Came here for dinner as a group of 5. We got there as soon as it opened(6:30pm on a Saturday). Reservations are recommended, as it filled up pretty quickly after we’d arrived. The only smørrebrød on the menu was a trio, so we ordered that as an appetizer to share. I was a little disappointed to not have more smørrebrød options after reading so much on Unilocal about ‘the best open-faced sandwiches in town’, but was pleased that they were really delicious. Quality over quantity! The rest of the food was very good as well — the chicken tartelet(like a chicken pot pie but less creamy, the lamb, the pork terrine. Beautifully presented dishes, on very nice ceramic dishes(kh whurtz) add to the elevated experience. This seems worthy of three $$$s and not two, especially for dinner — we shared appretizers and each got a main course, a drink, and no dessert, and barely walked out under 500kr/person.

Aamanns was recommended to us before we arrived in Copenhagen. We managed to snag a table for a delicious, traditional open-faced meal that was extraordinary. The ambience was perfect and the meal could not have been more wonderful. Try the homemade Snap!

We went with the smørrebrød sampler and were not disappointed. The traditional herring smørrebrød was my favorite. The waiter also encouraged us to order the homemade aquavit, which were an interesting addition to the meal.

I got three of the cold smørrebrød to go(for 180DKK) and an organic rhubarb juice(for 35DKK). At first I wanted to get the tasting menu which was 4 smaller smørrebrøds, but found out that it’s kitchen’s choice. So I just picked three regular size ones to try. I think two would have been filling enough, but I couldn’t decide between them so got all three. Went and had a little picnic in the botanical gardens nearby! The take-out packaging is adorable. I got the barrel matured herring, the egg and hand peeled shrimps, and the tatare with smoked cheese cream. My favourite was by far the tatare. Perfect tatare to bread ratio. Perfect toppings(esp the smoked cheese cream). I also really really enjoyed the shrimp and egg one. I wasn’t a fan of the herring… but that may be because I don’t like pickled/curried herring in general? Would love to go back sometime to get their picnic deal. It’s 190DKK per person, min 2 persons. You get 4 smørrebrøds, 2 desserts, 2 sodas(and maybe something else but I can’t remember). Seems like a really good deal! The ambiance in the restaurant looked nice(fancy but not pretentious), and they have a few 2-person tables out front of the restaurant. Would totally return for the tatare and shrimp smørrebrøds! Also, the rhubarb juice was delicious.

Tasty new Nordic Danish open sandwiches. The herring and beef were excellent, the chicken salad one was good. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Copenhagen.

Really enjoyed this place. Delicious fresh ingredients and good service. We had the pan fried fish, brisket and North Sea cheese. Best meal we had in Denmark. Their beer choices and homemade Aquavit were great punctuation.

This was my first stop in Copenhagen. If you want traditional Danish food and drinks you need to come here. Order some open-faced sandwiches, snaps, local beer and just soak in the culture. It’s not cheap but you are paying for the quality. My favorite were the salmon and beef!

The braised pork open-faced sandwich is delicious! The diced pear and walnuts completed the pork well. Portion is not big… more like a snack between lunch and dinner.

Aamanns is a delightful little establishment in Østerbro near many popular tourist sites. A perfect place for lunch, situated walking distance from the Art Museum(Statens Museum for Kunst), the Geologisk Museum, the Botanical Gardens or a tour of the Crown jewels at the nearby Rosenborg Slot. Smørrebrød is the very Danish open face sandwich — which you can find at many restaurants in town. Do yourself a favor and skip the other places. Go to Aamanns. Fresh, delicious, high quality ingredients served beautifully and with lovely service — a seeming rarity in Copenhagen. The Sunday frokost menu(lunch menu) had 7 distinct and varied options for sandwiches which come in 2 or 3 pieces for 155DKK or 215DKK respectively regardless of choice. And by sandwich — this is the Danish definition. There is only one piece of bread — a small slice of Danish rugbrød, or «rye bread»(but that is misleading to an American palette. Don’t think of the New York deli brown rye bread with caraway seeds that you would pile with pastrami and sauerkraut between two thick slices and pick up with your hands to chow down.) Danish rugbrød is dense, chewy, seedy, nutty, sour and delicious. An acquired taste on its own. I am personally addicted now. Smørrebrød uses this delicious bread sliced thin as a base. Toppings for smørrebrød define the purveyor and Aamanns offers supreme representatives. The blend of different flavors on each of our offereings was perfect. Between the four of us — we tried all 7 choices — ordering 2 options each. I LOVED the curried herring(very Danish — seriously try it — it is delicious and not like the soupy yellow mayonaise-y versions I’d seen elsewhere — I loved it.) I also tried the pork cheeks with apple and créme frâiche. Delicious — but I was loving the beef tartare my husband ordered as well as the other beef my mom chose. Both amazing. The chicken salad was fine. Predictable, not epic — as was the avocado and greens option. If you are in to smoked things(and even if you aren’t — you’re in Denmark — try something different!) choose the smoked cod — it is minced and perfectly accompanied — so delicious. With you meal — try the house infused snaps — it’s traditional. Just say Skål and look each person in the eye when you toast before sipping or slamming that toast. I loved my «Porse» option — a spiced herbacious option that mellowed the sometimes harsh taste of traditional Danish snaps. Tell the server what flavors you like and don’t like — they can help you find one you might like. Try a couple different ones. Aamann’s delicious offerings of modern smørrebrød and house infused snaps will convert the curious. Set in clean, modern Danish designed restaurant with lovely accommodating service as well. Skål! Cheers from Copenhagen!

Liver pâté smørrebrød — a warm, timeless Danish classic! Aamanns embodies the quinteseential Danish smørrebrød. Open faced sandwich, this restaurant is modern, with classic choices of smørrebrød. You can’t go wrong with the liver pâté smørrebrød, which is served warm, on buttered rye bread, with the pâté topped with sautéed wild mushrooms. My mouth salivates just thinking of how amazing this sandwich was. Their chicken salad smørrebrød is a classic, and the salmon is topped with a dill sauce and mustard seeds that I could eat over and over again. Clearly a favourite with the locals, Aamanns does take-away and caters for those who want to serve their amazing sandwiches for a festive gathering. Truly one of the best sandwich shops in all of Denmark, Aamanns is not to be missed–

It is, without doubt, one of the best places to have smørrebrød in town, definitely. So why only three stars out of five? Well, I might sound a bit too fussy but my two major remarks are environment and price. First of all, the service was super nice. Waitress welcomed us really warmly, took us to our table and did her job splendidly. She was patient, asking if everything was doing OK, if the food was fine, and so on. And I really appreciated it because being treated in such a cheerful way during a meal affects me a lot. But here’s the sore point: location. I didn’t like at all the fact that there were too many tables one next to each other and the space between them was so narrow that I couldn’t even pass through. How am I supposed to get out of my seat if this is the setting? I found it really uncomfortable also because I had to bother my neighbors every time I had to go to the bathroom and so. Second, the price. 510kr for three portions of normal-sized smørrebrød each and tap water seem a little(juuuust a little) bit too much to me. But maybe this is the average price also in other smørrebrød restaurants. I don’t know. I just know that I think it was overpriced, that’s it. Oh! And 70kr for two cups of coffee. I almost forgot. I’ll definitely go back to Aamanns if in the mood for smørrebrød, but just after I’ll receive my paycheck. LOCATION — 3 SERVICE — 4 FOOD — 4 QUALITY/PRICE — 2

Just to sum it short, I’m a foreigner in Denmark who has lived in this country for 10 years and still find it difficult to have a cold lunch in the form of smørrebrød like the native people. That said, it doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy having really well-made Danish open sandwiches. Since I don’t eat smørrebrød often, I have to make sure the ones that I intake must be of good quality, or I would be sorry forever. So, no to føtex’s 3 for 30 kr offer. Aamans, in my most honest opinion, serves one of the best smørrebrød in town. They might not be the traditional kind like Ida Davidsen, but still, it’s something that even I could be excited about as a foreigner: P Halfway into December, I booked a table at Aamans for lunch time and found out that they have(only) Christmas menu. To be honest, I’m not fan of herring in any season, but my lunch mate could testify that it was good. My salmon was super as well, with the salmon so thick and moist. However, my favourite piece was obviously the tartar. I must admit that my love affair with raw meat is something of a recent affair but the tartar and roe smørrebrød was so good I felt like declaring my love to it. We downed the smørrebrød with Herlsev Julebryg which I wasn’t such a big fan of(sorry IPA, I could never learn to love you) but all in all we had good experience at Aamans. PS: Make sure you book your table, this place is popular and can get pretty crowded during lunch time.

Stunning and tasty food! Anyone visiting Copenhagen needs to try smørrebrød(open faced sandwiches) and this is a great place to do so. The menu is simple with 8 – 10 options where you choose either 2 or 3. And pair it with some beer, wine or home made akvavit. Great atmosphere, but not a huge location so I’d recommend making a reservation. Negatives were the mediocre service and price(~150kr for 2, ~$ 20 or $ 10 per sandwich). They didn’t welcome us or present menus for almost 10 minutes at which time they could only produce one menu for our 3 person table since all others were in use. I’ll probably be back sometime when hosting some visitors to DK.

I visited this establishment back in Copenhagen Dining Week ’14 and was really impressed. The dishes was superb and quite unique at a very reasonable price, because of the event. I explicitly remember getting a fish soup with some glass cabbage strings/noodles, which was really good. Unfortunately when we came back about half a year later it was very different and the dishes was not so exciting this time. The only thing I remember was this piece of pork that has been made in sous vide, which I’ve gotten a million times before. This time we also had to pay the full price and to me it didn’t quite hit the mark. So I am going to judge this on the lowest common denominator.

There are a lot of great places for smørrebrød in Copenhagen. Aamanns was fantastic. I had their smoked salmon and chicken salad smørrebrød and it was delicious and beautifully presented. Two smørrebrød is enough for one person. Service was great here. I definitely recommend coming here and would come again.

Service was great and friendly. The interior is small and has 11 or 12 small tables so we had to wait a few minutes. English menu is available. Lunch menu is solely open faced sandwiches & drinks. The food was spectacular. I got the potato one and the flavors were impeccable. I was also going to get the fish of the day one but they had already run out by 1:30 so I asked out server what her favorite was and she said she liked the beef tartare and it was the best! The flavor was great and and the textures were so good, it was topped with cucumber and small chips for a crunch. I also took tastes of my families sandwiches and both cheese ones off the menu I would definitely recommend. They were my favorite after the beef tartare one. The chicken salad, salmon, liver pâté, and herring were also all excellent. They really pair texture well with taste leading to an amazing meal! At then end of your meal get up and pay at the counter. Restroom also available inside.

The pictures look so pretty on the website so we booked for both Sunday lunch and Wednesday dinner. For Sunday lunch we ordered three open sandwiches plus tea. The potato sandwich was all right but two fish sandwiches were outstanding. They were just so delicious and pretty. The quince tea was very smooth with nice smell. We think open sandwiches here are better than those at Royal Smushi and Schonnemann. For dinner one of us ordered 4 course menu and the other had to order a la carte. They are not flexible to accommodate for food restrictions. Food was so beautifully presented that we started to take photos which we usually don’t do this kind of thing. The dinner plates and bowls were art pieces themselves. We also like the light greenish color of the wall and cute herb plant pot on each table. Food was good but not a «wow» as we experienced at its lunch and a few of other restaurants such as No.2. Taste cannot compete with its appearance. Highly recommend for lunch though.

Oh what fun it is to try little open face sandwiches that come with all different types of toppings. Dont like one? No worries, try the next little sandwich — which I bet is going to be mighty tasty. Open face sandwiches are a Danish classic. It was on our ‘must do/eat’ in Copenhagen list. What better place to go then Aamanns, a famous establishment for making yummy sandwiches while making sure they use quality ingredients. We tried four types Beef from Grambogaard — Slices of grilled sirloin with chunky remoulade, horseradish, crispy onions and chervil. Absolutely amazing and my personal favorite. The horseradish wasn’t overpowering but provided a bite. The creamy remoulade and the medium rare beef that was served cold. New Potatoes, chicken skin, almonds and ramson. Quite delish! The chicken skin gave a salty crunchy aspect, while the potatoes were cooked just right. Organic eggs with shrimps with green asparagus, dill emulsion and rye crumbs. This was my husband’s favorite, which is suprising because he is not a huge shrimp guy. All were awesome. In the deli, they also have a good selection of chilled beer, wines and soda to have while dining and also some for purchase to go.

Scandinavians love their smørrebrød(open-faced sandwich), both simple and elegant ones. Aamanns takes this to a gourmet form, while remaining truly Danish — sild(herring), ost(danish cheese), tartarmad(raw beef). Each one is made with such delicate care that you have to restrain yourself for a minute to admire its artistry. The combinations are exciting yet it never feels overreaching its roots. Truly an exemplary New Nordic cuisine. I had(1) Icelandic herring with thin slice of apples and crème fraîche,(2) beef tartare with tarragon jam and almonds, and(3) blue cheese with jellied plums and hazelnuts. Each one is decorated with different greens and ornaments to give great individuality while keeping a clean flavor. The winner of the three smørrebrøds is the blue cheese! If there is one complaint, it’s the rye bread itself — the backbone of the smørrebrød — which I felt is about 95% right, just a tad too tough on a bite. Otherwise it’s perfect. You’ll never see sandwiches the same again. Post-Aamanns, I have always put an extra effort to jazz up my office lunch sandwiches: D

The Danes are really laid back but if there’s one thing they’re serious about, it’s their smorrebrod. To go prices are slightly cheaper(about 60DKK per smorrebrod) and you can enjoy your sandwich on the beautiful grounds of Rosenborg slot, about a 10 minute walk from here, less time if you’re tall like the Danes. We tried the Icelandic smoked salmon with elderflower pickled cucumber, water cress crème and chips, an old fashioned herring on egg salad, radish and watercress, as well as the chicken salad with apples, celery with crispy chicken skin. Everything was beautifully presented, carefully packaged and tasted wonderful. Copenhagen is such a foodie town and I love how their sandwiches are a work of art.
