Yagger’s Kits Restaurant and Sports Bar

I wanted to hate this place, I really did, not only because it’s a sports bar but because it’s also a chain. While the décor is what I would describe as obnoxiously trite and ubiquitous the food is FANTASTIC! I would even go so far to say it’s the best pub food in Kits. Went on a Tuesday, I had the sloppy joe with the house salad and coleslaw. Delicious. Only thing, food takes a while, 20 mins or so. Suppose they only have 1 chef on on weeknights.

The wings here are bad, but better than little ceasars :)

Came to this place on a Friday night with a couple of friends. We expected there to be more people but there were only some older guys in there. I got the special for that night, the pulled pork grilled cheese with a salad on the side. My other friends got the bison burger and the BBQ plate. They seemed to enjoy their meals but I found mine really greasy — still tasted fine!
The only problem we had was that it took about 25 minutes to actually get our food served even though they weren’t busy when we came in. Our server was super friendly, however, and they offer discounts on Fridays for UBC students so it’s likely that we’ll come back.

One of my faves spots for a beer and bite to eat! Their menu is pretty original and everything I have had has been delish. Plus, they normally have some pretty cool events during the week, like karaōke!

Good food, great place to watch your favorite football games,

The atmosphere is quite good. You can play some games while eating. I tried some beers in my both visits and they were all good, but the service for the food is slow, You have to be patient to get the food!

I went to yaggers for my first and last time tonight. Tonight was the UFC fights and we had a large group that had called the day before to make reservations. When on the phone making resos we were not told of the $ 5 cover charge for each person. Outside of the restaurant and at the entrance there is no signage or mention of the cover and it was only brought to our attention when the first person went to pay their bill. They had just added the cover without notifying everyone and when we spoke to the manager about it he was very defensive and unapologetic. I understand having to pay a cover, I just like to be notified before I decide to go to a bar that has many others around it who charge no cover and have better service.

Went to Yaggers last night for the Canucks game and what was mentioned on their website as cheap slider night. On the website they show a special of $ 2.25 each, but when we got to there they mentioned the website was outdated and this special wasn’t valid anymore… OK.
So my GF and I split a Cowburger and a trio of the pulled porked sliders on the pretzel buns. Delicious! Yaggers never dissapoints with food, and the fact that they have a $ 3.75 beer every day (shows $ 3.50 on the website) is a great deal. Services wasn’t great, but there was only one waitress for the entire place, so hard to complain about that.
Please update your website though. Your specials and prices seem to be outdated and are misleading customers… but I still love the food here and will keep coming back!

Thursday night is trivia night. Starts around 9:30 and there are Yaggers gift certificates as prizes. Trivia is hosted by the lovely Helen. Helen is a super babe, she’s hilarious, and always has awesome trivia questions. If I was single I would totally try and date her.
If you don’t go for trivia, at least go to meet Helen. You won’t be disappointed.

Always a great time at Yaggers. Great staff, great food. Can’t beat the 2 $ pulled pork tacos on Saturdays, and their 3.50 $ drink specials. I’m always at the Pender location for lunch, this place is great for the weekend!

Came here on a slow Sunday afternoon (today!) for a snack and beers with my g/​f. We sat at the bar and the manager served us. He was friendly and enthusiastic about the food (always a good sign, because if the food sucks, most staff will not take the extra time to excitedly tell you about how good it is)
We ordered fries, cornbread and a trio of sliders (braised beef, duck and pulled pork). I make cornbread at home and it’s one of my favourite things, so I like to try it when I see it on a menu. This was the first time I’ve seen cornbread at a sports pub! The food was quite delicious and it was clearly all made fresh in-​house. Prices were really good with the Sunday specials we got, so I was a little surprised that the bill came to only $ 20 for two beers and enough mid-​afternoon appetizers to completely ruin our dinner.

Have visited again since my last review. Debit has been added as a payment option, and service was better this time (we weren’t ignored!). Food is decent enough and, like I said before, the décor and TV’s make it a fairly good stop in Kits if you’re truly looking for a spot to catch the game.

Bravo Yaggers for going against the grain.
The grain being boring, stuffy, expensive and the same as everyone else. I’ve been a fan of the Yaggers downtown location for years, and the Kits location just adds to the fun, and flavour.
For all the people crying out that Vancouver is a no-​fun city, go to Yaggers. If you’re looking for something different than what half of the new restaurants in town are doing, go to Yaggers. My mouth waters when I think about those BBQ ribs, those unique chicken wing flavours, those duck sliders, and that smoker, which seals the deal if you are a BBQ fan.
The menu is designed for people who love to eat, are looking for not-​so-​standard pub food — and who love great deals too. There are specials every day of the week, and the prices are bang-​on in the ‘repeat visit’ category. This location also offers weekend brunch.
How many restaurants in town take over another’s spot and do the same thing, expecting new and instant success? My answer is ‘too many’. I’m sure this was not Yaggers’ approach when moving into the space formerly known as Migz, so do not judge Yaggers by what was here previously. They are not the same. (And Migz was just a half-​assed attempt at being Fatzos if we’re playing that game.)
No matter what, Yaggers will always make an effort to right something if it doesn’t meet expectation. They really give a damn. The owners actually work the restaurant and the bar. They eat and love their own menu, they’ll buy you a drink if you deserve one. They’ll chat with you if you’re not afraid of breaking anonimity. Show up, as you are, and they’ll hold no qualms against you. You may even find yourself letting loose a little when Dan throws on his tunes, but don’t worry, half the bar would probably already have done the same by then.
If you’d like to read more good reviews, look at the Filtered Reviews. I’m curious as to how some of them got filtered out, or better yet, how some of the legit reviews did not. Either way, give them a try before you let someone else make up your mind for you.

Last night we decided to check out the Yagger’s Kitsilano location. I must admit I was skeptical as I am not a sports fan and considering it was rated really low by some Unilocalers. However, I was willing to check it out with the promise we would only stay for one drink.
Our experience consisted of being greeted at the door and being seated right away. Upon being seated we were given two free drink tickets each as it was their anniversary. The servers were very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The drink selection was pretty good for a sports bar where one would expect to only find the old standbys. I noticed they had a number of inventive cocktails and Caesars on special, hard cider, wine, PBR for the hipsters, and locally brewed beers on tap. We all ordered the seasonal Whistler Chestnut Ale as it is delicious. We then all decided we would try the Sunday special which was three sliders on a pretzel bun for $ 6.75. All the sliders have to be the same, but you are able to choose from pulled pork, beef brisket, smoked duck, smoked turkey, and I think one other kind of meat I can’t remember. When the sliders arrived I was really impressed. They are definitely worth ordering. For my main I tried out the organic bison sausage chilli with cornbread. Again this was another winner having just the right amount of heat balanced against the moist sweetness of the corn bread. My partner ordered the smoked rib appetizer, but guarded them ferociously so no one could get close enough to try them. I figure they must have been pretty good. The staff told us that they smoke all their own meats in a smoker out back. So it is no wonder the food is well above your average pub fare.
The décor is actually way nicer than the downtown location. The only thing that bugged me was the blaring football game commercials. It was pretty loud last night and I would assume most nights. So not exactly a place to bring a girl on a date. However, this would be the perfect place to go watch a hockey game if they ever decide to play again. Or just go to a hockey strike support meetings.
I will be the first to admit Unilocal is not always right. I sort of felt bad sitting there eating a nice meal, drinking really good beer, in a bar full of people having a great time thinking ‘I can’t believe Unilocaler’s only gave this place two stars’. So sports fans I would recommend checking it out. As for Yagger’s turn the volume down on the commercials and maybe consider having a cask night.

Or to put it in terms for those lovely 80s babies of my era… thought, you were on candid camera?
Well, my trip to Yagger’s was a bit like that.
I’ll start off with the good, for a casual kits bar, I thought the décor was lovely. Not too dark, not to light, lots of TVs, it seemed a great place to catch a game or catch up with a friend (as I was doing).
And that’s when it all turned sour.
We ordered.
Since it was a bar we splurged our calorie reservoirs on bar food — ordering onion rings and macaroni and cheese.
The onion rings would have been great had it not been for the ridiculously large dousing in pepper. And I’m not exaggerating, it was like they were taken out straight from the deep fryer and then rolled around in black pepper, and pressed into the pepper with a vigor. While I do enjoy spice with my food, not only was it insanely excessive, but uncomplimentary, it just didn’t work.
The macaroni and cheese was everything but flavorful and included in that everything was endless grease. It was as oily as you can get without having any of the actual flavor that should come with cheese or even butter. It was a mess. And I know messes (I date them exclusively.)
We ended up sending the items away (and the waitress, to be honest, seemed none too surprised) but not before I was sneezing and my face was beet red from trying to forge through all that pepper.
In theory, I think this restaurant could be awesome. It’s got a great location and I liked the interior set up. But to be honest, it felt like we were on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares and I just kept waiting for Gordon Ramsey to come bounding out of the kitchen with apologies and to assure me he was hard at work helping them turn this place around.

In a word… disappointing.
I really wanted to like this place. It’s in my neighbourhood, the menu sounded somewhat innovative and featured organic ingredients. But overall my experience was very poor.
Food — I ordered the duck confit sandwich (mmmm duck slow cooked in it’s own fat). While the duck was very good, the portion was extremely small, especially for a $ 15 sandwich. It included ‘double blanched’ fries which I had never tried but sounded interesting. Apparently that translates to ‘overcooked, dry, over crispy and cold’. My dining partner ordered chicken wings which looked over battered (why does anyone batter deep fried wings) and apparently weren’t good at all. Beer tasted old and stale.
Service — It felt like waitresses were hovering trying to get us to keep ordering beer. I appreciate some attention but this was way too much. It’s not like it’s a big place — if we needed service we could easily get their attention.
Value — $ 15 for a tiny sandwich and bad fries. $ 10 for a small plate of wings. I asked for a side of mayo to try and make the fries palatable, they charged me a dollar. I take points away from any restaurant that charges for condiments, especially when I’m paying $ 15 for a sandwich. I also had an online coupon I got to try this place out, they wouldn’t accept it towards their normal daily specials and beer special (if $ 16 for a small pitcher is special). Never had this problem any place else.
Other — claims to be a sports bar. Canucks went into overtime. The bar manager decided it was a good time to mess around with the TV inputs, at first blocking out the game with menus, then shutting off half the TV’s in the place. Why?
Needless to say, would not recommend, only points it gets are for the organic stuff on the menu. It just seems like a more expensive, less inviting place than the restaurant it replaced Migz.

i went here for the first time it’s been changed into yaggers the other night and it was bitter-​sweet because i absolutely loved migz.
they’ve completely renovated it, i don’t like how there aren’t booths anymore. and they’ve jacked up the prices too! $ 16 for a pitcher of beer ON SPECIAL is absolutely ridiculous. $ 20+ for a pitcher at normal price.
i do love and appreciate how they kept the migz spicy garlic prawns — although it’s served differently, it’s still exactly the same dish. the food is actually pretty good.
