I don’t normally find myself out on Amager unless I’m visiting friends, but this place seems as good a reason as any to venture out to trash island. This bar is very small and cozy, looking a bit like an English pub but a little more spartan. The beers on tap are in the safe zone consisting mostly imports but also some domestic. Though I say safe, they are not at all boring; just more classic flavours like brown ales and stouts as well as IPAs. Since the bar is so small, the bartender doesn’t have a problem seeing a face that looks thirsty and quickly offering to remedy that. There is no smoking allowed(or at least as far as I know) and no TV, so this is a great place to meet your friends and have a long chat over a tall pint. If you want to take your tastebuds on an extreme beer journey, head over to Taphouse instead.

Ten years as an Amagerkaner and I didn’t dare to walk in this place until last night when Mina K and Anders A and I planned to hang out in my ‘hood. This place is situated not far from Amagerbro metro station, just on Holmbladsgade. You see the notorious Jaguar Bodega? Yeah, walk on. It’s located in the corner, you won’t miss it because of the warm light illuminating people drinking beer inside. I’d call this place half bodega and half trendy bar. Not exactly as hip as Mikropolis with blonde bartender and a cocktail menu(well, they do have some G&T menu), but not exactly a bodega with bunch of middle aged men with beer belly smoking on the corner clutching a Grøn Tuborg. There are still middle aged men with beer belly conversing on the corner, but at least this place is smoke-free and Grøn Tuborg free(eh, maybe not), but there were also some young-ish people sitting around us, so we didn’t feel that out of place and generation. The place is pleasantly lit and the tap choices are good although somewhat not much(Taphouse really ruined me for life, didn’t they? 60 beer on taps. Meh). Mina K got the Black Brain Stout which was light and breezy for a stout(perfect for Wednesday drinking) while I got the standard Fuller’s London Porter, nice and heavy. Anders A got Malt Blindness. Moving on, I found the love of my life here in this place(or should I say, the beer that I have been looking for all this time?) when Anders A offered me a sample of his bottled Organic Chocolate Stout. I gulped the rest of my London Porter and went to the bar to get one. With a price tag of 45kr, this beer is worth it. It’s so chocolate-y it feels like you’re drinking chocolate, with a bonus that you’d get tipsy after a while(at 5%, it would be after quite some time!) No really, I have been drinking a lot of chocolate stout and by far this is the best ever. At least now I know where to get it and it’s good thing this place is not that far from my hood, or is it not a good thing, really? All in all, it’s a good place to drink beer. Don’t let the middle-aged men with beer belly scare you, go in, order a pint and sit down.

Only 7 Cask awards have been given outside of the UK, 3 of them in Denmark — this place is one of them. It is a very good pub, which has a stunning range of draft, bottled and regularly changing guest beers. The place is cozy(hygge to the max), and very friendly. Would go again, and again, and again…
