Historique

Fondé en 1983.

In 1983 Sports Trade Mall began. The concept was a public market for sporting goods. At the current location ‘cubicles’ or stalls were rented out to local merchants to sell new sporting goods of various kinds. The middle portion of the market was operated by the Mellett brothers where they offered used sporting goods. As the years went by the Mellett brothers took over the individual booths until they owned every booth and changed their name to Sports Traders. That first year, 1983 the gross sales were $ 300,000. The sales grew rapidly and by 1994 had reached the $ 5 million mark. In 1987 the Sports Trader concept was franchised and over 30 stores were established right across Canada all the way to Halifax. In 1991 Sports Traders USA was established and in 1999 had grown to 6 stores and was sold to a US Franchise Company.
