Catherines is another specialty clothing boutique for plus-size women that includes more upscale, professional or mature clothing lines. Unlike Lane Bryant, which only goes up to 28, Catherines offers more generous sizes up to 34W/5X.(Special note, sizes at Catherines run a bit larger, and Lane Bryant a bit smaller — this means a 2X at one may fit fine, but be too big or too little at the other.) Retail prices can be a little higher, but they often have great clearance deals and«price right» items for basic clothing items. The quality is much higher than what you would find at discount stores like Walmart or even Target, and it used to be my go-to shop for hosiery when I had an office job. Much better fitting than the plus-size options at the so-called«regular» stores. The same is true for the higher end stores Dillards, which offers plus-size options but are essentially bigger styles made for a thinner person. The customer service is generally always stellar, with associates who understand the needs of the larger sized woman. I’ve also seen sign-up sheets for plus-size model volunteers for local clothing shows.
