Ca’l Tete

Un sitio muy agradable, la comida muy bien. Las ensaladas súper curradas y las empanadas las reinas de la casa claro tienen mucha variedad y están riquísimas. Para merendar os recomiendo los Tes q preparan y por supuesto el pastel de zanahoria que esta de perlas, me encanta.
La atención muy buena, todo ok.

Empanadillas argentinas suculentas, infusiones, tapeo y bocadillos como Dios manda, en especial el vegetal con queso de cabra, de aquellos que no se pueden ni cerrar: espectacular!

Ca’l Tete is Urgell’s Rekons without the crowd!
For months I’ve been frequenting Rekons, the adorable corner empanadería on Urgell. It’s boisterous, overcrowded, and you often have to wait… BUT they have the very best empanadas in town. No joke!
I was so excited to discover, then, that the very same operation has another location just a bit farther west in Sant Antoni… CA’L TETE! And *wow*! How awesome is this place?! Ca’l Tete is also on a corner, has outdoor seating in front of the café for 15 – 20 people, and a large, bright interior seating area. Of course, the interior is delineated by a giant glass case where you can take your pick among a wide variety of different pizzas, tarts, cakes, and (most importantly) EMPANADAS! Needless to say, the empanadas are (just as they are at this spot’s sister restaurant) fabulous! I particularly am a fan of the eggplant and cheese ones, though there are so many delicious (vegetarian) options that you can never really go wrong.
Indeed, speaking of vegetarianism, I always order the ½ Kilombo salad. The salad comes with a bed of greens topped with an incredibly diverse cacophony of fresh fruits and vegetables. Sometimes pineapple and tomato are served alongside white asparagus, squash, and garbanzos (as they were today). The combinations are innovative, exciting, and never the same. I always feel like I’ve got my nutritional needs covered, though: there’s always a little (delicious) bit of every type of veggie. And, coupled with a drink and two empanadas, the deal is hard to beat.
Perhaps what I like most about Ca’l Tete is that it has all of these wonderful culinary options served with absolutely heartwarming customer service. This is a place that belongs in the neighborhood: the staff is extremely friendly and it’s clear that many a regular stop in at this joint. Awesome. I’ll be back to Ca’l Tete: it may well be my new favorite spot in Sant Antoni :)

Otro local de barrio que se apunta a la moda de las famosas ‘empanadillas argentinas’ por encargo, que nadie tiene muy claro de donde provienen pero todo el mundo alaba. Ca’l tete también es conocido por ofrecer una amplia gama de tes que combinan multitud de ingredientes distintos. Algunos son realmente interesantes, pero no por ello, sabrosos. Personalmente, no me considero muy amigo de esta bebida, un servidor prefiere otro tipo de hierbas…
El sitio es más bien pequeño y humilde, sin embargo, posee ese aire mediterráneo y bohemio que a los de aquí nos resulta tan encantador. Al fondo encontramos un diminuto y modesto salón con cuatro mesas apretujadas. Hay quien se atreve a llamarlo «acogedor».
En cuanto a la comida, nada que objetar. Platos sencillos y de fácil elaboración. Ensaladas, platos combinados, bocadillos, etc. Se comenta que su pastel de zanahoria es sublime, después de probarlo opino que es un poco exagerado. El servicio es amable y atento pero algo despistado. Si eliges sentarte en la terraza, conseguir que te atiendan se convertirá en una odisea.
Por último, su minúsculo e improvisado aseo, merece una mención especial. Si tienes sobrepeso o mides más de 1,90, ni te acerques. Si eres hombre y tienes la fortuna o la desgracia de poder utilizarlo, deberás orinar de costado y apuntar procurando no salirte de los límites establecidos. Y después de semejante maniobra, te percatarás de la inexistencia de jabón y de papel, así que volverás a tu mesa y seguirás con tu bocata como si nada. Ya se sabe, lo que no mata, engorda.

The best to get here are: the massive goat cheese sandwich on great baguette, home made carrot cake or one of the authentic empanadas.
