In my ongoing series of lunch dates with Bob the Dad, his suggestion for our last lunch was the Ellice Café. As I am always a bit suspect as to where he might be taking me,(Is the Original still on Main Street? Supposed to have the best spaghetti in town? I rest my case lol), you can only imagine my delight when I walked through the door. Of course I also Googled the restaurant to learn a little more about them and was delighted to read about their community involvement around employment and training. I love it when a nosh spot also appeals to my ideals of social pay it forwarding :) Ok, the food… I am going to go on record and say that the clubhouse I had here was the BEST clubhouse I have ever had… ever…and I’ve been testing this classic sandwich for at least 30 years. The bread was perfect, with soft crusts and didn’t rip open the inside of my mouth. Why don’t more restaurants take heed of this detail? Anyway, fresh turkey and thick bacon rounded out this delight of a sandwich and it is indeed going to become a standard favourite. Prices are great, the room is comfortable and inviting, the service was friendly even though it was tremendously busy, and the iced tea really rocked too! Excellent excellent job Ellice Café, please keep it up! PJ xo

The prices at this affordable café just went up, but they’re still excellent for the quality and variety of the menu. The burger here is fantastic — juicy and enormous. I’ve never personally had the pizza, but my friends and colleagues like it. In addition to your standard complement of greasy diner standards(onion rings, burgers, etc) this restaurant also offers healthier selections — roast vegetables, pasta dishes, wraps. Their tea is loose-leaf and served in china teacups! This restaurant is meant to be a community service — providing affordable, quality food in a comfortable environment. And in this, Ellice Café succeeds. This restaurant makes welcome people from the West End neighbourhood, professionals, students and anyone else who walks through the door. The staff are always unfailingly friendly and accommodating.
