CLOSED while they renovate the hotel does not look like that will be for awhile. I am looking forward to visiting when the hotel is complete.

I have never experienced anything while dining at a restaurant, let alone a casual fine dining one, as my friends and I had the misfortune of experiencing here. My wife and I came to celebrate our marriage from that day with some close friends. It was in mid-December, so there was a party of about 20 and 4 other tables besides us. We ordered our drinks, which came in the usual manner, then our appetizers that came 25 minutes after our order. After about an hour of waiting for our entrees, we asked for some more bread, but they apologized because they had run out. On a Saturday night?! When it’s not even busy?! Half the restaurant was empty! In the meantime, a middle aged woman at the adjacent table stood up and pulled her pants and underwear down to mid thigh and shined her friends for a good 5 seconds. This of course meant she mooned the rest of the restaurant. I’m don’t exactly walk around with my nose in the air, but come on! We told the server, who told us he knew the woman, was aware of what happened and that she was very sorry and embarrassed. As he said this, I couldn’t help but look past him and see her still laughing amongst her friends in her drunken demeanor. After an hour and twenty five minutes, we told the server we were going to leave. He of course lied and told us they were plating out food. We were a pretty easy going group and obliged to stay. Fifteen minutes later the food came. It was pretty good. Definitely not worth the wait or price. We had bought an expensive bottle of alcohol and expressed interest in possibly purchasing another-this was before all of the events took place. The server actually had the audacity to give us a «deal» not by offering to take a percentage off the bill, giving us a gift certificate for the next visit, or by offering something complimentary, but by informing us that if we were to purchase another very expensive bottle of alcohol, they would sell it to us at cost. WOW!!! The compensation for this horrible experience on our wedding day of all days, was to give us a discount if we spent over 200 dollars more!!! I will never have anything to do with this place again. I say over and over that I don’t tell people not to patronize establishments, but do yourself a favor– go the The Keg where you know you will be treated well with good food at a far less expensive price.

Well, here’s a new addition to the fine dining scene in Victoria… formerly Hy’s and then Barclay’s, and now just reopened as Belmiro’s…former owner of Prime has relocated here, and the casual elegance of this space is very enjoyable. Expansive cocktail area, and appealing dining spaces… large groups or intimate tables… it’s all possible, here. This«corner» location enjoys light, and airy allure, and is a very warming place to unwind. The menu offers an eclectic array of elements, with the emphasis on fresh, local, organic… great kitchen, thoughtful wine list… I enjoyed a wild sockeye salmon entrée and the blue cheese/iceberg hearts salad to start was the right choice! Next time, dessert, too… good selections. Excellent wait staff. Looking for something with flair and good fare? Here it is! The new kid on the block is already busy…
