Amazing brunch place near the Arch de Triumph. We came twice– the food is amazing and he service with excellent. We had a cappuccino– really good and a croissant and of course the fresh squeezed orange juice. The second time we had the yogurt with granola and fresh fruits and my husband order the bread with tomatoes– pan de coca — the best in the city! Highly recommended for a morning relax and pretty reasonable price.

Pues fui a este local a tomar un café el otro día pero había estado hace unos dos meses o así.
En la anterior ocasión fue por una cena para un cumpleaños, realmente me parece un poco caro para la cantidad de comida que ponían pero si es cierto que estaba todo muy rico. Pero tanto yo como mis amigos nos quedamos con esa sensación de poca cantidad para lo caro que es.
El local es muy bonito y la verdad que tiene un aire romántico vintage diría yo…
Yo por el precio no volvería pero realmente es muy bonito.
Luego en su momento también tenemos algunos problemas porque la comida tardo un poco en salir, algunos platos salían antes que otros entonces había personas que tenían que esperar por su plato esto fue un poco desastre en ese sentido. Nos comentaron que había un problema en la cocina porque había alguien que se había puesto enfermo y había menos personal, de todos modos tampoco nos invitaron a nada por el retraso y bueno sólo fue pues pedir disculpas. De todas formas espero que vuestra experiencia sea un poco mejor que la mía que la podáis disfrutar de verdad así que un saludo y buen provecho a tod@s!!!

I Went there with a friend for menu del día, first it was really expensive 15 € for what they offer with small portions as my friend took menu del día, I decided to choose something a la carte, tuna burger 12 € and it was a tiny portion that it is not enough for a kid,
I ended up paying like 40 € and we left the restaurant hungry

Decepción. Desgraciadamente Elsa Y Fred combina 3 elementos que en Barcelona se encuentran frecuentemente combinados:
Precios elevados-​Lugar encantador (aunque ya cansa la estética por repetitiva) — Calidad pobre.
Los 3 elementos son subjetivos, así que es posible que haya gente que no lo encuentre tan caro ni tan escaso de calidad, ni tan siquiera bonito. Desde mi punto de vista, el peor brunch que me he tomado desde que se que uno puede zamparse huevos, tostadas, frijoles, salmón o bacon al mediodia y llamarlo brunch.
Fuimos con una predisposición muy positiva pero plato a plato nos iban desencantando. Para empezar los huevos benedictos con salmón. El clásico de los clásicos del brunch decepcionante en esta ocasión. Escaso y soso a más no poder. Una especie de tapita insípida con el huevo a punto de estar cuajado y terminar por destrozar el plato del todo. Curiosamente, en el plato lo que más había era alfalfa.
El bagel es un pan que corre el riesgo de quedar atascado en la garganta como no lo hagas jugoso. Si no sobraron trozos de bagel es porque estabamos tan hambrientos como para mojar el bagel en el huevo sobrante de los benedictos, cosa que no fue fácil. Suerte que el plato era de pizarra porque si no hubiéramos rallado el plato buscando restos de yema.
Elsa y Fred podía haber remontado con los postres. 2 decepciones y un ok. El ok para el Carrot Cake. Correcto, buen sabor y fresco.
El bizcocho de limón lo rebautizamos como ladrillo de limón y el crumble de manzana un despropósito metido en un vaso de mermelada.
Como el servicio fue bueno, el café también, admiten perros y el lugar es agradable le regalo una estrella. No es recomendable. Muchos mejores sitios alrededor para hacer Brunch. El Picnic está demasiado cerca.

La perfección está en los detalles.
Este sábado tuvimos la suerte de encontrarnos este establecimiento por casualidad, buscando por internet las míticas listas de las mejores patatas bravas de Barcelona, ¡y que bien!
Desde el momento que ponéis los pies dentro del lugar os daïs cuenta de cómo funcionan las cosas ahí: dedicación al 100% hasta el último detalle, desde una decoración impecable, un ambiente muy tranquilo (pese a estar siempre a tope) y un servicio muy dedicado.
Pero vamos a lo importante: ¡las tapas! Probamos las croquetas de setas, el sashimi de salmón y por supuesto las bravas, todo ello acompañado de unas copas; y vuelta al concepto de los detalles: una presentación impecable, que hacía que incluso unas simples patatas bravas entrasen por los ojos. ¡Y menos mal! Porque no sólo la presentación era buena, pues todas las tapas estaban exquisitas; las bravas, de corte grueso, iban acompañadas de una salsa espectacular (nada de salsa rosa); las croquetas riquísimas, al igual que el sashimi.
Finalmente añadir que el precio es relativamente asequible si tenemos en cuenta la calidad de sus productos (unos 5 euros por tapa).
En definitiva, se trata de un sitio excelente para ir a tomar unas tapas si estás por el born/​ciutadella. Totalmente recomendado.

Uno de mis lugares favoritos de toooda Barcelona. Si alguien no sabe donde ir, siempre recomiendo Elsa y Fred porque cenar allí es esplendido. Muy romántico para ir en pareja. Genial para tomar unas copas y cenar con las amigas. Tranquilo lo suficiente para tomar y té y comer un carrot cake de merienda. Y lo suficientemente atractivo para llevar a esos conocidos que vienen a Barcelona unos días a visitar y quieren comer ricas tapas sin ser timados.
Recomiendo hacer reserva antes de ir porque siempre está lleno. Las tapas de Elsa y Fred son las típicas tapas de toda la vida pero repensadas con un toque más elegante y vanguardista.
Mis recomendaciones: patatas bravas, la salsa está hecha con ñoras que es algo que le da un toque delicioso a la salsa. Pulpo a la gallega, siempre me deja sin palabras! Exquisito! Chipirones al grill con verdura, un plato que gracias al clima de Barcelona nunca pasa de temporada. Pan de cristal con tomate, siempre un MUST cuando se come tapas por Catalunya. Sashimi de salmón encima de endivias, fresco y ligero. Y por último, mejillones al vapor: un clásico que logran bastante bien y te deja con ganas de más!

Situado en uno de los barrios más de moda de Barcelona el Born, encontramos este acogedor bar de luz tenue y ambiente cosmopolita.
La carta breve y deliciosa, en su mayoría tapas de recetas típicas españolas con toques fusión, sus bravas destacan entre las mejores de Barcelona.
Si además eres de postres, te recomiendo la tarta de queso y el crumble de manzana, espectacular!
Unos 25 € por persona aprox, buenísima carta de vinos!
Volveré!

I found this place in the neighborhood from a recommendation from a friend. From the first time my family and I stepped in we felt wanted and welcomed. They have a great menu with a nice variety of items. I’ve eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner and have been happy with all of it. They have lovely décor with very friendly staff.
They are open all the time. Honestly don’t know how they do it. I can’t recommend this place enough. This is what a restaurant should be. Outside dining is small but indoor seating is plentiful. Don’t take my word for it, go find out for yourself but make reservations for popular dining hours. They do fill up.

This place was very cute and cozy. We ordered the patatas bravas, anchovies, cep croquettes, tomato bread and apple crumble for dessert. Food was good (not great) and a bit pricey for the quality.

Tapas in Barcelona is ubiquitous. Like coffee in Seattle, there’s a lot to chose from, which makes it very easy to have an average to bad experience and not know any better. And yet there are enough good ones that this should never happen. If you try enough tapas you will discover that most are forgettable and not worth your time. And while there are several that are good, a very few will clearly stand out. Elsa Y Fed is among the latter. It is simply outstanding and worth a visit on any trip to Barcelona. The restaurant is quaint and inviting; more like someone’s living room with a bar inside than a restaurant. And this atmosphere combined with understated and excellent service (though very Spanish) along with delicious food and great bar selection will make your time intoxicating and delightful. Go, while away the hours, and allow yourself the pleasure of relaxing over a wonderful meal in one of the great cities in the world. You won’t be disappointed. And afterwards, wander through the nearby Parc de la Ciutadell. It will make for a terrific day.
Oh, and the word is out on this place. So make reservations, or arrive between lunch and dinner, because otherwise you will wait :) Though even if you do, it is worth it.

This place became a favorite of mine on my visit to Barcelona. Good tapas and sandwiches.

This place is good!..
On a Monday night this place was packed, so we were seated at the bar — which was great. The waitresses were friendly and service-​minded in a cool and down to earth way. The tapas was great and innovative and the prices were more than okay. We also had red wine and after-​dinner drinks.
We recommend this place to visit in El Born.

My boyfriend and I went to here on our last night in Barcelona and this place was wonderful. We had such great service by a woman who seems like the owner but I can’t be sure. Everything was delicious, and it was suggested by a local, so the crowd was a good mix of people. Definitely one of my favorite places we went in Barcelona for dinner.

De type bistrot on y mange très bien… Tout ce qu’on y a mangé était très bon. Nous y sommes venus deux soirs et également pour un petit déjeuner. J’ai adoré le poulpe, les patatas bravas, le tartare de thon. Petit plus une des serveuses parle français.

We found Elsa Y Fred through Foursquare, the service and food were good and prices were reasonable. We ordered the sangria and a number of different tapas and finished the meal off with dessert. Overall a good experience, but nothing I’d go out of my way for.

We had no reservation and the inside was packed but we were able to sit outside. The food was wonderful and went well with a Catalan white wine our server recommended. We had the pumpkin ravioli, patatas bravas, salmon sashimi on endives, and a green salad with fried Brie. Dessert was an Espuma Crème de Catalan, amazing. Stuffed, but oh so content! We’d go back again!

Buen ambiente y hemos comido bien, la próxima vez probaré uno de los sillones que tienen pinta de cómodos.

We dined in this Gastrobar located behind a small square in a calm street on a Saturday night (we hadn’t made a reservation).
The manager found us a table very quickly and we were served in only a few minutes.
Every tapas was good, original, and a great size to share.
We recommend the patatas bravas, the jamon iberico, the pimientos de padrón (little green peppers you see everywhere in Spain) and our favorite: the pumpkin ravioli with dried tomatoes.
For dessert, they are all modern: the destructed crumble was my favorite and the cheesecake was also very good.
Everything is homemade. Smiley staff (some members speak English). Cool place that changes from all the traditional tapas bars.

This restaurant was around the corner from our hotel, and came highly recommended from the hotel staff. Thank goodness we followed their advice! Such a cute little place– casual but elegant décor. There is minimal seating for an intimate feel, tables can be hard to come by but worth the wait. We ordered a variety of tapas and loved everything– I particularly enjoyed the tuna tartar. The wine was also excellent. Staff was great and were very helpful with recommendations for food and drink. This restaurant is located close to the Arc de Triomfe.

Homey atmosphere, wonderful service, and great food at this charming restaurant in the northeast Born neighborhood! Recommended by our hosts at the Pillow Rooms boutique hotel, we were amply rewarded with an excellent dining experience for our last night in Barcelona. Highlights include the strawberry mojito, followed by an excellent local red wine, potatoes bravas, pumpkin ravioli, and special ice cream. We loved it all!

We really enjoyed our visit to Elsa y Fred. We went there after I found it on Time Out Barcelona in an article about patatas bravas which I am obsessed with. I am very glad we did walk over there after El Xampanyet.
We had the house cava which was nice and dry. Loved the pan con tomat (the bread with tomato) which was crisp and flavourful. The bravas are indeed very good and a bit different to most. The porcini (cep) croquettes were fun but full on!

Tired of the pork heavy choices in Madrid and craving to try some really good patatas bravas I found this place. It was listed as one of the best patats bravas in Barcelona in a TimeOut article so myself and my friend decided to give it a try.
It is located close to the park and has a great view of Arc de Triomf, the place itself looks like a charming apartment combined with a coffee place and a bar. It is cozy and inviting and even has a fireplace. We were greeted once we walked in and taken to a table pretty quickly, the service here was better than in other place in Barcelona from the get go.
The menu is not very extensive but offers just enough (great) choices. We ended up sharing the patatats bravas of course, the crispy brie salad and the pumpkin ravioli.
The pumpkin ravioli was the least impressive item we ordered but crispy brie salad was excellent. As for the main reason why we came to this place, the patats bravas, it was definitely the best patatsas bravas dish I have ever tasted. The creamy aioli was to die for as I could have eaten that on its own.
It was sunny outside and we had a table with a street view, it was also our last day in Barcelona and it couldn’t have been spent any better

La verdad que un buen sitio para ir con tu pareja o amigos en donde encontraras un sitio con una decoración muy agradable que te hará sentirte como en casa, unido a una buena atención por parte de las camarerás y en general buena comida. Nosotros probamos las patatas bravas, calamares y ensaláda y la verdadas que todo bastante rico, bien preparado y bien presentado. También tiene buena pinta para tomar algo.

This might be the best meal I have ever had. Barcelona is food, and Elsa Y Fred defines this.
If you want to do tapas here, you have to make reservations in advance. We went in on a Wednesday night around 5 (way earlier than most people do dinner!) and afterwards we saw a flood of people try to walk-​in and were turned away.
Ok, here is a complete list of the goodness that we ordered:
1. Sangria – GET IT! So sweet it’s like drinking juice. They even let you keep the bottle as a souvenir.
2. Patatas bravas — amazingly roasted potatoes with a wonderful seasoned sauce. The best potatoes I have had in my life – our table ordered this three times.
3. Coca bread with tomato paired with the plate of Iberian ham — I honestly really don’t need to explain this one. Just get it. So much ham, but you can never have too much.
4. Green salad with crispy brie and tomato jam — the brie was on point. Great option for vegetarians.
5. Octopus dish (not sure if this was just a special or on the menu) — the squid was very well-​cooked and fresh! Gotta get seafood in Barca.
6. Pumpkin ravioli — LOVE pumpkin, LOVE ravioli. My friends weren’t the biggest fans, but I could’ve eaten just this for a meal. Very light but also packed with flavor. The cheese really complements the pumpkin.
7. Mushroom risotto flavored with white truffle — This was my friends’ favorite dish! They pour the cream of mushroom on top of the plate in front of you. Excellent.
This has been my favorite meal while abroad, and possibly in life. GO TO THIS PLACE IF YOU ARE IN BARCELONA! You will not regret it.

Nosotros nos dejamos llevar por los buenos comentarios sobre el brunch y aunque el local está bien, a nosotros nos fue fue terrible.
Más de media hora para preparar unos huevos con bacon. Era medio día y ya se había agotado el jugo de naranja. Media hora después de haber ordenado unos cruasanes nos dicen que también estaban agotados (a otra persona le ocurrió lo mismo, después que a nosotros)…
En fin! De brunch no tenía nada y el servicio bastante malo. Ni volvemos ni lo recomendamos. Puede que de tapas sea mejor, pero ya no seré yo quien se los cuente.

Great tapas. Was actually surprised that we liked everything we ordered. Items that are a must are the patatas bravas, salad with brie, croquetas, and the best of them all is the bull’s tail hamburger… One of the best I’ve tried.

Muy cuco, bonita decoración, tranquilo para poder charlar sin tener que estar gritando. Ideal para ir con la pareja o con un par de amigos/​as. Sí que es verdad que están encima tuyo, pero tampoco en exceso. El servicio es correcto. No es precisamente barato pero tampoco demasiado caro, digamos que es de esos sitios para ir de vez en cuando para una cena tranquila. Las croquetas de ceps están impresionantemente buenas, a 1,2 € la unidad, no es caro, pero son pequeñitas. Las bravas… Una caricia, bravas bravas no son porque no pican prácticamente nada, pero para ser una tapa de patatas aliñadas está buenas.
No está ubicado en una calle de mucho paso, a lo mejor por eso es tan tranquilo y agradable. Vale la pena ir aunque sea una vez.

Lugar bonito con precios elevados para lo que ofrecen. Para empezar están demasiado encima del cliente, es decir no te has sentado y ya están preguntándote que deseas. Acabas de tomarte tu cerveza o comer algo, ya te están retirando de la mesa el producto y preguntando si deseas algo más. Si quiero presión psicológica me voy a un restaurante chino, que es el sitio ideal para ello.
También comentaré las patatas «bravas»: insípidas, crudas por dentro, casi sin sal, y con algo de especias que no daban sabor, creo que eran de adorno y lo más importante no picaban nada de nada, entonces para mí deberían cambiarle el nombre en la carta y llamarlas patatas sin sal con especias de adorno o patatas insípidas con aceite. Además por un módico precio de 4,5 €. Hay gente que les gusta patatas de ese estilo, pero por favor no le llaméis patatas bravas, que la misma palabra te hace pensar en la palabra picante. Sino buscar la palabra brava en la RAE. Si no os gustan las patatas bravas os invito que visitéis este restaurante.

Fuimos a probar unas bravas con los amigos de Unilocal!
La verdad es que el local me agradó bastante, buen ambiente y sin mucho barullo, algo que me molesta particularmente. La atención me pareció correcta. Para mi gusto las bravas estaban algo crudas, personalmente como me gusta son crujientes y mas bien durillas y picantes, pero tampoco excesivamente. Estaban bien, sin más y no picaban nada. Eso si, tienen como cerveza sin alcohol, agua de Moritz, que es una de mis cervezas favoritas.
Volveré y repetiré, ya que ví alguna cosa que me llamó la atención, y espero al volver a probar, poder subir al menos una estrella más.

Es un sitio muy cuco y venía con la idea de probar unas pedazo de patatas bravas que alguien había comentado que eran muy buenas.
Lo cierto es que el ambiente es muy chulo, las camareras bastante atentas y se está muy a gusto.
Con respecto a las bravas, los Unilocalers pedimos dos veces. Las primeras, aún con una muy buena pinta, estaban algo crudas. Las segundas mucho mejor, pero en ambos casos, no picaban nada.
Me encanta probar cosas nuevas y la cocina de autor. No me importa que mezclen las salsas que se quiera (algunos les ponen mayonesa, otros allioli, laurel, hierbas provenzales…), pero unas patatas bravas tienen que cumplir, entre otros, un requisito BÁSICO: que piquen.
Al menos un poco. Algo. Lo que sea. Pero que piquen. Y estas patatas no picaban nada.
Es un sitio al que me gustará volver si paso por el barrio, aunque la próxima vez tengo claro qué no pediré. :-)
[CAT] És un lloc molt cuco i venia amb la idea de provar unes súper patates braves que algú havia comentat que eren molt bones.
La veritat és que l’ambient és molt maco, les cambreres bastant atentes i s’hi està molt a gust.
Pel que fa a les braves, els Unilocalers demanem dues vegades. Les primeres, encara amb una molt bona pinta, estaven força crues. Les segones molt millor, però en tots dos casos, no picaven gens.
M’encanta provar coses noves i la cuina d’autor. No m’importa que barregin les salses que es vulgui (alguns els posen maionesa, altres allioli, llorer, herbes provençals…), però unes patates braves han de complir, entre uns altres, un requisit BÀSIC: que piquin.
Almenys una mica. Alguna cosa. El que sigui. Però que piquin. I aquestes patates no picaven gens.
És un lloc al que m’agradarà tornar si passo pel barri, encara que la propera vegada tinc clar què no demanaré. :-)

Menu muy original y riquisimo. Excelente atencion! Atendido por los mismo dueño con recomendaciones del dia. Mi preferencia los sillones.

He ido varias veces a comer el menú del día, y la verdad es que es uno de los mejores de la zona. Los platos son originales, están muy bien presentados y la comida está muy rica.
En mi opinión, al menos en el menú, las raciones son tan grandes o pequeñas como en cualquier otro sitio. No es un restaurante para hartarte de comer, pero yo nunca me he quedado con hambre.
El servicio muy correcto y amable. Y la decoración muy chula, original y cuidada. Hay incluso una mesa con unos sofás comodísimos donde he visto varias veces a turistas echando el rato con el ordenador. Por cierto, wifi gratis.

We saw this place as we were walking to our hotel. It was right across the street from our hotel, so we made a mental note to check it out.
On Saturday night, we very stupidly didn’t think to make a reservation. When we arrived at 8pm they were fully booked, however could accommodate us if we wanted to sit at the bar.
These were great seats, and you didn’t feel in the way of the bar staff or ever the wait staff.
We ordered 5 – 6 dishes and a bottle of sangria. The food was amazing, everything was so fresh and tasty. I highly recommend ordering the tomato and tuna. It was the best dish i had during my stay at Barcelona. I’ve never had that many different types of tomato. YUmmmm.
I would highly recommend checking this place out. Its great value for money, although i would make a reservation if you intend to eat here for dinner, to avoid disappointment.

This is a lovely wee place that should be getting 4 or 5 stars, but has a couple of major flaws that bring its ranking down.
First the good. The location is great, just off the born area and it happened to be right opposite my hotel. The décor is good inside and tables at the big open doors are amazing for sitting at and watching the world go by. The brunches taste excellent, especially the egg dishes. Omelettes, scrabbled eggs, toast and eggs, etc, all cooked well and spot on flavour-​wise.
Dinner gives you a selection of great tapas. I particularly liked the pumpkin ravioli, but e everything we had was tasty.
The place is open from first thing In the morning to late at night and is always busy with a good atmosphere. Plenty of cool drink options and homemade desserts are available!
The flaws. The slowest service I have experienced in a long time. Get more staff!
The tiniest portions in Barcelona. Make sure you order extra or you will be hungry.
3 stars I am afraid, but it is lovely and if they could fix the last two issues it would be amazing.

While wondering the beautiful streets of Barcelona, we stumbled upon this lovely find for a spot to grab some food. Upon entering we thought the place was too nice for our casual attire and budget wallets. However, after examining their wine list and food, we thought we should just go for it and what a great evening it was! The space is intimate and décor is charming. It was like I was brought back into Brooklyn, NY and happily enjoyed my glass of wine as well as the live jazz. The food portion is on the smaller side, but we ate lightly that night and loved the dimly lit atmosphere. This is a cool place, a mighty cool place!

El restaurante es muy lindo por la noche y bueno para sentarse con los amigos y tomar un drink.
Otro día he ido en el almuerzo y me quedé un poco decepcionada. La comida estaba buena, pero las porciones muy pequeñas y los precios altos.

Como bar es excelente! Muy tranquilo, y unas copas muy buenas! Gran variedad de ginebras y gin tonics. Habrá que volver y probar el menú.
