Lagkagehuset Famous for breads, cakes etc. Can walk through to Tourist Information Cappuccino — hot! Pastry — kind of sweetish with almonds and orange rind — nice but not great

I hesitate to write things like, ‘The worst coffee I have ever had”. So I’ll put it this way… I can’t remember ever having worse. I’d give this bakery the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe it was stale because no one buys coffee from them — except that it was first thing in the morning. I brought three pastries — a chocolate croissant, a plain croissant, and a klobenbolle(almond-y bun) back to the hotel for my family. That all three remained mostly uneaten — particularly the chocolate croissant — was both shocking and unprecedented. They had managed to make pastries that were somehow worse than the coffee.

Choc croissants are incredible. Cinnamon glaze almond pastry is great with cappuccino in the morning.

I know everyone goes on and on about Emmery’s. And while I love Emmery’s rye bread(see previous post), when it comes to cake few can Lagkagehuset. Oh my! I don’t think I’ve ever had a bland or bad cake from Lagkagehuset, however, a few have gone into legends. E.g. during summer, the berry cakes are to die for. The original Lagkagehus was in Christianshavns, lovely situated by the canals. The closest one to me is by Cph Central Station and is quite smallish, but they still have all the basics. And lots of cake! If you’re in it for sweet treats this is a good choice!

Possibly one of the best chocolate danishes I’ve had but i have to say, it was a little too sweet for me. The danish was a little greasy for me though, but it was golden and flaky all at once. As you bite into it, the pastry is soft and crunchy. I’ve yet to try more pastries in denmark before I decide if this is a 5 star bakery for me!
