I recently visited Copenhagen with girlfriends and we had made a reservation at Formel B. Let me just say I can’t wait to return. Excellent dishes, delicious, and service was impeccable.

Three stars at best. Two because they messed up on three out of five entrees. The chef had a heavy hand with the sea salt and over salted the food. And I love salty food. It was gross and really messed up. It was like being presented the most delicious thing and then taking bites of a salt lick and then paying for it… it was a bummer considering I had high expectations. I didn’t say anything hoping it was just a mistake but it kept happening dish after dish. Finally when I said something, our waitress which was so so did nothing. We received also no dessert, small candies of palate cleanser… maybe they didn’t like my honest critique. At all the fine dining restaurants I have been to there is always something extra of lovely that is presented at the end of our meal. The food was trite and the staff did just enough to get by… long waits in between courses. Really was a bummer I wasted a one of my meals here.

As I think of Christmas in its classic opulence and sumptuous celebrations, I think of the meals I’ve had at formel B. From the utter simple beauty of the deliciously charred bread and branded butter, to the tableware, to the plates, I’ve learned to admire formel B and love it as one of my favorite restaurants. Even the bread and butter as it arrives table side are works of art– the charred edges of the bread reminiscent of a Tarkovsky landscape, the butter lush in its purity. The progression of plate after genius plate to dessert to the ending coffee service and after dinner drinks, you feel you’ve come to formel B to celebrate and enjoy the newness of food creations here, yet you are convinced that these dishes evolved from classic preparations. With coffee service, you also get a sweets gift from the pastry chef, so if you’re full, dessert is not necessary. Desserts however are unique here so you may wanna tempt yourself a togo option. The ambience at formel B is homey contemporary Danish, candles by windows and tables(candles are hygge in Danmark). I loved the layout of the restaurant. Service is super attentive, eyes-behind-the-head attentive. A meal here spans 2 – 3 hours of pure enjoyment, the staff gracious if you indulge them in conversation; otherwise their goal is to serve you dishes at an orchestrated moment – you feel it, it’s subtle yet determined. Silently impressed. I’ve been here just twice now and am looking forward to my 3rd and many visits after. I’ve taken photos of the plates I liked and enjoyed from my last meal here in July and March so there are 2 meals in these photos not one, LOL. I’m sure there are other restaurants that are better but for this year, formel B rocks my culinary soul. For the inventiveness and beauty of its dishes to the almost nervy taste combinations that throw me to the clouds, I feel festive and feel the abundance of life’s ingredients architected judiciously and artfully here. Merry Christmas and Happy December holidays to you and your loved ones y’all. Visits: 2 Tip: All the plates are the same price. Who does that? You pick however many you like and there is a genius wine pairing option too. The downstairs dining room is hygge, the kitchen in view. Bathroom tip: Press the button, door opens, Shhhhh LOL

Top notch food and service with a more boisterous atmosphere. The menu included a selection of about 15 smaller plates(150−350DKK each) or a 5 course pre– selected menu. For two people we shared 6 plates plus a dessert each which was plenty of food(along with one complimentary amuse-bouche & bread). Our favorite savory dish was the egg yolk with ham and truffles. And their Buckthorn surprise dessert was memorable for both its appearance and taste. Service-wise the experience was perfect. We started with just a drink menu for a pre dinner drink and then experienced nice timing of the various dishes with explanations. The atmosphere was the only area where I wasn’t totally impressed. The entry was cramped and awkward while we waited to be shown to our table. The dining area is nicely decorated, but the tables are very close and the volume is rather loud. In total we paid around 2400DKK for two with lots of food, champagne to start, a bottle of wine and finished with coffee. Overall, spectacular food and service with an atmosphere best suited for groups. If money were no object I’d be back regularly, but at that price it will have to be for special occasions.

We had a late night dinner here, sat next to the kitchen, and it was an excellent experience. The plates are meant for sharing which is uncommon but great for this price level. Everything we tried was delicious, service was very attentive, and pleasant. They do add the credit card fee to your check(common in Copenhagen), but tips is included. We ended up with a very reasonably priced Michelin star experience.

So I will summarize this by saying that the food here is 4 stars and the service brought it down to a 3. Food here is great, very good. However, missing the intangibles that make it 5 stars. Standouts included the cabbage with morels, the rhubarb ceviche(!!!), the danish strawberries dessert, the cheese plate and the veal. The rhubarb ceviche was ridiculously good, have never seen fish and rhubarb combined with this range of flavor. The cheese plate is under dessert but we asked for it to start. Cheese and honey selection was pristine however the rye bread they brought out was insanely good as well. Possibly our favorite thing on the menu! The veal was extremely soft, broke apart like butter and the accompanying turbot was the perfect complement. The other plates we had were good(beef tartare, langoustines) but not standouts compared to other restaurants in this price range and reputation. Service was quite strange and slow. Our bread bowl was brought out very late, after our first course! The first wine pour was quite small, which at this price point was also strange. Also when we asked for dessert, we received coffee about 8 minutes after we finished dessert. Maybe its a cultural thing but usually people like coffee with dessert, not close to 10 minutes after dessert. They also charged 55 kroner PERWATERREFILL. Uh, what? Very slow to get everything as well. Kind of confusing as all the reviews say service was great but I disagreed. With the other establishments in CPH I would be hard pressed to recommend this over others.

Highly recommended and a must go if you are in town. 130DKK for each of the small dishes on the menu. We tried almost every one between the five of us. From presentation to taste, each is equally creative, delicious and just the right portion. 3 or 4 selection will be a fair amount of food for most. Don’t forget to leave room for the desserts. If you are not sitting next to the glass wall of the kitchen, do stop by and take a look as your food is plated. Most interesting. Staff is friendly and attentive. A memorable experience.

We don’t like this place at all. Service is bad and food is awfully. We ordered all dishes on the meue(12 in total) and none of them taste good(very very salty and sour) What made us mad is the service. The waitress just get the card from me without asking me. And throw back the my card and pen… Gosh

Well worth the value and price for a meal. Another top notch restaurant that is worth a visit with around 20 dishes to choose from but of course you want it all. I had about four plus dessert and I was stuffed. Service was friendly, but on one occasion gave me «they are all good, depends what you like…» answers when I asked for recommendations. Although they weren’t rude, it might just be my personal preference for a waiter to just take charge in a situation like this and act as a guide. Overall can’t really go wrong with the choices here, again some were a lot better than other dishes, but I was highly satisfied with all my choices including the dessert.

Absolutely wonderful. The service was unparalleled and the food couldn’t have been better. I was with a party of seven so we ordered many different dishes. I ordered the salted cod and the beef and really enjoyed them. I highly recommend enjoying a wonderful evening at Formel B!

One of the best dining experiences of our trip. Food was well prepared and service was good. The menu we had included the following: Ceviche Caviar with peas Lobster gazpacho Beef tartar Potato compote Rack of beef Sea buckthorn dessert The Sea Buckthorn was the best. A little sour but not too much. Apparently it’s poisonous if not cooked properly. Beef was really tender. We were originally seated by the bathroom but asked to move by the window. They were very accommodating. Overall, an excellent and also affordable meal.

We had the most amazing experience here at formel b! The service was a slow start, but they were able to recover once the food had been ordered. The server recommended us to order 4 – 5 dishes and we are not very big eaters so we got 4 dishes each, which I felt was perfect and almost too much food. Dish after dish, it was near perfection every time. In total, we got 8 different dishes and I have to say I was impressed with the execution. This restaurant gets 5 stars from me bc of the value. I walked away from dining at formel b feeling I got more than my monies worth!

Always great food. Been here several times, and every time the menu is very appealing, and I want to eat everything on it. Every dish(starter and main) is the same price, which i very much enjoy, since this makes is possible to taste several different dishes. I am very satisfied with 4 courses most times, if I am in good shape(eating wise — I am an average sized girl) I can eat 5 courses, or if you pick the caviar dish — this is of cause not that big since you get caviar — omnomnom. Best value for money in Copenhagen for years, but is now challenged by the also amazing restaurant Amass. Do not make me choose. Enough said. Remember to book a table.

Had an absolutely fantastic meal at Formel B. Presentation, flavor, creativity, and reasonable pricing were all present and accounted for at my meal, and the experience is surely worthy of a Michelin star. Not worth 5 Unilocal stars though, unfortunately. Despite the fantastic meal, I was not super impressed by the service. Particularly the part where it took us 45 minutes(not exaggerating) to get our waiters attention so we could get the bill. It was late in the evening(about 11pm) and we got the impression that we had been totally forgotten about as the staff went about their closing duties. I like to give the benefit of the doubt that this is not a common occurrence, but it definitely wasn’t the ending to such a great meal I had hoped for.

Food was ambitious, but much better than other Copenhagen restaurants(not saying much). Maybe overdoing it on the sheer number of ingredients… did I really need the frozen yucca on my salted caramel??? Others said the service was good, but my luck of this draw wasn’t good(at least by my standards). The waitress interrupted me while I was talking with guests, and didn’t take my wine order until after the food order. I probably won’t go back unless I have to. OK, but not worth a Michelin star.

Loved this place — best of the michelin starred places we tried in CPH. Nice décor, relaxed, but great food and service. We really liked the concept of small dishes(if i had my choice, i would always order 3 entrees instead of the standard entrée and main so i get to try 3 different dishes instead of just 2 and still have room for dessert :) We had the salmon tartar, the salted cod, salted scallops, smoked deer, monkfish, pork, and another hot deer dish — so got to try lots of different things. It was amazing! Everything had great delicate flavours, beautiful presentation and the service was friendly, knowledgeable but not intrusive. We also had the sommelier match our wines to the food. For dessert we had the lemon foam as we were too full for anything else, and we still had to fit in the macaroon petit fours with our coffee. Worth the walk to the other end of Vesterbrogade… but get a cab back when you’re full and in a Scandi-food coma :) Highly recommend!

Having been the victim of Copenhagen’s awful bus system(clean but not on time or completely absent) we walked down Vesterbrogade from CIty Hall. Our Captain from AOC a few nights prior Sheila, was moving here and her boyfriend is actually the chef of Restaurant Sletten in Humlebæk. That small world association would continue here as our server Patrick worked at Søllerød Kro for Jan Restorff and was the housemate of Henrik our Captain/Sommelier there for lunch the next day. Crazy right? The walk down Vesterbrogade was about 30 min and we were decently hungry when we got there. We were seated in the main lower section to the left of the entry way. It seems there’s an upstairs by the doorway, a slight downstairs and then another upstairs as you keep walking through the main room. The bi level layout is interesting in a roller coaster-ish fashion. The room is sleek, modern and dimly lit. We were along the wall where there was a hige display of wine and high end spirits nearby. There is a large electronic metal door which is actually the entrance to the restrooms and it was a source of confusion for many throughout the night. You push a button and this sleek metal door slides sideways. It did honestly look like the entrance to a spaceship and many people stood staring at it not sure how to get in until noticing the elevator style button. Patrick explained the menu and concept to us which changed recently from a set menu to a build your own tasting menu from a number of courses. Looking to maximize variety we each got a number of different things and swapped half way through each course having: –Baerii Caviar with Spring Peas, Pea Ice Cream –Salted Scallops with Beetroots, Malt, Yogurt, Cherry Boullion –Slightly Smoked Salmon with White Danish Asparagus, Mayonnaise –Mackerel Escabache with Tomato Consommé, Charred Cucumber, Mint –Tartare with Grilled Danish Salad, Pickled Onions –Lobster Bisque with Pasta Puntalette, Mushrooms, Pickled Green Tomatoes –Langoustine a la Nage with Carrot, Purée, Local Danish Vegetables –West Coast Turbot with Parsley/Garlic Sauce, Braised Veal Tails –Sea Buckthorn En SUrprise –Rye Bread Porridge Ice Cream with Vanilla and Rhubard As with just about every other meal we had in Copenhagen, this was stellar. formel B does a mash of both Danish techniques and ingredients with many other styles of cuisine. It was a good change up from some of the other New Nordic focused restaurants. Patrick our Captain grew up in Denmark but his father actually lives in Utah and he makes it to the US every year. He regaled us with stories of the great Jan Restorff and how we were going to have a great time at his former employers restaurant. He even wrote to them ahead of time to let them know we were coming. He had also already me Sheila from AOC so it felt like we were already in a circle of friends. Our other server Camilla was also super charming, super cute and very fun to talk to. She gave us a brief tour of the restaurant, the wine cellar and gave us insights on the Danish food world, economy and everything we wanted to know. So well taken care of like friends. Another amazing meal and another amazing time. If you’re on a Michelin tour of Copenhagen, definitely add formel B to the list.

Love this place. Food is beyond excellent. Service equally excellent and has a very welcomed absence of the Danish restaurant ‘thing’(=breaking in to your conversation, followed by a formal sermon before each dish accompanied by pointing at the plate with a little finger). Feel, vibe and looks of the place is also excellent(especially downstairs). Priced very modestly, but imo one of the top(continental) restaurants in Copenhagen. Food style is slightly reminiscent of brasserie/osteria, but then again, not at all. Great for a romantic evening, casual dinning with friends, biz dinning and I would say, also good for dinning solo. Very tasty, very cozy, slightly(but not overly) upscale. Highly recommended.

michelin worthy. had a 4 course *danish asparagus and peas with warm egg yolk and turbot bisque –this dish was awesome. the creamy fish bisque was perfect with morel and crunchy bits *slightly smoked salmon with white danish asparagus and mayo –excellent quality and tasty. can’t go wrong with white asparagus *glazed roebuck with peas, brown butter, spring onion, and herbs but also toasted crunchy barley –also great flavor, texture, executed well, later to have similar dish ingredients at radio. *rye bread porridge ice cream with vanilla and danish rhubarbs — what made this dish very interesting was the beer flavor and almost cereal like impression with fresh strawberry and rhubarb this place was my favorite over Relae and Radio, although those were excellent as well. after dining at several of this genre, I can see the modern nordic trend with the«herb» garden components of the dishes. so you will probably see similar protein choices topped with similar herbs based on what’s in season. this is opposed to the trend of relying on bacon, pork belly, truffle oil, foie gras, iberico, too much butter, etc
