When in Copenhagen — you must have at least one pølser from a food cart. They are all over town and somewhat of a national obsession. As an American I associate hot dogs with baseball games and summer, but living in Denmark has shifted my perception — a well-topped pølser is an any time of year treat. Pølsekompaniet is a fancier hotdog food cart that the average around town and worth a try if near Torvehallerne market. They also have a location at CPH Street Food at Papirøen if out there. The pølsers that we tried were more of a sausage consistency than traditional hot dog in my opinion. I had the Nordic and my husband had the Dansk — both a work of art. The Nordic is tangy topped with horseradish sauce and bacon crumbles and cabbage — a delicious combination. The classic Dansk has fried onions and beautifully pickled cucumbers sliced thin over a traditional Danish remoulade sauce — also perfectly balanced. 40DKK is a little more than other pølser carts, but worth it.

I had two«Red Devils», they were really good, the spot only has and I’m assuming, only four types of dogs, so don’t expect various choices. The place is a bit of a challenge to find if you’re a tourist(like me) and if you’re relying on your smart phone GPS, the gps tends to throw one a bit off where it really is. It’s not a food truck, basically is a kiosk, small, does not have any tables but it’s conveniently located within this plaza where other restaurants are located and there are tables with seats to sit there and eat. Price are like anything that’s considered street food, not too bad, they do take credit cards and for all you Danish challenged people, the guy attending the places does speak English.

Firstly, I’m a tourist from Seattle. Just to give some background. I thought that I’d be eating hot dogs and bratwurst in Berlin(which I did), but these hot dogs stood out to me the most! During my vacation research, it said that these organic hotdogs in Copenhagen were not to be missed, so when I saw the little food truck outside of Torvehallerne, I was really excited.(Full disclosure: I don’t really know what«organic hotdogs» means…) My friends and I got three to share: the original(klassisk dansk), red devil, and nordisk hotdog. They were all good, but I really enjoyed the red devil. Their pickled toppings were really good! I would definitely recommend eating here. They’re not that big though so I’d think of it more as a snack – go back inside Torvehallerne and get something extra from the other excellent good stalls if it’s going to be your meal!
