This really is Fortress Investment Group, specifically an asset of their Castle holdings (
). Looking for a quick buck, they bought some mountains back between 2004 – 2006 and are now stuck with them.
In my opinion, they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar and now have to run businesses they know nothing about. Obviously, none of them have listened to Warren Buffet ever speak. I don’t run a nuclear reactor company. Know why? BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW A DAMNED THING ABOUT NUCLEAR REACTORS!
Talking with a few Intrawest employees, Fortress slashed their middle management, which are the people that oversee the front lines. The guest services managers if you will. And this was seriously showing the entire trip with peoples hands tied, wanting to do more, but knowing they’d be in for it. The staff was awesome and worked really hard within the constraints placed upon them. As a whole, they were great. The two managers I spoke with however should have be strapped to an avalanche charge.
I loved my stay here, but with all the issues with the booking, the «guest relations» and anything to do with the management of the place, I think I’d just stay at the Holiday Inn Sunspree and wing it from there. I certainly wouldn’t book with them ever again and as soon as they sell off Whistler Blackcomb to someone that can actually run a resort and not worry about squeezing out .0004% more ROI as a way of life, I’ll be the first to book to celebrate the fall of Fortress.
