Flying Otter Grill

Went here with a bunch of friends on their wing night. Their wings are okay. Not great. Just average.

Came here in the summer time with my family and really enjoyed it. Nice little restaurant on the dock. We were seated pretty quickly (must have gotten there at a good time). Service was decent, food was great (we all ordered something different and devoured every bit of it) and the view of the inner harbour was magnificent!
I would recommend this place!

Well! I suppose the no-​star option isn’t available but the reason you should NOT eat here is this. My guy and I ate there once and thought ‘hey, another cool Victoria place’ so he bought a Groupon coupon — BIG mistake! After a wonderful hello to a staff member who just returned from her holiday and remembered us… we chatted with a waitress, careful to let her know that we had a $ 30 Groupon coupon where upon she lets us know that the 2 for 1 Appetizer Special could not be included. I asked why and her reply was that the management didn’t want people coming in and just ordering ‘appies’ on the coupon (that stinginess should have tipped me off… no pun intended). I asked if we could just order one and then dinner and she said sure, why not!
After a fun taste treat and the salmon en croute majestically presented, my guy orders a soda pop and then after a bit, is offered a refill which he accepts. Bill comes and a new waitress comes over and explains that we can’t use the full $ 30 Groupon amount against our bill because we – BAD CUSTOMERS — dared to order an appetizer!!! As well there was an additional $.45 added for the pop refill. The waitress minuses $ 26.73 off the bill and tells us we HAVE to pay the rest and oops… sorry but she cannot use the whole Groupon amount but too bad so sad.
I was shocked that this so-​called ‘restaurant’ would badger a customer, with over $ 50 tab for food, beverages, taxes, etc. over $ 3. and change, when we planned on tipping over %17? The waitress called a male server over and HE said sorry we cannot do anything about this.
Wow, such a lack of customer appreciation. By the way, used a Groupon for the same amount at Formosa at Market Square… took the whole thing off and gave us a free desert! No dickering over taxes not included, alcohol not included, appetizers not included… blah blah… shame on you Flying Otter and all of you small time so-​called restauranteurs! Shame for treating a customer like this!!! We will NOT be back and I will not shut my big mouth! This is not the way to treat what could have been regular clientele!

Avoid like the Plague!!! My friend and I both got horrific food poisoning here that took over a week to recover from. extremely bad all-​round experience, you have been warned.

Really delicious! The Wild BC Salmon over quinoa with veggies was really good, especially with the cranberries on top, however, it could have definitely used some type of sauce (maybe even cranberry sauce!) over the quinoa, We also ordered the beef dip which was excellent! Very soft bread, great tasting sliced beef, just the right amount of beef dip, and a really good sized portion of yam fries! The yam fries were thin-​sliced and crispy, which we really enjoyed. We went during lunch time and the servers were very courteous and attentive. Overall, a great experience and we will definitely be coming back to try the delicious sounding wraps!

Great service and food! Put us right on the water and did fantastic job. Casual atmosphere that I highly recommend. Fish and chips were great too!

Went here for an early lunch on my first day in Victoria. Ordered the spinach salad for lunch and the artichoke dip as an appetizer. Sangria to drink. The restaurant looked and felt mediocre– nothing special nor anything terrible. We watched other guests’ food arrive and it looked bland, boring.
Our food arrived and it was tastier than it looked. My salad was very fresh and light. The sangria, however, was sub-​par. It was a little too much on the fruit-​juice side of things for my taste.
Our waitress was nice. Pretty quiet but I am fine with that. Service was very quick though the restaurant was not too full at the time.
There’s a view of the harbour, but not too special as much of it is clouded by parked boats since the deck is in a bit of an inlet.
Overall, the meal was satisfying, nothing went bad. It was slightly more expensive than some food places of similar quality.
This is probably not a place I’d go out of my way to eat at, but it’s not too bad if you’re in a pinch.

I’ve been here 3 times now — I left happy every time!
My mom is in love with the halibut fish and chips, so we make sure to come here every time she comes to visit. Thursdays after 4 with the purchase of any drink they have a deal for steak, shrimp, baked potato and salad for $ 13.95! They have deals on other days as well, but this one is my favorite.
Definitely check this place out! It’s a small restaurant, so if you go at a busy time, be prepared to wait.

Named for the Harbour Air de Havilland Otter Floatplanes that you’ll see coming and going, this is a great place to grab a snack after your flight. It is just a few steps from the Victoria Seaplane terminal. Really friendly staff.
But the food was not memorable. (I can remember the views, the funky Flying Otter décor, and the attentive staff. But I really cannot remember anything about the food, other than it wasn’t too bad!

Ate here on July 4^th with brother and his longtime friend/​classmate.
We initially wanted to eat at Red Fish Blue Fish but the line was too long so we opted to eat here since there’s no wait. Big mistake, I should have known that if there’s good food, there’s a long line.
We ordered the following:
Appetizers:
Bacon wrapped prawns $ 14.50 (5 pcs of so-​so tasting overcooked prawn — which with the price, would come down to almost $ 3 a piece) NOT WORTH IT!
Pan seared crab cakes $ 15 (3pieces only and also tasted just so-​so. Again, with the price of $ 5 a piece, it’s TOO PRICEY. I only ate my portion since I didn’t want to waste my $ 5 single piece of appetizer.
Main dish:
Seafood Paella — I don’t know why this paella is swimming in a broth, we thought it was strange/​weird. The taste, ugghh… The worst tasting paella I’ve ever tasted. And I’ve eaten several from at least a few different countries
Fish (halibut) and chips. These we ate. The taste and portion were passable. Or maybe we’re just hungry.
Oh by the way, I asked for an extra mayonnaise for our fries/​chips. I was surprised when we got our bill, that we were charged $ 0.50 for a maonnaise. Really!!! And multiple packets are just free in most fast food joints…
If ever I’ll come back here, I’ll never eat here again nor will I recommend this place to friends. Tonight, we’ll definitely try Red Fish Blue Fish. Hopefully we’ll be happier…

I was pleasantly surprised with my order. I usually have low standards for food taste /​quality at dining establishments that boast nice views, even if it currently has a 4-​star rating.
I ordered the Spicy prawn wrap with yam fries. The prawns were juicy and flavored with a nice kick to it (I love spicy food). And I had debated between fries vs salad but the wrap was stuffed to the brim with salad veggies, making me glad I ordered the fries instead.
The fries were excellent. Crispy, skinny yam fries with a side of dip. A huge portion, you won’t need to worry about leaving hungry.

Great views. Clam chowder was blah, mediocre. Really enjoyed the fish wraps & fries. Were our of two dishes by noon.

Ordered their spinach salad. The dressing wasn’t spread out evenly but patience and mixing the greens eventually made it all good. Not enough cashews either. Pears and strawberries where in a good amount. Views are amazing by the float planes. Nice woodland themed décor. Hubby got the beef dip but didn’t seem wowed. I don’t think they add garlic butter to the buns like most places. Fries were amazing. We ordered another side of fries because it was so good.

Will never come back here again. I’ve been craving fish and chips since it is a staple of Canadian cuisine. Got to Victoria after 2 hours of ferry ride and drive with my Dad and Sis so we were starved. Even with our starvation, I thought the fish was bland and the chips were soggy. What a disappointment. It’s not a cheap place either. So much for that. I’d pass if I were you.

Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the atmosphere inside is comfortable and casual. Kind of on the pricey side, but we’ll worth it. The food was delicious. Had the surf and turf and did all but lick the plate clean! Must have the italian doughnuts for dessert… NOT to be missed! Plus you have a great view of the float planes :)

Great atmosphere and great food.
I had a half rack of ribs with a sub side of poutine, and the portions were huge!
The put bacon and green onions on their poutine, but you can ask for it without.
The ribs were tender, just wish they would of had some more seasoning.
The poutine is truly delicious.
There is not that much seating, and some tables are up with stools, and it makes it little uncomfortable to eat a whole meal on.
It was really cold and they keep the door open the whole time.
The burgers looks delicious.
Overall great place for poutine! Good prices for portions!

Nice location close to the seaplanes on the water. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, which is nicely heated during the cold fall/​winter weather. Service was ok. Mussels and fries were good but wish the fries were on the side so that it didn’t get soggy from the broth. The fish and chips were good and greasy. Bacon wrapped prawns were good. The chicken wings were good. The poutine was ok.

My only catch is for a party of 7 on a Thursday we had to wait 30 minutes at 5:30 for a table.
Other then he wait the food was delicious. A perfectly medium rare steak with shrimp and a good Caesar alongside. Spinach dip lacked any kick but wasn’t too over the top cheesy. Mussels were also perfect. To be expected we hit the two for one appetizer special which helped curb the cost. That’s til 6:30. Would go back if in Victoria again.

This is the perfect place to sit back, order food and drinks with Grandma while you wait for your flight to leave. The food and wait staff come quickly and are very sweet.
We had a beautiful view of the waterfront and the seaplanes taking off and landing. We were worried at first that we might need to leave because it was so busy and there were only bar stools left. A table with chairs opened up after about five minutes.
We could watch the slow tide ebb and flow and talked about the different parts of our trip together.

Great location NOT great food!
On a busy Friday night I booked a table for my party of 7 at 6pm, which was a great time to take advantage of the «happy hour» special. Our drinks and appetizers were good/​not great with the exception on the yam fries, which were excellent.
We had great service, a table on the patio (the outdoor heaters made a cold, rainy evening bearable), and a lovely view. While waiting for our order to arrive my grandson, age 5, was able to wander outside along the docks with his Papa and relieve the boredom that any kind of a wait causes a small child.
When our food arrived it was such a disappointment! Bland, uninspired, and average. The salad portions were generous, the presentation was appealing, but the taste wasn’t impressive (two goat cheese salads and one chicken Caesar). The sandwiches, burgers, and wraps were also average and unappealing. On a happy note, my grandson LOVED his pizza.
Not a place I’d eat at again.
