We had a great experience at this hidden treasure! The bartender was fantastic(I think his name was Matt — he really likes Star Wars) and the atmosphere was great. Oh and the beer was awesome too! Five stars.

Cool place! We have never really spent any time in Abilene, so we were happy to have stumbled upon Barley Hopper’s. They have a very impressive draft beer selection that they appear to change often. Our only disappointment was not coming here on a busy night because it’s a really cool venue that seems to be happening on weekends! We hope to time a future trip back when they have entertainment. :)

Beer selection is fantastic. Atmosphere is great. There are dogs walk in around and welcomed to the bar, needless I say more on the quality of atmosphere! My only thing is the food truck is closed :(and it is only 10…

Currently obsessed with this place. We’ve been going every Tuesday for the past 3 weeks because we found out it is pint night. Where you buy the beer & get the glass. They do a different beer special each week and you pay a tiny bit extra to keep the glass it comes in, however, it’s totally worth it. The beers aren’t over priced and *drum roll please* IT’S DOGFRIENDLY! Pretty hard to find a spot in Abilene like this. They have a really nice little beer garden out back and they have food trucks on pint night a lot as well. They host a quarterly beer dinner too, where they pair the beer of the night with different dishes, it ends up being like a 6 course meal. We haven’t been to one yet, but from what I have heard from my friends that have been, it’s 100% worth it! I believe these are always hosted on Tuesday as well. They do have a different type of special each night & they have them listed on the board by the bar. Their beers change frequently enough & they have some other for sale in a cooler to the right of the bar. All in all, I can’t brag enough about this place.

The owner knows his beer. We visited from the northeast where IPA’s are fairly easy to obtain. Not so much in Texas. But this guy knew ALL his beers. We wish him well and much success! We will definitely return there when we get back to Abilene – without a doubt.

Excellent bar for beer lovers. Always clean and well kept, and excellent service. They’ve recently overhauled the patio, and it’s a great place to hang out. Just understand what it is before you go in… they do not have wine, mixed drinks, or «light» anything. :) Not just«Abilene good,» it’s a good all-around bar. I hope it continues to succeed.

Awesome place to try some new beer and just hang out. Nowhere else in Abilene has this kind of selection when it comes to beer. They also have food trucks come out.

Great selection of draft beers… played some darts… and listened to some Johnny Cash. Perfect bar night despite the crazy weather and the snow!

Really enjoy stopping in here for a couple beers and a bite to eat when there is a food truck. I never end up ordering the same thing twice it seems and it’s a nice spot to relax on the patio with friends. When it is packed it can take a little while to get a drink though. They do have people on the patio asking if they can get you another sometimes though. Great selection and fun nights like trivia.

If you love beer, and i don’t mean coors light or any of that horse piss bullshit. You will love this place. The most knowledgeable staff this side of Portland OREGON. It’s a place where you can feel the passion and dedication of the proprietor Tabias. This brew pub feels more at home in Northern California or Oregon than Big country Texas. A must stop for any beer lover.

The atmosphere is great. Its usually a good time had by all when we go and drink way too much! I like craft beers and they have a HUGE selection. My only issue with them is they like to stock beer that is heavy, chewable, and sometimes as thick as motor oil. Don’t get me wrong, I like my occasional IPA and Stout, but I also don’t like stumbling out of that place. Those heavy beers go great with food, which they have none. Bring your own food or order pizza and have it delivered. Don’t expect to enjoy a beer and grab a bite.

(Before I begin there are at least three reviews that are obvious meant for other businesses. That should be looked into. Okay moving on…) It’s been hard finding a place that sells good beer in Abilene. It’s a smaller town and so options are few in number. H&H and Big Johnson’s are great for finding beer to take home or over to some friends, but what about a place to go sit, have a couple really good beers with those friends. For me, that place is Barley-Hoppers. Much like other beer bars, they have a caulk board walk with all the beers they have on tap and they keep it pretty updated so you don’t end up asking for something on, y to find out that they’re out of it. Everyone there is pretty knowledgable when it comes to beer. So those who aren’t, can find something they might enjoy. Their selection of beer is always rotating so there is always something new to try. So if you haven’t been in a few weeks there is likely new beers for you. Being a frequent Untappd user it helps me keep racking up those check ins. But that’s not my sole reason for going. Oh no. It’s the beers they have. Again, it’s ever changing and most often this is the only place in Abilene where you’ll find these beers. It’s a good thing to come here as often as possible so you don’t miss out. Trust me, it happens. I’ve waited too long and I’ve missed out on some potentially really great beers. Drinking great beers comes at a price though. I’ve come away with tabs that come with a shock, but that’s okay. I don’t go out all that often. I’ve been here during different times of the week. It’s usually got a decent amount of people. Don’t come too late or you might be walking a bit because the parking lot fills up quick. Just like other beer bars. There really isn’t much else. They have some sodas and snack chips, but this place doesn’t have food. On occasion, usually during the warmer months and on the weekends during those warmer months, they have food trucks. Which is a nice addition. I don’t know what else to say. If you love beer and happen to be in Abilene or just passing by. It’s definitely worth a beer or two of your time.

An oasis in a craft beer desert. Great beers on tap, and knowledgeable staff. Looks a little rough on he outside but don’t be fooled.

Seems this place isn’t nearly as crowded as it used to be. I guess the popularity has worn off or maybe the college kids just haven’t found this place again. The beer is still expensive, but they have great selection so if you’re feeling adventurous and want to spend a little money this is probably the only place left to do it in relative comfort since Bar 14 closed down.

Really impressed with the selection of beers they have here! Place looks a little sketchy when you drive up but was pleasantly surprised once we walked in; pool tables and outdoor patio to one side and the bar with plenty of booths and tables to the other. No food served but again, great beer selection! They don’t have their own growlers but are happy to fill any one you bring in; had a Stone IPA that was fantastic! Must try if in Abilene!

Great service from friendly staff. Just the right size to accommodate a small group of people. Great selection of brew. Back patio provides nice atmosphere to relax and chat with friends on warm evenings. They even have a group that meets for a little Bible and Brew meet every 1st Wed of the month.

I run across places like this sometimes when i’m traveling but it’s great to finally see one at home. Great selection, great vibe, great atmosphere, and great service. Seriously, if you’re in Abilene and like ‘real’ beer, this is the only place to go and it’s a great place at that. I was particularly impressed that the servers seemed to know the beer they had on hand well enough to help those in my party find a beer to their liking… successfully. What they could do better: For those of us that will never trust the servers judgement over our own, we want a beer list we can actually see. Not all the beers were on the chaulk board and peering over the bar at the tap handles was a bit adgitating for me and unerving to those sitting at the bar between me and the tap handles. Barley-Hoppers really needs a ‘beer list’ even if it’s just a piece of paper printed up new each day. I think this is a pretty big deal. Still 5 stars though cause there is no one in town that even comes close at this time.

Abilene finally has a «bar» that has culture. No traditional domestics great selection close to 100 different types of beer. Great place to unwind after a long day. The owners offer customers great hospitality and an inviting environment. way to go guys
