The Daily Planet

I contacted the owner from Vancouver to get a good idea about what he had that I could use to furnish our place. He was very nice and kindly texted me a whole bunch of photos. I finally made it in on a Sunday night 10 minutes before closing and not knowing it was me who he had texted, he greeted me so warmly and let me stay 40 minutes over closing to pick out the things I needed. His store has the most beautiful and great finds. All in excellent new looking condition. I didn’t even realize they were used until he mentioned it! His prices were absolutely excellent too. I am going back tomorrow to pick out some final touches. Very good guy and great store.

I am going to give this store five stars. It is used stuff, but it is really nice used stuff. I have a home full of pine furniture, and though did come in to look in several times, eventually I found a tall boy and a couple night stands. They are in much better condition than you would find in most thrift stores, and I have seen similar items selling for about the same price on on Craigslist. However, I find buying from a store much more convenient, because at this time I am not a full-​time resident and scheduling meeting times can be a hassle.
The people who run the store (Martin and Karen) are really nice too. I also got a couple cool towel racks (from a famous forge), an original pastel (which I thought was very reasonable), and a set of lamps (on sale). They have a lot of stuff and it is displayed nicely, so it is pleasant just to look around the store. They aren’t pushy if you are «just looking» either. (It took me a quite awhile to make up my mind about the pastel).

The Daily Planet is a cute furniture store in Function Junction, a locals neighbourhood of Whistler, outside the village. It has vintage furniture, but not junky stuff — more of a well curated collection of nice dining tables, chairs, coffee tables, old wooden skis and wooden snowshoes. I have bought cool owl lamps and a bear beer opener there that are totally unique, and don’t look like they just came from West Elm.
