Alcalá is an easily overlooked town between the tourist havens of Los Christianos and Los Americanos and the cliffs of Los Gigantes. You need to park on the main road and make your way town toward the water. Before you get there you enter a small plaza. It’s very simple and ringed with small businesses. We ate lunch at Bar Plaza and it was very nice. It’s a small, family-owned place. We had a coffee and the boys a Fanta and then we had lunch. The lunch was local grilled fish and very fresh. The staff were friendly and we sat in the sun and enjoyed the quiet of the place. After we ate, we crossed diagonally across the plaza toward the water to what turned out to be our favorite find in all our time on Tenerife — the terrace the curves around the shore beneath Calle la Muraña. The terrace has scatter lounge chairs available and large boulders ring the waterfront. Someone set a stainless steel railing to provide easy access to the water. It’s a lovely clear blue grotto and we swam for hours.
