroom available to the public, especially if you’re offering space to sit and eat? The excuse that I was given to me was «there’s just not enough space.» That is BS as I’ve been to Chinese restaurants/​cafes that are smaller that have a small/​cramped public bathroom.
I had to go all the way to Blenz across the street who had pitty when I explained to the them the story. I felt bad that I had to leave my best friend for 5 minutes to find a bathroom anywhere on W. Broadway. By the time I came back my cranberry apple pie was barely warm.
Prices are decent for what they are and other than the bathroom thing, the lady serving me was decent.
Thew décor could use a little more work to make it more inviting. Or maybe that is the point to not make it too inviting, otherwise they will have to offer their bathroom to you.

Apparently this is the only spot in Vancouver specializing exclusively in tarts. Who knew?!
THE FOOD
There was a nice selection of both savoury and sweet. It all looked tempting, but we finally decided on the feta with sundried tomato, chocolate mousse, and Meyer lemon. My mom loves a traditional quiche so she really enjoyed the Black Forest ham n cheese. When I bit into the flaky, buttery crust, I thought, «THIS is what tarts are supposed to taste like!»
THE PRICE
I think $ 7.95 is very reasonable for the lunch special of a tart plus that day’s salad or soup. And $ 4 for 3 mini tartlets is a real steal — honestly, I don’t know how they can afford to offer handmade pastries at that price. You really can’t compare them to cupcakes which are baked by the dozens. We’re talking individually formed tarts made with real butter!
THE AMBIENCE
This sunshine filled, south facing shop is cozy and clean. Come to think of it, being so tiny, I’m not sure how they’d accommodate a group; each of the four tables is perfect for two people.
THE SERVICE
We were given attentive, friendly service — and no wonder, since it was one of the two sisters who started the place! I so admire them for taking the risk and following their dream.
THE VERDICT
Quality, quality, quality!

I was passing by today and this cheerful little bakery caught my eye. They specialize in, well. tarts. There were savoury and sweet ones available for around $ 7 if I remember correctly.
I decided to take one to go and heated it up in the toaster oven at home. It was 4 hours later and yep. still good. The tart/​crust was flaky and buttery. The filling had a generous amount of chicken with gravy, corn and carrots.
I’ll go back for some more, but this time I’ll make sure to buy a few.

It’s a very sweet little shop. The tarts are equally dainty and nice.
Because it is relatively pricey, I wouldn’t drop it a visit regularly, but I had a nice enough experience that one time I did try it.

This cute little dessert shop sells both sweet and savory tarts. I finally went in the other day and was not disappointed. To my surprise, it was a bright, cheery and a little nostalgic shop which sells miniature tartlets to medium tarts suitable for sharing. I tried the butter tart which melted in my mouth. However, it was the Meyer lemon tart that caught my attention. Everything is handmade and reminds me of desserts from my childhood. Good thing my waistline that I do not live close by. Otherwise, I will be frequenting this shop daily for my sweet fix.

The tarts are separated by sweet and savory. Sweet: classic butter tartlet, raspberry macaroon tartlet, chocolate mouse tartlet, Meyer lemon tartlet, pecan butter tartlet, and raspberry cheesecake tart. Savory: jalapeño popper tartlet; portobello mushroom tartlet; feta, caramelized onion, and sun dried tomato tartlet. My friend preferred the savory ones, as she found their flavours unique to the tart world. Where as the sweet ones were all too familiar. I was a little disappointed that they didn’t have the whipped cream or shredded chocolate, like their picture on the poster in the window had lead me to believe.
My suggestion to the «tartlets» running the show at «Tarts» is to come up with exciting flavours and tarts that are decorated as unique as their store’s concept. Tarts are available at numerous grocery stores, and you can make your own from pre made frozen shells. What will bring guests back is something they cannot do, never thought of, and want to take a picture of. A rainbow tart for pride. A tart topped with edible wild flowers. Tarts crafted to look like something other that how it should taste. Not saying there is anything wrong with their current selection, but thinking outside the box will earn additional clients who have seen the pictures on social media and have heard all the rave reviews, and now want to experience the phenom themselves.
Would I come back? — Yes. But only with the need for a quick treat for a specific event or occasion. I would not immediately think of satisfying my sweet tooth with a tart; when ice creams, cheesecakes, and chocolate shops surround the area.
Would I recommend it? — Yes. This is the first shop I have come across that specialize in this dessert. I just wish they had a larger, more fun, and more colourful array of tarts to choose from. That all the showcase are for tarts, and the to go boxes can find a place behind the counter.
The best bakeries are the ones you walk into and immediately want to take a picture of their showcase, because it looks so good. You don’t quite get that here. Don’t deny your cravings.

I’ve had two tarts here: pumpkin and fruit with vanilla bean custard. The latter had cinnamon sprinkled fruit on top of the custard, and I highly recommend you choose it if you see it. The pumpkin was fine, but not a flavour i crave much. It’s not a big place and the seating could be more appealing, but the location is easy to get to, and it’s pretty easy to run in there before your next bus comes!
I agree with the other reviewer that mentioned the price is a barrier… the large tarts are apx. the cost of two cupcakes just a bus ride away and also more than the cheesecake place down the street. If they could get the price point down a bit, I think people would be more tempted to grab one en route or buy multiples (I hate having to pick one, and yeah I’ll eat two and I don’t care who knows it! ha!), which would allow them move through more product per hour and offer greater variety. That said, hope they do well — seems like nice people running it and it’s great to have more food options in this area.

I figured that once more photos appeared, this place might piqué people’s interest. I had received a «free tartlet card» which was also a great excuse for a visit. It’s a cute little shop, albeit, a bit on the «cold» atmosphere side, and it’s a nice alternative to macarons, cupcakes and the like.
They offered teeny-​tiny, flaky, little samples that didn’t really give me an idea about the actual tarts; they were quite small and didn’t provide any of the flavours I was seeking, but at least they gave me a bit of an idea about the pastry. I found the pastry straw samples a bit strange as they were more like crumbly pastry dregs, but maybe that’s your thing?
I tried the feta red pepper tart which was quite good and I highly recommend heating it up. This one I opted to take away, and I was glad that I did. I did notice a toaster oven there, so I’m guessing if you opt to stay that they’ll do it for you.
Also tried a mini raspberry which I ate on the spot. It offered a nice, flaky pastry but less filling than I’d hoped for and did not seem as fresh as I’d liked. Still, I ate it quite quickly and in two little bites and it was good. I am sure that this one would have tasted better heated, too.
The chocolate ones looked divine but were too big for a «tiny» treat, so perhaps I’ll return again to try another. And I purchased a tiny butter tart and was told that it was equally as good. (I do have some willpower.)
I appreciate that they don’t want to make too many and I would certainly return when craving a savoury or sweet, but it is not what I’d call a destination place. Still, it’s in a great location, so I think they’ll be ok. They’ll have to change the wording on their lovely retro «only one in Vancouver» signage if another shop suddenly appears, however.
$ 13 for one big tart ($ 9 with tax) and two minis ($ 2 each) which seemed a bit pricy, but expected.
3.5 stars.
*They offer a $ 1 coffee or tea with check-​in. I suggest that they offer a free mini instead. Surely that would draw more people, and they could serve it in lieu of itty bitty samples. *

Only 1 review for this awesome place?! When you’re a sweet person like me, this & other good stuff like cupcakes, macarons, or heck, any bakery for that matter, is already worth another star lol.
Love the lemon & strawberry ones, they’re made fresh, great crust & only made to sell: not to store overnight & sell the next day. So when they’re gone at 2pm, that’s it!
Good thing parking sucks here otherwise I’d come here too much lol.

Decorative packaging of 4 tarts for $ 25 in a box, but mind you, these are big tarts, not those egg tarts lol. You’re getting quality here, not value lol.

I’ve just moved in Vancouver and discovered this place while shopping on Broadway. It’s a small but cosy bakery just across the street from Chapters at Granville, nicely decorated and with a couple of tables and chairs to enjoy your treat with a cup of coffee.
The original thing is that they sell exclusively tarts. The choice is surprisingly large, though, since they make both sweet and savoury tarts.
I tried the ham and cheese and my boyfriend, who’s a vegetarian, had the feta, onions and sundried tomatoes tart. Both were delicious and fresh, and although we thought they looked kind of small, we were full once we were finished!
We also tasted the sweet tarts: I didn’t know the classic Canadian butter tart, but I am a fan of their recipe! The fruit one is also very good, and if you like chocolate (who doesn’t?), they make a tart filled with chocolate mousse.
Apparently, they make everything themselves (the pastry and the filling) and in small quantities. That’s why they don’t have always the same tarts and that also explains the prices, somewhat higher than what you would find in franchise stores.

Randomly walked by this place and realized this location is now a Tart bakery ! (there used to be a hat shop in this location). A bakery is a much better fit with the surrounding shops and this area really needed some sweets.
The tarts were priced at $ 7 and there was a selection of sweet and savory tarts. I got to sample two of them and they were deeeelicious ! They make the crust themselves and the crust just kind of melts in your mouth !
They also serve tea and coffee here and there is some space to sit and eat. Definitely worth a try if you’re in the area. If they lowered the price a little (to $ 5 or less) I’m sure they would rake in even more business !

Like the sidewalks of Paris, this One Of A Kind bakery is like nothing else. I wasn’t sure how I’d enjoy the tarts since I’m not a pie lover but the crust is sooo flakey like a croissant and the fillings are to die for!!! I’ve tried the Butter Tart, Pecan Tart & the Raspberry Macaroon and they took my taste buds to heaven hahahah
The next time I stop by I’m hoping to try the Cheddar & Bacon savoury Tart & Chocolate Mousse Tart!
