Residence Inn Whitby/Oshawa by Marriott is an all suite hotel; whether travelling for business, pleasure or relocation our staff is waiting to welcome you.
My family stayed here over the course of three days while in town, and we had a great experience. We were greeted warmly by the front desk staff and our room was ready early, which was nice. We reserved a standard queen room which was actually a suite, and had a full kitchen and living area. The rooms were really nicely decorated and super spacious, and I appreciated the stainless steel appliances in the kitchen(and a full size fridge! Bigger than the one in my apartment!). The kitchen was also stocked with flatware and cutlery and glasses which was nice. The living area has a pull out sofa bed, which we didn’t use, but the couch was very comfortable. The bed was great, although the pillows were a bit flat. I slept very well when we were here! The bathroom has an exterior sink which I always appreciate when sharing a room. I was able to do my makeup and get ready while my sister was in the bathroom. Perfect! We should have had this setup growing up! :) The best part of our stay was the unexpectedly delicious breakfast. I fully expected a continental cereal/bagels/pastry deal, but this went above and beyond! There was French toast and pancakes, home fries, scrambled eggs(with salsa, chives and cheese for toppings!), sausage, and a waffle bar! They also had fresh fruit salad, yogurt parfaits, and all the other accoutrement that you desire at breakfast! It was awesome. They also have an indoor pool and hot tub(it’s not glorious but it’s fine) and a fitness room with some cardio machines and free weights. So why not five stars? Our experience was great except for one major thing: the entire hotel was insanely hot when we were there. Our room itself had great air conditioning, but anytime we ventured into the hallways or lobby it was stifling hot. If they could fix that, this place would be great. It’s very family friendly and affordable.

A little bit pricier than the other hotels nearby. But the room was extremely clean and up to date. The facilities are well maintained. They even have a complimentary dinner which was nice so I didn’t even have to go out in the cold after my arrival. Nice breakfast buffet as well. I was however disappointed in the pool and fitness areas. Went to use the nice elliptical machine but it does not work at all. They have 2 very nice treadmills with TV but the TVs do not get any stations. So I blew off the fitness room and went into the hot tub. It is lukewarm at. I’m guessing 80 degrees? Anyways not very comfortable to relax in as I expected. Since that’s what I had planned for my morning it was a big waste and let down

Used to be pretty good, 6 – 7 year ago. Service and quality has since taken a turn for the worse. I’ve stayed here probably 100+ nights over the last 7 years. Not so anxious to say any more. Last stay(and probably last, ever) was Nov 2014. — Rear door opens from rear parking lot to elevator banks. Leaves from outside had blown in and were scattered throughout elevator lobby for the entire duration of my stay(3 days) — Asked for a wake-up call both nights of my stay. Didn’t happen either morning. Residence Inn’s are primarily for business travelers. Wake-up calls can be important. Be professional! When I came down the second morning, noticed that the front desk was unmanned, and the only employee around was making breakfast in the dining area. Perhaps she was meant to do the wake-up calls? — wrote to manager to inform them of the issues, in the hope that they be remedied. Manager apologized and offered to credit my Marriott awards account with extra points to make up for the poor service. Two weeks later, still no points. Followed up, got another apology from same manager. Now into second week of January, still no points. Emailed manager for status report, no response. Not the level of service I’m accustomed to from Marriott, given how often I, and the company I am part owner of, use Marriott hotels. Will certainly be on the alert for alternatives to Residence Inn Whitby, and unfortunately now not as confident in the Residence Inn brand.
