Opened in 2012, the Grums is modern and clean with an on-site restaurant and small spa area in the basement. The spa is 9Euro a day for a small pool, Hammam and Sauna. The location was perfect for what we wanted: not in the middle of all the madness but close enough to walk. 10mins from La Rambla towards Parallel, just at the bottom of Montjuic with a fab little cafè right next door( ), a Lidl around the corner, various fancy restaurants one street up and plenty of bars and tapas places within 5mins strolling distance. The reception staff is friendly and helpful. Everyone we talked to had very good English. Our room was spacious(for BCN standards) but right next door to the lift. WE thought we’d see how it goes for one night and if it’s too noisy we’ll ask to change. This wasnt necessary, there was hardly any noise at all. Wifi worked well throughout the hotel. The Grums is advertised as a 4 star but to me it was more a 3 star, really. No mini-bar(but small fridge), no robes or slippers, no complimentary conditioner or body lotion. None of that is a problem if you know what you are getting. The restaurant offers a 3 course meal for dinner with a drink for 16Euro but don’t with it unless you are too wrecked to walk 5mins around the corner to get some decent food.
