As the demand for authentic Thai cuisine grew in Vancouver, so did our reputation for providing top quality Thai food, with fast and friendly service at very affordable prices.

Our Thai Chefs have been serving up great food, for a great price for over 15 years now.

In the 1980’s, in a little fishing village on the Thai island of Goh Samed, Papa pulls out his catch of the day. Mama simmers a blend of freshly squeezed coconut milk and fresh chili paste blended from spicy green chilies, lemon grass and fragrant sprigs of Thai Sweet Basil. A steamy scoop of Thai Jasmine rice is served on each plate and «gin khao» is pronounced — the Thai equivialent of «Let’s eat!».

After living a year lviing in this Tropical paradise, Dale Dubberley, the founder of Thai Away dreamed of bringing this amazing culinary experience back to Canada. In 1997, she opened the first Thai Away Home take-out restaurant in Vancouver, Canada with three Thai women and is really proud to work with all of her wonderful staff..

Stumbled upon this place at random, the big colorful sign and a grumbling stomach drew me in. Lunch combo was under 8 dollars and received a huge portion of shrimp pad Thai and a green salad, can’t beat that deal! Definitely not a fancy or authentic Thai meal but it was fast and filling! Staff was very kind and the service was amazing but there is limited seating and no liquor license.

Have they changed management? We ordered some food yesterday as we loved the food there, it was terrible, they used the same sauce for our beef and seafood dish and it was really bad! What a disappointment! it“s NOT good anymore!

Likes: Delicious food. Big fan of the red curry and pad thai. Brown rice option. Good portion sizes. One of my favorite places for pick up. Comfortable outdoor seating. Fast and friendly service.
Dislikes: Despite the nice exterior seating, the interior is very inhospitable, with an oddly red theme and very uncomfortable featuring flimsy, space-saving, high stools and tables, not good if you have poor leg circulation or you don’t have a tiny butt. I’ve never sat inside except to wait for my food and even then it was uncomfortable.

Lower prices than most. Fast service. Fast food — thai mcdonaldds. But quality of pad thai with green salad lacking in the number of ingredients and amount.
1. Green salad — literally salad leaves with light dressing. Where are the tomatoes, cukes, whole carrots etc. Have we lost our minds to pay $ 7.69 for pad thai and salad plus tax and tip??? its like they are laughing at us when they get our order and think. haha…they don’t even say anyting and we can give them even one lettuce leaf and still will be no problem
2. Pad thai — ketchup style, not authentic but not salty. Taste is tolerable to a point. 2 prawns! really? it usually 3 – 4 everywhere else. Small amount (less than half of plate for lunch special) and only a few peanuts crushed with bean sprouts and slivered carrots… only noodles basically. Lots of deep fried tofu.
Missing: vegetables in the salad. Scallions, lime wedge, garlic, cabbage, veggies, cilantro. Not spicy… should ask and see what customer wants. Lacking in flavor other than sugar and ketchup.
Authentic (NOPE!): tamarind, palm sugar, fish sauce all missing.
I will admit that the curry and chef special with mixed veggies looked great bc of large amount of veggies.
Cups smell like egg — wash in cold water
Seating is good inside and outside. I would recommend they turn off their fans inside bc its blowing your hair and food away literally.

Pretty tasteless meal.

If you end up here make sure you checkin on Unilocal to get your meal cheaper because the regular price REALLY isn’t worth it.

I love this place. The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is the early closing time and lack of liquor license.
Food is awesome. Recommend for pick-up and/or takeout.
Best Pad Thai in the city if you ask me!!!

This is one of my go-to places for quick Thai in the Broadway area.
Their curries are really good. I’ve ordered the yellow curry and red curry the most respectively. More often than not the potatoes and pumpkins are not quite cooked enough — they’re too hard and chewy. I suppose I’ve gotten used to it in time.
I had the Pad Thai yesterday for the first time and did not like it at all. It lacked flavour and heat. My advice would be to stick to the curries.
Counter stuff are always friendly and the food never takes more than 10 minutes to come out. There’s a water dispenser and cups for customers to help themselves as well as a variety of curry packages, sauces and desserts that you can buy to go. I’ve had good luck with the packages as well — just warm up on the stovetop, add some potatoes and protein and you’ve got an easy meal.
Lunch specials are a good deal at $ 8 – 10 and curries for dinner (excluding rice) are in the $ 10-$ 12 range. Note they do offer a discount if you show them you Unilocal — I received 10% off.

I have had the pad Thai and the coconut lime veggies. So good. I didn’t know just how good until I ordered from Mali Thai today. Awful. Couldn’t eat it and wished I had just stuck with what I knew.

I had it delivered from orderit. Ca. Delivery was fast which was nice. The food looked nice and warm. I ordered Pad Thai and Green Curry. The pad thai had no flavour. I had to add spices. And tasted like pasta. I don’t know if the noodles were really thai noodles or not since they looked like exactly like pasta. The green Curry had taste of green Curry but it was only chicken and egg plant I’m it. Nothing else.

There is nothing I hate more than having to call a take out order in (phone phobia!), so when I discovered Thai Away Home was on
AND they offered free delivery AND they just so happened to be running a 20% off promo for cyber Monday I was sold!
I ordered the wonton prawns, ginger beef, chicken Thai fried rice, and black pepper garlic prawns. Food arrived in under an hour and was nice and hot. On first look I was impressed that there were a lot of fresh veggies accompanying the dishes — too often I find restaurants skimp on the veg. While the ingredients tasted of a reasonably good quality, I was disappointed by the lack of general flavor and/or spice in the food. Everything ended up tasting very bland. Perhaps this is one of those situations where you have to specifically ask them to add spice to your order?
Anyways, if you can’t handle the heat this probably is a good option for you. Due to the lack of flavor/spice I likely will not be ordering again, which is too bad because I really feel that they delivered some of the best looking takeout I have encountered in this city.

Thai Away is a good standard to judge other Thai food by.
It’s not blow you away amazing, but it’s a tried and true go-to for me.
I haven’t eaten everything on the menu, but i’ve had all variations of their curries.
My usual choices are the red and the yellow curries.
The red has pumpkin in it, which actually is kind of nice, texture-wise.
The yellow curry is a typical yellow curry with shallots and potato. I find all of the curry sauces/bases to be well balanced with flavor and heat. I could actually eat the curries with rice alone and no ingredients.
Their spring rolls are decent too. Not too greasy.
My only gripe with this place is with the yellow curry. Sometimes the potato in it is a little on the firmer side. It could be due to how busy the place is at peak periods.
I’ve never been disappointed with Thai Away. The food is always very consistent from visit to visit. The staff is always friendly and you never have to wait long for your order whether it’s to eat-in or take-out.

Tried the yellow curry coconut milk Thai lunch special (with chicken), and it was excellent. Not too strong, but very flavorful. The portions were fine for lunch, but for dinner I think it would need to be bigger (and probably is).
Table next to me ordered Pad Thai, and the portions were big. They seemed happy with the food too.
Staff were friendly, and they even deliver the food to your table. Nice!
There’s a lot of restaurants along this stretch of Cambie, and competition is high. This place has won heaps of awards, so if you like Thai food, it’s a pretty safe bet.

My favourite Thai place! I even briefly worked here in high school and can *still* eat the food!
I love the pad thai (although the prawns have gotten smaller and smaller over the years); the swimming rama with tofu has a mild spice to it that isn’t too hot for my pathetic taste buds; the spring rolls come with the perfect amount of dipping sauce; try the spinach or broccoli in garlic sauce and get half broccoli and half spinach; the chicken with cashews is great with a side of rice.
The service is quick, the food is good, and the portions & prices are right.
Now I’m hungry for Thai.

For the value, taste, authenticity and casual ambience, TAH is a good alternative instead of going to DT or U&I down the street, which is more of a sit-down restaurant and over-priced as well. Depends if it’s a formal date too lol.
Bonus here is they actually have a nice patio with 3 or 4 tables, fantastic for the eye candy action at this time of year.
Easy to recommend.
They deliver.

It’s located on Cambie. Thai Away Home is a small store with a walk-up food counter and café bar seating. It’s definitely not a comfortable environment, but it’s convenient and fast.
We were in rush and tried to find something easy and quick to bite. I got a pad thai on lunch special. It was a bit sweet for me and only able to find 2 shrimps on the dish. My hubby got chicken yellow curry with rice, it’s blend and Not authentic!
I would say it should consider as Thai fast food and $ 8 lunch dish with such portion should be no question ask.

It’s Friday night and I’ve been asked to get take away to feed three adults and two picky toddlers. My food allergies lead me to a slightly panicked place. After cross comparing three different menus, I finally realised that Thai Away Home actually lists Gluten Friendly (as close to GF as you get) on their web menu! Huzzah! Now I just need to avoid the tofu and I’m good.
So I called at 5PM to order and the pick up was ready 10 minutes later when I got there. Although sadly, I looked in the dessert fridge and no mango sticky rice (which I hadn’t realised I’d wanted until then!). Got the food home and we had more than enough with Pad Thai (not sure how it was as it was toddler food and had gluten), Green Curry with chicken (Awesome), Yellow curry with chicken (okay), Thai noodle salad (I was strangely addicted to it and ate most of it), and swimming rama with chicken (mmm), One of the toddlers tossed pad thai into the swimming rama so I didn’t get to eat much of it, which was a bummer. Overall, great service, solid food, good price, great health and allergy disclosure, and good food.
