We were walking hungry around downtown and saw their big«$ 5.95» sign. We asked a couple guys who just came out. They said that it was pretty good«bar food». It was around 4pm and the place was almost empty except for a couple of guys at the bar counter. The gent at the bar greeted us and asked as to seat anywhere we liked. Our server came over shortly and handed us our menu. We asked for recommendations and what the food was like. She was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Take note that of the«moose» items contain anything from an actual moose. Would be nice if they were though. We ordered the jambalaya and a moose burger. The jambalaya came out pretty quick. I would assume that maybe because it was already pre-made with only some minor cooking/heating needed, plus the fact that there were no other customer has an other ahead of us. Nevertheless, it wasn’t bad. It was actually pretty good. Their marinara sauce was well seasoned with a mild kick from the chilli. Rice was properly cooked, especially the shrimp. It was served in a nice odd shaped bowl, filling about almost 2⁄3 of it. Serving size was not a lot but would be about ok for under $ 6 I guess. There two big pieces of shrimp and loads of chicken strips and chunks of chorizo. The moose burger was bigger than what I expected. It came with a good amount of fries and a serving of ketchup. The fries were crisp on the outside. Burger was juicy, had bits of sautéed onions, bacon(which was just regular bacon and was not crispy), fresh onion, tomatoes and lettuce. I would say that this would be way better choice than getting a fast food burger combo. If you don’t mind the bar/rocker atmosphere, their $ 5.95 + tax meals are worth a try.

I love the atmosphere in this place. Love going for a drink and chatting to the bar tenders. Really reasonable prices and great music.

This is one of my favorite places to take a beer and have some bar food. The amazing thing about here is the combination of a trashy place with the rock music atmosphere from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, it’s a good rocker place. Also, in the tv’s are showing the music videos from the songs that are playing, so is a good chance to learn about music and to actually watch the classics on their best years. The moose has every day specials on food, but I have to say that the $ 1 dollar burgers is just to open more the appetite, they are really tiny. The hot wings are delicious, maybe some of the best I had try, and well, if you are into tattoos all the waitress are a good example on how to look amazing with them. One tip: go for the draft beer offers!

The food is good, but it’s the atmosphere and staff that earn the extra star. I totally dig the Moose! :-)

I visited Moose for a short lunch break. Since I was here for myself I couldn’t order too much. But since every item was only $ 5.95 I got two dishes. Compared to its cheap price, the food quality and quantity were pretty decent. Their sandwiches and burgers are served in bread or tortilla wraps with fries, soup or greens. With an extra $ 1.50 you can substitute for caesar, beet salad or yam fries. It actually took a bit long to get my food during lunch hours although there weren’t so many people. For my first dish I got a Pulled Pork Wrap. The wrap had a decent amount of slow cooked pork shoulder with smokey BBQ sauce and a green apple-red cabbage slaw. The pulled pork actually tasted pretty good. It had enough meat inside, and the meat itself had a tasty BBQ flavour. However the meat wasn’t soft enough to be considered as pulled pork. The wrap itself wasn’t a really big size, but it could be a enough size for lunch, especially with fries. BBQ Back Rib is one of their main menus which consists of slow-cooked pork back ribs finished on the grill with smoky honey Jack Daniel’s BBQ sauce, and served with sauteed veggies and potato mash. You can add a half rack with an extra $ 3 if you want a larger portion. The rib didn’t have much meat and it was a bit dry. The sauce was too strong and overpowering so that couldn’t tell the quality of the meat. The sauteed veggies were cooked fine. The potato mash was a bit plain but good enough to balance out a strong BBQ flavour. Overall, the meal was satisfying for its cheap price, but not so good based solely on its quality. This place tends to be somewhat slow as the only one server spends most of his time chatting with other customers. Not saying it’s a bad thing as some people might enjoy it, but I had to be really patient to get my food and bill during my tight lunch hours. Please do yourself a favour and just stay away. At $ 5.95 per menu item and $ 4 shots, my friends and I really weren’t expecting much of anything at all. Just thought we would check this place out and have a head start on drinks for the night. OMG I was wrong. This place has gone even beneath my lowest standards. I’d rather have eaten at mcdonald’s. Seriously thought that even if the flavour profile was wrong, I might still be willing to try it. I expected like. jarred sauce that was close but not really there. if you know what I mean. Our waitress Madeline said she would let us know of something we ordered would suck. I asked her how the jambalaya was and she enthusiastically said it was really good. Dont listen to the servers. They really dont know anything or they arent telling the truth. It was. disgusting to say the least. Come here if you want tomato sauce on rice to pass for your«jambalaya», dry burgers or reheated bbq ribs with gummy mashed potatoes. Realistically out of the things we ordered, the ketchup and mayo that came w the fries were the best things we got. And who really wants to pay $ 6 for that? Drinks sucked too. The 4 of us ordered the same thing amongst ourselves and they all tasted different. even though we ordered THESAME drink. Servers and bartenders dont know what they’re doing. The food isn’t even good enough for a dog. I saw some homeless people walk by and had a moment where I wondered if they would appreciate having my dinner for me or not. Just stay the hell away.

This place may have the cheapest beer in town… because it was fairly busy on a Friday night but I may never know, weren’t here to drink. Two of us had to get counter seats. The host looked and acted more like another dude just hanging out. No service when we sat down, bar tenders and servers were pretty busy. Went to use the washroom, one was out of service, the other had a line-up, inside no more paper towel… exited and found some napkins in an open cupboard, took some and right after a waitress scolded «you shouldn’t be taking stuff from our …», «you’re out of paper towels in the washroom», «ok, but you shouldn’t be… repeat…» I’m talking to someone without much intelligence, communication skills or hospitality… but hey it’s a run down pub playing heavy metal…(am I not to stereotype?), anyway the whole venue operated in a similar fashion so I may well just not care. Ordered a ciabatta chicken sandwich– tasted like cooked chicken drunk in mayonnaise, sided with fries. Anyone can easily do better at home. Friend had chicken fingers sided with fries. The chicken fingers were actually hot, fluffy. Note: since I was starving the food may have tasted better than I’d usually perceive it. Music was loud heavy metal, usually isn’t my choice(though it’s not repulsive like country) I actually enjoyed the electric guitar tunes, it matched the dingy decors which in turn complimented the morbid lyrics so for a non-pub goer like me that was pretty interesting. 1star for good music 1star for busy dingy atmosphere 1star for edible fries and chicken –1 star for no service –1 star for no paper towel –1 star for out of service washroom –1 star for scolding a customer for taking what should be provided but missing =-1star but what da heck I’ll give it 1star just for kicks

Not bad, I liked the 25 cent chicken wings on a Tuesday night. I ordered the Maple Garlic and it was not bad. All meals are $ 5.95 each. The only thing I have to comment is that the music was way too loud and was blaring over everyone, so we were practically yelling to talk to each other. We went there around 11pm — midnight on a Tuesday night. I have to say I like the Warehouse better when I want to go get a $ 5 dinner.

Their Moose Burger and Creole Chicken were both stone cold and dry for some reason, despite taking around 20 minutes to make. I know it’s only $ 5.95, but the portion sizes are ridiculously tiny… better off going to Famous Warehouse down the street or grabbing a couple of slices at Romano’s. Server came once to take our order then she couldn’t be found again for the rest of the duration… the place was empty so I don’t know why there was such a lack of service. Won’t be coming back.

I see The Moose as a drinkers bar. That doesn’t mean you need to be an alcoholic to go there, but just to have an understanding of what you’re in for when you do go there. The Moose keeps it simple: Very cheap food, decent beer, good atmosphere, and lots of stadium rock. Sound good? Then it’s 4 stars. Sound awful? Then it’s a 2 at best. There’s a few places on Granville St that offer $ 5/$ 6 all food items(as The Moose does too), but this place has wins for atmosphere. Everyone in there is there to have a good time. Winner. Oh, and there’s 25c wings too. That’s healthy., right? Yes. Awesome.

The beer selection here is great! Plenty of local options which is exactly what I was looking for. The food was good. We didn’t try anything over unique, but the $ 1 sliders were definitely a good buy. The bartenders make this place. We planned only only having 1 beer and moving on, but once we got chatting we had such a great time that we ordered many more. This is a great spot!

So I struggle to write this because I really, at heart, want to love this place. My wife and I have probably been to this pub more than any other. But in the last 6 months things have really taken a nose-dive. We typically have gone on Canucks’ game nights, for context. Before: Service — All the servers were always ridiculously charming and nice, whether at a table or at the bar. Food — always good — simple — but good. Caesars were one of my favourite in the city — always garnished well. Atmosphere — Great atmosphere to watch the game. Metal in between periods and they’d do well at switching the sound back accordingly. They even allowed you to pick a puck with a player to win some beer if they scored. Great energy all the time. These days(including last night — Oct 8) Service — The servers and overall service is my biggest issue. I’d like to attempt to call one out that we’ve have gotten every time lately and she puts a TOTAL damper on the night with how snotty and rude she is. You get the sense off of her that she’s totally hateful of her job and is completely annoyed by her customers. Never has a smile on her face whatsoever and makes the whole table a little uncomfortable. Actually following through with requests was a problem at some point as well. When we first got there, a blonde server got my caesar order just before she left shift, brought it how I wanted and garnished it will three olives which was amazing. When the brunette came on shift, and I re-ordered, she brought a different, smaller size when I had a pint glass to start, and didn’t garnish at all. What’s the deal? Is there no standard? I had to ask her for the olives. She came back two separate times and kept forgetting. 15 minutes later, after reminding her, I got them — thanks. Food — The same. Nachos were a little burnt and underwhelming. Atmosphere — They’ve spruced up the bathroom. In some sense it’s nice — but I actually thought this was the more charming part of this so-called metal bar. The general sense I get is that someone came in and tried to take something they thought was low-brow and class it up. When all of those things were actually quite charming and brought locals in. Last night was likely the tipping point and we’ll go somewhere else.

Sad… changed management recently… terrible My friends and I called it «Metal Bar» and it was awesome. Slayer, Danzig, Maiden, even some Morbid Angel once in a while… Clearly someone who loved metal was in charge… metal heads abound, decent food, cold beers and hot tattooed chicks… perfect…I’ve found my new hangout… AND close to my place… Then new management came… I walked in and thought WTF happened to this place… Now its more like«Classic Rock Bar» with loads frat guys and lame tourists looking for something cheap and«edgy» …lame lame lame… was the real deal and someone broke it, good job.Congrats.I’m sure you’ll increase your bottom line. A sad carbon copy of the 10 other… ALLFOOD5.99! …Snore…I’ll find somewhere else.

Basically the same idea as The Warehouse/The Factory which are both nearby. Decided to try Moose out because there was a line for The Warehouse. Friends and I came in around 6pm, we weren’t greeted but the service was quite speedy. They all ordered the pulled pork sandwich while I tried the drunken chicken ciabbata sandwich. The meat from the sandwich was dripping with an oily sauce and the deep fried onions tasted a bit stale… The salad was disappointingly small(even compared to the Warehouse). From what my friends said, their pulled pork sandwiches were good. I’d try that next time instead. Might come back if The Warehouse/Factory gets busy again, but not my first choice.

I’m giving 5 stars because of the service and the quality of the food. For $ 5.95(every food item on the menu), the food is really great. Super impressed. I rate this place higher than it’s ‘sister’ joints(the Warehouse and The Factory), by far. Better service, better food(better selection IMO) and a little off the beaten track(on Nelson just off Granville, but you’d be surprised how many people overlook it). I’ll be back here for sure. The Nachos for one were nicely presented(extra for guac, but worth it), the flatbread was crispy and SO flavorful(with goat cheese and reduce balsamic among other toppings), I’d order it again in a heartbeat. Really enjoyed my Caesar too. Garnished simply with rim salt/pepper and a lemon and lime wedge, it was perfectly spicy. Well done Moose team! Thanks for a great lunch.

this place is awesome!: 1) the heavy metal influence décor 2) the eclectic range of 70’s and 80’s music, from metal, blues, rock, and everything in the middle. 3) the tattoo artists talking shop at the counter 4) the stag horns and the bras girls left from their staggette parties! 5) it joined the list of 5.95 menu bars. Cleaner than the warehouse, better menu than the Capital, and a décor that’s all its own.

Don’t come with a big group. They freak out and treat you like crap. We came with 20+ people and the waitress was super unfriendly even though the group are big spenders & good tippers. Also, their beers are 14oz glasses

Finally tried the $ 6 Sunday special — steak and prawns. Yes, the portion is pretty tiny, but seriously, you can’t expect too much for $ 6. Overall it was decent, but don’t expect the meal to fill you up — a burger or slice of pizza afterwards may be needed. One other thing — you do have to buy a drink purchase to get the special(not sure if it has to be alcoholic), so what you are really looking at is $ 9 – 11 for your meal combo.
