We had dinner there — with a chicken smørrebrød and herring sampler plate. From the moment we arrived, everything was 100% perfect — we we returned two days later for lunch. If you’re a herring fan, lunch at Nyhavns Færgekro is heaven. The variety and quality of the all-you-can-eat herring buffet is extraordinary. The service was impeccable, and the outdoor seating was delightful.

If you are walking around the area and you need to grab a bite this is an excellent place to do so. In comparison to other places around it is cheaper, and the dishes are very good. We tried the house dish which is composed of three mini sandwiches and they were all crafted perfectly. In addition the service is ok, and you get to sit outside enjoy the weather and the view.

My wife and I stopped here for a late breakfast. We ate outside in June with heaters and blankets. Food and coffee was excellent, service was good, wait staff was very helpful. We enjoyed it greatly.

The interior is pretty dim. My boyfriend and I got 3 smørrebrøds– salmon, meatballs, and some kind of fried fish(I forget, sorry). They were all pretty yummy! But Danish servings are rather small and we asked for more bread. The waiter brought a whole basket of rye bread for free which was amazing. The service was super friendly, maybe a little on the slower side.

We had planned to eat in the Nyhavn area that day and just randomly chose this spot. It seemed like the herring buffet was the most popular menu option here, but we weren’t interested. One friend got the hot smoked salmon salad while my other friend and I split a couple of smorrebrod. We ordered the Danish meatballs, pâté, smoked salmon and the egg and shrimps. It was a good thing that we split them because the Danish meatballs and the pâté were definitely on the heavy side, while the smoked salmon and egg and shrimps were much lighter. Service was a bit slow, but they were very busy due to the lunch rush. They were helpful when we asked them for directions though. Everything was good and we were all satisfied with our food. If you’re in the area, I would recommend them as an option for lunch or dinner. =)

The Herring buffet was flavorful. Locals and tourist very welcome. The staff was very friendly. Make sure you try every different kind of Herring. They are we uniquely tasty. The cooked fish left under the heat lamp was understandably a little dry but not to the point where the flavor was drained away. The buffet was refreshingly simple with the different types of herring and a couple simple complimentary starches. Its worth a stop if your in town for a short time.

We had a sirloin steak and a grilled salmon both with potatoes(grilled and boiled) and sauce. The food is very delicious, we are frequently eating here and the herrings are particularly good as well for people looking for local food. The atmosphere is as good inside as it is outside. The terrace is really appreciable when the weather is nice enough right by the canal. The only reason why I’m not putting 5 stars is the price. 70 € for just 2 main courses and 2 drinks is way too much expensive.

We had lunch here while visiting Nyhavn. The atmosphere is wonderful and the place was loaded with customers. There was a herring buffet going on which I gather they do everyday. However, I had a roast beef smorrebrod as that is so Danish. My wife had onion soup, but it was not French onion soup. She said it was absolutely delicious. She has never had onion soup like it before or since. My smorrebrod was really, really fresh. Service was great, friendly and helpful. I ordered in Danish, but almost all Danes speak English beautifully. They speak it better than most Americans and that is not an exaggeration. Our meal for two with tip was the equivalent of about $ 45.00. The only drawback was tap water for which they charged the equivalent of $ 5.00.This, however, is a restaurant choice you will not regret unless you just hate Danish fare. Do not expect to find the absolutely best food here, though. It is a good pick when visiting Nyhavn.

Ahhhh I wanted this to be better than it really was. Færgekro has a great location, lots of outside tables with good umbrella coverage to save you from the sun, and adorable waitresses in matching printed dresses and braided hair. But while the food was good, it wasn’t really remarkable. This was my «big money» meal in Copenhagen(as if the other ones weren’t also plenty expensive). I wanted to eat outside in Nyhavn, so I kind of fudged between a few different review sites(sorry Unilocal, but you’re not the best source for international reviews) and selected this guy. I started with the smoked salmon. Very large helping, with good toasted bread, lots of capers, very little onion(a plus for me) and some hard boiled egg. For variety, there was also a shaved manchego-y cheese, which was good but pretty overpowering, given that the salmon was pretty mild. I still enjoyed the combo, and A for effort. Finally, the lamb crowns, which was kind of unremarkable. It came out a shade south of medium, which is fine, but didn’t have anything really… going on. Smallish serving, and a little bit of waste, which made it smaller. No seasoning or other things going on to really set it apart. There was a sweet pepper and tomato relish underneath the lamb, but that didn’t really knock this out of the park. The wait staff was friendly and quick in addtion to being I-want-to-pinch-your-cheecks adorable. English menus were no problem. However, if I had to eat in Nyhavn again, I would probably pick somewhere else, just for variety.

Nyhavns Færgekro offered us an expensive but pleasant meal right in Nyhavn, in a cosy garden-level basement. While the place was bustling, it felt intimate. And while the food was expensive, it was good. Several bites had me Mming. So why three stars? I just wasn’t wowed, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was eating in a tourist trap. Still, I appreciated the menu with English on it. And I especially appreciated the ambiance. If you end up here, you’ll enjoy a fine meal. But you needn’t go out of your way to eat here.

Traditional danish food, in a really great location. But not impressive. compared to the price. The staff was nice and had traditional clothes on.

Great location on the canal. Very good authentic Danish food. I felt the quality was very good for the value. I would recommend if looking for the Danish authentic meal, but nothing to go our of your way for. Service was great.

A nice spot on Nyhavn serving Smorrebrod. I had smoked salmon, and it was very good. This was our first lunch in Copenhagen, and we were welcomed and well fed.

Right at the heart of Nyhavn, where nice restaurants are lined one after the other, Færgekro offers a limited, but excellent menu of traditional Danish fare and very friendly services, with beautiful waitresses clad also the traditional way. Although this place most is known for the smørrebrød, we were here for dinner. My salad was perfect, fresh and nutty, and my companion really enjoyed his grilled salmon. The prices are reasonable, the service is good and the food’s nice. What’s not to like about it?
