this was our very first meal in barcelona and since we didn’t know where to go, we simply walked around gran via until we saw a menu that appealed to us. this place seemed to have a nice variety of tapas and wasn’t too crowded, so we decided to try it out. here’s what we ordered: +0,5 litro agua(€ 1,70): nice cold bottle of water for me +vaso de sangria(€ 5,00): glass of red sangria for hubby +ensalada del dia(€ 3,15): this was the salad of the day, and on this day, they were serving caprese salad with freshly chopped tomatoes, olives, mozzarella cheese, and basil. this cold appetizer was a great way to begin our meal, esp on this very warm day. +verduras mediterraneo(€ 6,60): these were mediterranean vegetables, lightly grilled in olive oil, with a side of dipping sauce. i wasn’t quite sure what was in the sauce, but it tasted like a tomato base with some spices in it… paired quite well with the veggies which included eggplant, peppers, and zucchini. +paella marisco(€ 9,70): this was the seafood paella, one of the main reasons we chose this restaurant, b/c they had a very reasonably priced list of paellas! although the wait for this entrée was a bit longer(which is expected since they make it from scratch), it was well worth the wait as the pan came out piping hot. i enjoyed my saffron rice dish with vegetables and assorted seafood. the serving was generous and we definitely struggled in our attempt to finish every last bite. i especially loved the burnt pieces of rice that stuck to the paella pan! hands down, my favourite dish of the evening! service was average and we were pleased that our waiter spoke a bit of english which made it easier to order and communicate with him. food was brought out promptly as was the bill at the conclusion of the meal. the total? € 26,15(including vat) not bad for a hearty dinner for two. i wish i had room for dessert, but my belly was too full. but now i have another reason to return, to try some of the scrumptious cakes and tarts that i saw in their dessert display case!

We stopped at Guito in the Eixample district for a quick breakfast and sat at the bar. I had a a café con leche(basically a café latte) and a croissant, and my boyfriend had a cappucino and a bocadillo(sandwich) with jamon iberico. I really enjoyed my breakfast — the coffee was AMAZING and the croissant was slightly sweet! My boyfriend said that the bocadillo bread was pretty tough but the jamon was excellent. I noticed that they also sell tapas later on in the evening. I would definitely come back to check this place out.
