The Fountainhead Pub

The food was good but not the most amazing brunch food I have had but I do recommend checking this place out. It has a great vibe and good drinks!

The food is excellent! I ordered the poutine breakfast! It was delicious and cheesy with potatoes and bell peppers! A traditional Canadian breakfast that was well executed and tasty! The service was great, and overall very friendly! Definitely recommend!

I love the Fountainhead. It’s just a classic, go-​to bar in the West End. They are always playing the games and you can usually get a seat (or in many cases, join a table!). Want to play pool or darts, get your butt over to the Fountainhead. Want to go to a patio but not have it super pretentious? FAOUNTAINHEAD. The boss is always around. There service is ALWAYS good. And it’s just a great place to meet up with your friends! I love the prices and have never had a bad food experience! It’s my place on Davie!

After 15+ years, the Fountainhead is more than just a local «institution» (in the best sense of the word); it’s a part of the fabric of the community. Why? A few reasons:
1) Scottie runs a tight, firm-​but-​fair ship — he has a fantastic team but he gives them the tether to be themselves and provide personal, warm, but never pretentious or smug, service and a warm welcome. Simply put, Scottie CARES.
2) Consistency: the menu can come and go, the décor and art on display can morph and evolve, and even the clientele can ebb and flow, but behind all that lies a clear commitment and passion to make the Fountainhead a community gathering place, for regulars, locals, and first-​timers and visitors alike. Somehow there’s always a fun-​but-​not-​crazy vibe there, and you feel like you fit in, without having to try. Kudos.
3) Food is terrific — there tonight and my friends and I all had different meals ordered, and not only were they delicious, they arrived at the table looking like they were ready for a marketing photo shoot — beautifully laid out like something off the «too-​good-​to-​be-​true» menu pictures you sometimes see elsewhere, only to be let down when it actually arrives. Not here. The kitchen cares about turning out good, consistent fare that satisfies and impresses. Another home run tonight.
4) Service — over the years, the team has been varied and unique, but somehow they all play together and put their focus on genuine service and attentiveness, without being «too present» OR «too absent» — a fine line to play, especially at a pub, but well played by the staff, many times over and over. (see #2 above re: consistency)
5) Care — tonight we had a good visit with a couple friends — low-​key night with good food and drink, but unfortunately a table adjacent had tied one on a little too much (whether at the Fountainhead or from previous venues or ‘warm-​up’ at home) and became increasingly loud and belligerent, countering the normally jovial-​but-​positive atmosphere. We weren’t the only ones who noticed, but when we finally decided to advise our server, and Scottie the Manager, that we could no longer hear each other due to the din from just a handful of people, they professionally and subtly-​but-​firmly stepped in to help the patrons move along their way and restore some peace. While we didn’t feel the pub was at all at fault (indeed they helped rectify the situation), and we didn’t ask for them to «do something» per se, the Manager provided a discount on our bill in appreciation of our patience. Wow.
And all we came for was the promise of a good meal, a great atmosphere and some quenching refreshments — which were delivered, as per usual — but we got more. Scottie: a round of drinks — and applause — to you and your team — including the kitchen and, perhaps most importantly, the ‘dish pig’ (I’ve been there). Thank you for another great evening at the Fountainhead.

We were at the Fountainhead Pub for their 16^th Anniversary Party and we had a great time!
A group of 4 or 5 of us usually go to the Fountainhead on Tuesday nights after work for a couple of beers and the beer choice s are good, the meatloaf is excellent and the staff are THE BEST! I’m really glad that we have this pub as our «local» and recommend it for locals and tourists.

Great place to play pool on a cold rainy day. I love the Freddie Mercury photo on the north wall. We came to Vancouver for a short visit after attending a wedding in Seattle. We had no plan what so ever. The Fountainhead is a great spot to enjoy the afternoon. Torri the bar tender is super nice (as Canadians are known to be). Our drinks were delish and kicked our butts.

I’ve been here a few times before and always had a splendid time. This occasion was no different, but with the addition of lots of FOOOOD, and somehow we ended up ordering a bunch of healthy options, which I am always happy to savour!
The Fountainhead has a great lively, community feel to it. There are so many regulars hanging around, playing pool or just taking shots before going to celebs across the street (Oh, to be young again). This pub is active in the community and constantly supports different causes. You might remember them dumping Stoli on the ground for LGBT rights. Statements are important. It’s hard to see anyone standing up for anything these days. The atmosphere is layback and super chill. They also have a really cool heated patio. To be honest, I was skeptical of this Watermelon BBQ Chicken Wings ($ 11), even though it just won an award from the from Georgia Straight. Because my religion, my one true god, my personal heaven on earth is a perfect, juicy, unaltered watermelon.
But, all my worries flew away when I tried these wings. This was tangy, crispy, with a slight lingering fresh watermelon aftertaste. It was really really good lol. I love that sourness, which made it less sweet than usual BBQ sauce. The sauce also made it have another dimension. I also ate the celery and carrot — they were fresh and crunchy. Good job!

I have to let you all know! this is not just a PUB this is a HOME!!!
The fountainhead was the second pub I entered into when i moved to vancouver and in order to understand how much i love this place– I really don’t remember the first one lol
This pub has an amazing atmosphere, Always welcoming you with a huge smile that makes you smile even more even if you came for a short drink after a shitty day!
I always sit at the bar so i can’t really share my experience at the tables but I am sure it would be just as amazing as it is sitting along the bar.
Scotty and his crew are great people to talk to. laugh with. and if needed poor your heart all over the bar! you will always get great advice AND more then that if they can they will even try to help you out in knowing other people or give you the right directions.

Best service we’ve ever had! Coming from Victoria, it was awesome to see the level of service and accommodation from Scotty and his team. He made room for our large group to sit together when more of our friends showed up, he obliged and got a beverage for a newcomer when they mistook his for waiting staff, and we saw him do so many other favours for countless other customers. Flawless service! So impressed.

Always a fun pub to meet friends — the staff make the place.
Scottie is the best manager and great bartender — always attentive and greeting regulars. We are always happy when we walk in and see that he is on duty.
We come back for the people that make it a great place to visit with our friends — by now we know all the staff — Chrissy, Dean, Jacob, Monique, Mike, Jesse, other Jesse and Chandler.
I am sure you will have a good time :)

So nice to have great service. Was a wet Vancouver day and we sat down had our drinks in seconds and are food in 6 mins from ordering. So great.

Loud, dark, and noisy sports bar atmosphere. Service was prompt and professional, but no more than absolutely nessecary. Had the chicken enchiladas, which were great. Price-​wise was excellent value.

This place was great! I stopped in here with colleagues and friends on my last night in Vancouver (this was my firs trip ever to Vancouver). We had attended a public health conference earlier that day and needed to unwind. The place wasn’t very busy, but we were greeted by a server and then by the manager of the pub. After having to wait awhile for service, he came over and apologized and then gave us some free food. We ordered a lot of drinks and other food as well. We all appreciated the experience and responsiveness of the staff and manager, and will make this a place we visit again in the future! Kudos to the manager for such a great job with the pub and professionalism.

We stopped by twice, once on a Saturday night when looking for a place to start galavanting through Davie Village, and once on a Monday night seeking a well-​crafted nightcap. The Fountainhead, dominated by tables and playing 80s music when we visited, is definitely best-​suited for the latter. Perched on one of the best people-​watching patios we’ve found, we enjoyed local beers and wines — a quality tap list, if not IPA-​centric. Our server Jesse was fantastic, and we’d definitely return to this as a place to converse and avoid the loud music of other nearby spots.

Was in town with friends for the World Cup. Headed to this place a few nights after dinner.
Bartenders were always great! Last night we were there Rikki served us! She was awesome. Fun and made our time awesome. They also gave us some free apps — which was super nice.
Pool table here as well which is fun! Good music. Clean!

Stumbled onto this great pub because it was walking distance from our hotel. Everyone in our party ordered something different, and everyone left here happy! I personally enjoyed the Fountainhead club sandwich with fries. Delicious! Great service and a fun atmosphere while watching the U.S.A./Sweden soccer match.

French fries and chicken fingers are delicious but the service is lackluster. We waited for 16 minutes to order and finally had to head to the bar to get drinks and food. Once we ordered the server at the bars handled the order but reluctantly.

Always a good time always welcome atmosphere and good food and drink specials. Great patio. A staple on Davie Street. Can’t come down to Davie street and not stop in for at least a drink

Dropped a star for awful service last night.
An extremely rude server (to the owners, the server who’s area was the patio last night) who was consistently condescending regarding the patio closing time (closes at 11pm — at 10.15 we’re being rushed and hurried through our orders and food).
This guy needs to get over himself.
I’m a long time patron and fan of the Fountainhead and this is the first time I’ve been made to feel like I’m an inconvenience.
