The Westin Grand, Vancouver

We got a great deal on Hotwire. We really lucked out because otherwise the rooms are way too expensive for our pocketbooks. Regularly, they’re close to 300 $ and over, if you want to upgrade. We got a deal for under half.
The hotel is in a great location right downtown in the heart of the hustle bustle. It’s really nice, there is a bar in the lobby and there is also a restaurant on site. An outdoor pool on the third floor with a waiter serving drinks is a great touch! We made use of this service and it was awesome. We had to wait quite a long time for our drinks though. I assume the waiter goes to the lobby bar.
There are about 28 floors and two slow elevators. They have tvs at the elevators to occupy your mind because it is quite a long wait. We took the stairs from the 16^th floor a couple times to avoid the wait.
Our room was nice. We had a suite. There is a soaker tub with separate shower… another nice feature. There is a fully stocked bar, but of course the prices are ridiculous.
Anyway, I’d totally stay here again if I got another sweet deal. If I were paying full price for the room, I wouldn’t be that stoked on it. It’s not 300 dollars wow nice, but it is nice.

Mark (manager) was great. I was using my points for the same rate they were offering. He okayed me saving my points. We had a great city view corner suite. The rooftop pool sets this hotel apart from the others. Walking distance to restaurants, bars, shopping, etc.

Having stayed just one night so far, my experience has been really pleasant. The public parking ($ 30) is large enough and convenient to where my wife and I decided to just pick that over the valet ($ 35), only a five dollar difference a night. The concierge was friendly and the room is is not bad at all seeing how we paid very little for our two night stay. The hotel is centrally located in what looks like the hub for lots and lots of great eateries! Specifically what looks like an Asian district filled with yummy Chinese, Korean, and Japanese food, plus a hip looking Whole Foods Market.
The hotel was also only like 25 mins from the airport too which makes our trip back to the airport and then onto the cruise an even easier transition. =] I also liked that the pool area is kept clean and neat, it’s super nice being able to swim above the street level and just look down from the view.
This is a definite recommend from me. Great service, nice room (with great shower room, which is important to me), nice gym and pool area, and awesome location!

As far as Westins go, the Grand is a bit on the small side and I like that. My wife and I were here for a weeknight stay on our way up to Whistler. The staff here are very friendly and approachable. Our waiter in the restaurant for breakfast was the best. He steered us in the right direction for our meal and offered up a little to go box for the road.
Our room up on the 28^th floor had a spectacular view of the beautiful city of Vancouver. The room itself was a suite with a living area and sofa and a comfy king size bedroom. The bathroom had a standalone shower which I prefer. There was a mini kitchenette inside am what looked to be just another closet. Equipped with a full size microwave, dishwasher, plates and cutlery, it had most everything you could need. The room was very quiet the entire night.

After a horrible experience at the Westin in Seattle I wasn’t sure what to expect here in YVR but I was presently surprised. The Westin Grand was clean, elegant, quiet, and super friendly. Honestly, both the front desk and guys working in the restaurant each morning are the most friendly Westin staff i’ve come across in my 50+ SPG nights per year. Location is also perfect– within walking distance of many attractions.
Our room on the 25^th floor was slightly dated but was spotless and had a nice view of the city. It was also very quiet which my wife and I appreciated. The fitness room was a tad underwhelming but the pool was long enough to swim laps. We had the continental breakfast each morning which was which was pretty nice. Make sure to try to scones.

The team that operates the Westin Grand hotel is far superior to any hotel I have stayed at. I travel nearly every week for work and have a choice when I choose a hotel; upon moving to Canada I switched back to SPG brand hotels. I have enjoyed other hotel stays but the team here has impeccable customer service. I would like to recognize Charlie and Christina for the handmade card welcoming me to Vancouver. Such a simple gesture has made a lasting impact and I have shared this with several people and will also use this example while training my team on customer service.

Very friendly staff! Rooms are clean, quiet and the kitchenette is helpful when traveling with kiddos. Walking distance to many attractions.

The service was good to great, which is factored in my rating mitigating some of the weaknesses. But the hotel is older and needs a refresh. We had difficulty raising the room temperature above 23 celsius, not sure if this was a room issue or overall system restriction. The water flow in the tub/​shower was on the weaker side. The bathroom showed wear and tear on the door and wall. The 31 floors are served only by 2 elevators, which resulted in 10 – 15 minute waits for the elevators on New Year’s Eve. The elevator cabs looked a little beaten up. The location is central but perhaps a couple blocks off the nicer downtown core. All of the above are in the context of the not insignificant Starwood points I used to book the room.

This hotel is great in that it has many great amenities, and the location is in dead center of downtown Vancouver. I checked in here for my Canada vacation, and did not regret it.
I got the deluxe room, with a king bed, a sofa that converts into a bed, sizable floor space including a nice bathroom. I got an upper level room, so I can enjoy the view of the city.
There is a front entrance, which is locked between 11PM and 6AM to everyone except door key card holders. The side entrance is always open, however.
The lobby here is nicely decorated. There is a wine bar located on the premises, as well as a 24 hour fitness center. There is a year-​round heated pool and hot tub.
The one thing that irks me about this hotel is that they have a limited menu. I had to go elsewhere to get a simple snack, because they didn’t have the same night time menu items as other hotels I’ve frequented. Fortunately, the 7-​Eleven and other stores are a short walk from the main entrance.
If you’re looking for a Vancouver adventure, and are looking for nice lodging, then check this place out.

I will never go to another hotel ever again in Vancouver. The Westin has made such an impression on my family and I that I cannot even think of staying anywhere else. I don’t care how much it costs. The atmosphere is fantastic, the location is perfect and the service, impeccable.
Having two small children in a hotel room can be a pain in the ass. The Westin made our experinece great. Our room was spacious and well designed for us. We were able to set the kids up in the living room on the fold out bed while my wife and I relaxed in the bedroom. We had a great corner suite that came complete with a fridge, sink and flatware. Kids eat all the time so it was nice that we could throw a bunch of snacks in the room.
This hotel has an amazing 3^rd level outdoor pool area. Surrounded by the city life, it is a nice little oasis. My boys loved playing in the pool and hot tub. It was quiet and relaxing.
Words of advice.
Use the car service. Do not try to park your own car int heir garage. It is very tight down there. let them do it.
Walk everywhere. You are so close to Stanley Park, the waterfront, the stadium and arena, it’s a waste of money to drive anywhere. The water taxi or cab or your feet will get you anywhere downtown pretty quick.
Tip the staff. These guys are awesome.
I will be back next summer.

Fine. Utilitarian place. Great location on Robson. Nice service. Good dinner. Downside — and I know it sounds trivial — the wifi is flawed. Keeps disconnecting, apparently they have a problem with iPhones. Really? Something to fix but one month after my first visit, it remains.
Rooms large and OK décor. Service fine. Near some great restaurants so an excellent base point. (Medina, Gotham Grill, Small Victory).

it took forever to get our room. She kept saying 15 minutes like 5 times. We just end up leaving and come back and still. our room was not ready. Her English was so hard to understand :(
We left for the whole day and our room wasn’t cleaned or bed was made.
Over all, I loved the view from where we were. The 25^th floor.

Stayed here for one night in a suite booked as part of s package so not sure of cost. Good central location close to shops. The suite was not great I would rather of just had a bigger bedroom. The shower was fab and air conditioning effective. By far the best thing about this hotel were the staff who all were FABULOUS. Would stay again but not in a suite

It’s after 5 am and I’m lying in my hotel room, staring at the ceiling in the dark. It’s as a good a time as any to write a review or vent my frustrations about my stay. Firstly, I don’t have a problem with the amenities, the location, or the bed size. I do have a problem with spending good money to sleep in a nice hotel to find out at about 1:30 am that the bedroom walls are paper thin and that my neighbors want to throw a party. Maybe it’s my fault for not bringing ear plugs. I drift in and out of sleep until about 3 am. I call the front desk and am told, «the night manager will speak with your neighbors.» The party continues. Now I am trying to sleep in a separate room on the couch. Again, I have choices and I am choosing to avoid confrontation.
It’s 3:30 and there is knocking on my neighbor’s door. Out of curiosity, I look through the peephole to see how the situation is handled. At this point I’m tired of the laughing and carrying on. Nope, why am I even surprised? It’s just another party goer showing up at 3:30! Again, I call the front desk. «The night manager went up and did not hear anything. He’ll have to speak to them.» Really? Now I feel like I’m the one being tolerated. Nobody is doing anything about it. Hey, maybe they want me all riled up so I’ll deal with it myself. If it goes that far I know I won’t sleep. Again, I make another choice, now to spare myself. It’s time to wake up. I’ve slept maybe 3 hours tonight. The party may or may not be over, I can’t tell anymore. The early risers are stirring. If I was working this week I’d be waking up right now anyway. I can’t wait for checkout.
Update: By checkout, the morning manager made a good attempt to make things right by giving us points toward our next booking and also a complimentary breakfast. This made me feel a little bit better. I appreciate the gesture. Hopefully, if something like this happens in the future, more can be done to accommodate the guest at the time the incident is occurring.

This hotel has amazing views of the whole Vancouver. Rooms are kind of small. The décor feels old and needs some updates.
The shower has a rain shower head but the shower is actually very small so showering without getting your hair wet is impossible and try to shave in there — it’s acrobatics!
It takes a long time to heat up the room. Couple hours to go from 20C to 22C.
One night (Thursday) I went down to the lobby bar to get a drink before going to a party and the bar was closed to the people who are staying at the hotel. They had Christmas party there! Normally those parties are held at a different rooms in other hotels. I have never seen the main bar closed for hotel guests!
You need a key to go up & down in the elevator which is hugely annoying. We are not use to this and would often get stuck looking through our purses for a hotel key card. Ugh
We come to town often and usually stay at the Hyatt. They have bigger rooms, bigger showers, club lounge for people who are platinum and nice lobby and bar.

Stayed here for a couple of days while in town for the Rock N Roll half marathon.
Upon arrival our room was ready, which is always a plus! I like the key swipe in the elevator as this provides me with that added feeling of security where not just anyone can hop in the elevator and on/​off on any floor. Our suite was located on their top floor, which really isn’t 31 yet still provides a great view of the city (and construction sites below).
I didn’t feel their heating system worked well as it mainly heated the living room area and there weren’t any vents in the bedroom, but it wasn’t a big deal! We left the bedroom doors ajar and were comfortable.
TV’s in the living room and bedroom and a great little kitchenette with microwave, fridge, coffee machine, and all sorts of things you may need if you wish to prepare small meals in your room. There is a grocery store right next door. We didn’t use any of these but it was nice to know they were there.
Didn’t use the tub, but again nice that it was there alongside a rain shower. The shower was a bit small but was fine.
The noise level near our room wasn’t bad but there was some very loud noise that occurred continuously that was pretty annoying and startled me several times. I would have asked to switch rooms but we weren’t here much so I didn’t feel it was worth the trouble.
I love that they offer free Wi-​Fi, but you must have a code from the front desk which is only valid for an hour once validated but this proved helpful several different times and they were very kind to give us as many codes as we asked for (I probably asked at least 2x a day each day we were here).
We visited the bar in the hotel for a glass of wine before leaving for dinner Saturday evening and service was good.
The business center is small but quick and easy option for checking into your flight and printing boarding passes.
Valet and Concierge are helpful.
I didn’t feel they put much emphasis on the runners staying here, in the past other hotels have brought by small token gifts the evening before the race or had snacks/​water and later results posted for those staying at the hotel. The Westin didn’t have any of these things, which is no problem but it’s always nice when they recognize your main reason for the visit.
They were very accommodating when we requested a late check out and extended one additional hour without a charge which was very helpful.
Good location, central to several different areas. We walked most everywhere from here (Gastown, Chinatown, Yaletown, Stanley Park, Convention Center etc.).
The rates are reasonable and I’d recommend this hotel.

I have really mixed feelings about this property… it really shone in some areas, and lacked in some others. I’m a 9-​year SPG Platinum, so a lot of experience with Westin hotels :)
I spent four nights here as part of the SeaWheeze Lululemon Half Marathon weekend.
The good:
1) Stellar staff. Warm, friendly, helpful, responsive. Everything you would want to see when you’re staying somewhere. Every single encounter with a staff I had at this property was a positive one.
2) Great location: on Robson Street, everything you could want was close at hand. Shopping all around. Trendy Burrard street close by. Yaletown and Gastown are both a quick walk. Local corner market right downstairs to get any essentials you might need. Quick walk to the Skytrain.
Both good and a draw-​back:
3) Rooms are well appointed and clean, but also not the best use of space. All rooms are suites, but that means that many rooms have a queen-​sized bed instead of a king, there is hardly any room around the bed to move or put bags. Having a small living room was nice, but I’d prefer the space were just better distributed. The kitchenette was a very nice touch!
The meh:
4) The elevators seriously suck. I learned I had to plan to leave 10 minutes early to account for the long wait for the elevators. The time of day did not matter. I guess that’s why they have TVs in all the elevator bays to entertain you. :(
5) The lobby… or sorta lack thereof. Reception is on the second floor. There is exactly one set of four chairs to sit in. I needed to leave my room to have housekeeping come clean (I had been out all day and it still wasn’t done), and I needed to rest. The one set of chairs was taken by a family the whole time, so I was left with one of the uncomfortable benches. Not really a place to stop and lounge.
Bottom line. Vancouver is a beautiful city and I look forward to coming back. I may try another Starwood property for SeaWheeze 2015 (either the Westin Bayshore or the Sheraton).

Doesn’t have your typical Westin feel. First, the rooms seem a bit old and makes me feel like i’m at a 3-​star extended stay. Regardless though, the hotel is clean and fairly centrally located (5mins walk to downtown). The lobby is also awkwardly located on the 2^nd floor after a long staircase walk up.
PROs: good location, good size room, clean, good service.
CONs: rooms are a bit antique, not free WiFi, elevators to rooms and lobby take a long time

The Westin Grand treated me as if I was a celebrity or had a million dollar in my bank account! I’m extremely picky when it comes to staying at a hotel. I mean, I’m far away from home, so at the end of the day I just wanna rest at comfortable place. Westin Grand exceeded my expectations. Originally, I was placed on the 10^th floor. I then asked if I can get an upgrade to the highest room available since it’s my first time in Vancouver and I’m only here for one night. They surely accommodated my request. They gave me a room available on 31^st floor, which is their highest, and also where the only two penthouse suites are located. I then asked for free wifi, water bottles, and parking! Surely they gave me everything I asked for, for FREE! :D WOW Moral of the story is just ask! It doesn’t hurt to ask for what you want! Superb service!
I picked this hotel because of the location. Granville is the party street that you’d want to go. They shut down the street so people can be drunk and walk around freely. Westin Grand is about 10mins walk. There are a bunch of restaurants and shopping stores nearby. Most likely you’ll park your car in the hotel’s underground because everything is within walking distance so there’s no need to drive nor take the taxi.
