Tickets are cheaper then competitors but make sure you include the extra for luggage and meals. They don’t offer free drinks after the meals, you have to pay for them. With that said the snacks and sandwiches that they sell are very good. The airplane for international travel U. S to Denmark was a new Deamlinner and was very comfortable.

Norwegian Air? Sounds like a legitimate carrier right? Like British Air, American Air, Swiss Air right? PFFT… wrong! Some names more fitting for this airline, off the top of my head:

Sure the fares may be 40% lower than their competitors, but for that, you seem to receive:
40% less space. Their planes are essentially sardine cans. It’s 10 people to a row (3,4,3), when any other A330−200 flight would be the standard 8 (2,4,2). Consequentially, you’re completely scrunched up to your neighbor. Scandinavians aren’t exactly known for their small statures, so likely or not, a stranger’s crusty elbows and shoulders are going to be rubbing up on yours.
1000% less service. OK, the stewardesses were RUDE, full stop to EVERYONE. I don’t know if they’re getting paid minimum wage or what, but the ones on my flight would PUSH people out of the way without saying excuse me, roll their eyes, yell, and were just plain nasty. Not only that, they seemed to have a questionable command of the English tongue. I’m sorry, but English is the de facto language of aviation, you SHOULD NOT be flustered when someone speaks to you in it. Who exactly plucked these women from a brothel in Eastern Europe and gave them uniforms?
80% more weird people. This airline is the Greyhound of transatlantic travel. Everyone on the plane seemed to be disheveled, loud, and unseemly. There were babies and children everywhere! And the person next to me had an odd smell to him, like sour milk.
800% less amenities. I knew about the no wifi, no tv, no free food, no free drinks, no free snacks thing going into this. I did not realize they DID NOT PROVIDE WATER ON A TRANSATLANTIC, 10 HOUR FLIGHT. Is that even legal? Isn’t it against the Geneva Conventions? Or the Universal Declaration of Human Rights? Water was only available for sale if you were able to drag a stewardess to your seat and beg her to sell you some. I feel like if I were a bound enemy combatant being flown to or from Guantanamo Bay on a military jet I would have gotten more than I did on my Auschwitz Air flight.
This is not a legitimate airline. You are human cargo for the time that they have you, hence the price of the flight. Do not be suckered in by the fares though. This is flying at its absolutely worst.

We just got back from LAX-​Stockholm then Copenhagen-​LAX, 2 days ago. LAX-​Stockholm was on the 787 and everything was fine. Beware if you don’t pay the extra $ 89, you don’t even get a glass of water. We did pay and were fine with the meals.
BUT — they pulled the old bait and switch on us from Copenhagen-​LAX ~ the absolute WORST flight we have EVER experienced!!! Again we paid the extra $ 89 for seat ressie, food, baggage.
One week before the flight, I happen to check our flights and our seats were changed, 10 rows apart! I immediately went to the seating chart and found that the whole seating chart was different and not that of the 787. There were only 2 seats together available in the back row of the plane, not what we wanted. 2 days late, they switched our seats again, about 20 rows apart. Mind you, we NEVER received any email that our seats were changed either time. I switched them back again, hoping to get better seats in the airport. No such luck.
When we arrived at the airport, it was mass confusion, kept changing gates, and Norwegian employees were not even manned at the gates. Then found out we were flying on Euro Atlantic Airways, never heard of them. The plane was dirty, the flight crew lazy, and food disgusting, which we paid the extra $ 89. We couldn’t eat their formed and cubed ‘chicken’. Every person on the plane got the gross meal whether they paid for it or not.
So of all the ‘good’ things Norwegian promotes ~ 787, seat ressies, 2 meals. and baggage ~ we ended up getting one, paying the extra $ 89 to check our bag!
Beware, I have since found this is a common practice for them to overbook flights and charter these sub standard airlines to fill in. Especially in the newer markets like LAX!

Absolutely terrible. I would give this airline 0 stars if I could.
After booking a return trip with them from BKK — Oslo — JFK following a funeral in the family, we ended up trapped in Bangkok airport as the flight was canceled due to «Electrical failure». We ended up waiting over 24 hours for another flight, this time through Stockholm to New York.
Throughout the day I continued to receive texts that contradicted each other. One saying that there was no inflight entertainment and that I should bring my own, then another following right after saying that was false. Finally a few more texts that the next flight was delayed, and another text saying that previous information was false as well. The staff at the service gate were totally unhelpful as they either had no more information than me, or weren’t able to discuss it.
After over a day of waiting we were able to board another flight out. They charged us extra on A 16 HOUR FLIGHT FOR FOOD AND BLANKETS. There was an old Norwegian woman sitting next to me who was freezing and didn’t have cash on her, I ended up buying her a blanket because, you know, she’s a human being and I have a soul (wish I could say the same about the airline staff.) I’m surprised that I wasn’t charged for using the bathroom on the flight.
The final insult to injury, the instance in which I will never use this airline again (and hope they go under): After finally getting back home in NYC, I see a lovely addition to my credit statement in the form of $ 600 as they charged me for ANOTHER ticket. That’s right, because of THEIR failure in having a failed flight, I was charged for THE SECOND FLIGHT after NEVER flying the first one.
I tried to rectify this with Norwegian Air’s Customer Service, and they’re even WORSE. They lie every day I call, «Oh, we’re having trouble connecting to the refund department, call later.» Then after recalling every hour on the hour for 6 hours: «O, They’re closed now. Try tomorrow.» I’ve sent multiple emails as well, which have been also ignored.
The real hero here is my bank Chase. After having no more recourse with this airline, I contacted Chase and within 10 minutes they had taken the charge up with the merchant. Now I’m in the process of getting the charge taken off (No thanks to Norwegian Air). The funny thing is that while traveling I talked to a bunch of Norwegians on the plane and they all agreed, «Oh yeah, it’s always this bad. That’s just how it is,» with a resounding shrug. No, it’s not okay. Screw Norwegian Air, take another airline. ANY other airline. Just not this one.

Earlier this week I flew from Barcelona, Spain to Copenhagen, then onto a smaller city in Denmark for a business meeting using Norwegian Air Shuttle. These flights were arranged for me by the company I was meeting with, and though I’d never heard of Norwegian Air, the company that had arranged the flights swore by them.
I was a bit concerned when I arrived at the Barcelona airport, as the taxi driver explained that BCN had recently built a shiny new, huge terminal building and he pointed to it way off in the distance at the other side of the airport. He then explained that the terminal he was taking me to was once one of the old main terminals, which is now used by «budget» airlines such as Norwegian Air, EasyJet and RyanAir (a definite bargain basement airline known for it’s 39 Euro flights within Europe, nickel and diming of passengers and constant intrusive announcements trying to sell food, drinks and merchandise). To hear him lump RyanAir and Norwegian together made me a bit concerned. Luckily, I needn’t have worried.
The check-​in area for this and the other airlines that use this terminal at Barcelona airport is HUGE, with very little signage other than a smallish monitor screen above each check-​in counter showing the logo for the airline and destination city. Once I found the counter for Norwegian Air, check-​in was simple, fast and quite standard. The agent then sent me to the departures hall, which is a large, open area on the second floor that encompasses a corner section of this terminal building. Once in the departures area, you must pay attention to the signage, as they only list the general boarding area (M3 in this case) and don’t display the actual gate number until about 30 or 40 minutes prior to the flight. This isn’t a concern, however, as you’re already in the general area and at most only have a few hundred feet to walk to your actual departure gate.
This airline seems to operate an «all passengers/​all rows» boarding process once they begin allowing passengers to board, and it’s normal for people to start queuing up in line as soon as the gate number is announced, regardless of where their seat is located on the plane. I experienced this on both flights with this airline on this day.
Both planes I was on were 737s, were relatively brand new and in good condition with soft LED lighting and very large overhead storage bins on both sides of the plane, though as is the case with many budget airlines, the planes aren’t terribly clean, and there were lots of food crumbs on my seat on both planes when I got onboard. This airline does charge for all food and beverages (I paid 25 Danish Krone, or about $ 4.15 for a ½ liter bottle of water), but they provide free WiFi on all their flights, which is easy to connect to and actually quite fast! They also have screens that lower from the ceiling and show entertainment during the flight, but on this day I didn’t have my headphones with me and didn’t notice the attendants offering them, so I can’t comment on the entertainment or the music selection in the armrests. When I arrived at my final destination, which was a small airport in Denmark, we literally got off the plane and walked about 50 paces into the arrivals building, I bent over to tie my shoe and when I stood back up, my luggage was on the carousel waiting for me already! The baggage almost made it from the plane to the baggage claim faster than we did! One thing I did find interesting was that, even though I was flying from Spain to a few cities in Denmark and most passengers seemed to be local residents, almost all of their announcements were made in English first, and then in one of those countries’ native languages.
In reading this airlines’ magazine during one of the flights, I learned that they were once a regional carrier for SAS, then SAS canceled that contract so this airline struck out on its own. They strive to be environmentally friendly, have one of the newest/​youngest fleets of any European airline and have nearly 250 aircraft still on order, mostly from Boeing. They fly to/​from 2 cities in the USA, all over Europe and are soon expanding to Asia. One cool thing is that, each of their tail fins on every plane is painted with a different likeness of a famous Scandinavian person (poet, painter, artist, national hero, etc.)
Overall, I’m a fan of this airline, and though I’m not sure of the actual cost of the flights I took on this day, since they’ve been referred to by a few people as a «budget» airline, I’m guessing they’re quite reasonable. This, along with the fact that their planes are all new or relatively so, and they have free high speed WiFi makes this airline a definite winner in my opinion.
