We just ate here because it was the only Mexican food close that was open and had great reviews! We would have been better off eating Taco Bell. The only good thing was the Margarita. It took over 15 minutes to get our drinks, over 30 minutes to get our food, and only one out of six plates were eaten. We asked to substitute shrimp for chicken and we’re charged a dollar a shrimp, and the chicken might have well been out of a can. Then had to ask for our ticket twice, and finally got it 15 minutes after the second time.

Locals recommended this place and I would have to say I am not disappoints. Good food and decent prices. The place is really cute and easy to find. I got the stacked beef enchiladas with the 2 over easy eggs and a cup of Cuban soup!

I love this restaurant. My favorite things… the grilled chicken quesadilla, the posole, the mango chunky salsa and the red salsa. I like so much more but these items are simply over the top! I would recommend this place to anyone. The wait staff is so friendly and the owner is the nicest person you have ever met.

Abuelos is the best Mexican food in Abilene! the sampler appetizer is always good, I go for the sour cream enchiladas, but sometimes default to those dang street tacos, I cant even help myself. Friday and Sat nights are gonna be tough especially around the paydays of the 1st and 15th. Just to be aware, but yeah the wait is worth it. Highly recommended.

I proudly give our dining experience 5 stars tonight. So amazing. Our server was fabulous. Live music!!! My boyfriend got a great Cuban pork dish. I got the enchiladas. Food was sooooo good!!! $ 3 margaritas were some of the best I ever tasted! Good food, good drinks, live entertainment! Can’t wait to come back.

This is for the south location on Buffalo Gap Rd, have tried the N1st location and it was OK. No, just no… the chicken fried steak was old as old frozen from a box can be… yuck. The service was slow and confused. Plates came out mixed in with other tables and the server was just confused. If you must eat here, try a burger, the rest is really bad and as mentioned, the out of the box frozen chicken fry was completely inedible. The server even said it did not look right.

Best taco in my life. I usually eat on item with beans and rice. I’m a very small portion water. I ordered an additional taco it was so good. Then Ordered sopapillas. Wonderful. If you ate at the one in buffalo gap give this one a try 100% better!!!

Good food and service. Great owners that work hard! The salsa is good, but tomato-y, as I like! I try to eat low carb(that’s difficult with those chips!) so I had the smothered chopped steak with a salad. Fantastic! Lot’s o’brown gravy, onions, and mushrooms over a perfectly cooked hamburger. I had guacamole as my salad dressing and I loved it! Didn’t even need salt or lemon! Would visit again and have the fish tacos… they looked great!

Sad day… love their Cuban sandwiches. …couldn’t get in… hardly any customers… lots of dirty tables… hostess who acted like she was strung out on meth… told us it would be «25 minute or whatever» wait because kitchen was behind. we left and so did about 8 others. Sad because those sandwiches are so good. Hope new location is better when it opens. Won’t go back to this one.

Ate here today with hubby on a whim. I got the beef street tacos on a recommendation of our waitress. He got the deluxe nachos. The chips are home made and thick but I love them! My street tacos were fabulous and I would come back just for those. They have happy hour from 11 – 6 which included draft beers. We ordered Dos Equis and had one pony pitcher a single draft and a schooner. Total our beers were $ 8! Great value.

Decided to go try this restaurant since I never have. Just got back from Del Rio and had some kick ass nachos and wanted to see if they can match. The atmosphere is great, they have that going for them, the food was OK. The ingredients weren’t fresh, the chips were stale, they have a bar which ill have to go back and try and I may have to try something else on the menu I’ll give them another chance, the waitress was very nice.

My friends son has a disability and requires a service animal. The first time he refused to serve them. The next day the mother confronted the owner and he agreed he was in the wrong and treated them well so I have updated my review.

Excellent service today at lunch! I had the sour cream chicken flautas, and were larger than most and quite tasty. Didn’t really like their chips, but everything else was very good. Oh, the place is really nice on the inside… Pleasantly suprised!

I hate to be harsh but if a place sells itself as homemade and fresh but yet tastes canned and reheated… someone must call them out. Avoid. Go to Casa Herrera, Loa Arcos, Abuelos, or even Taco Bell. Not here. Never here.

First let me say that I really wanted to love this place. The location has a ton of sentimental value for a lot of Abilenians. I have been there several times and though the food is okay, it isn’t anything special. What I like best are the house-made fried cheese sticks with chipotle ranch dressing. The menu has a lot of choices, almost overwhelming in the variety. The Mexican food is a bit bland for me. I’ve had taco salad, nachos, a quesadilla, fajitas, and the Tuesday special stuffed fried avocados. Sadly, the last was the biggest disappointment. The breading needed some spices to enhance the avocado. There was very little chicken and the queso on top was too salty. The charro beans side had barbecue sauce which made them taste like ranch style beans. Since the restaurant does serve Cuban food too, including a traditional Cuban sandwich, that could be the best bet for something flavorful and different. There are also several daily specials. The owner, Jorge, is very accommodating and friendly. He puts his heart into his business. I wish I could be more positive about the food. It is about the same as several other local places. I do enjoy several of the appetizers.

Gotta check out the huge Cuban sandwich. Tasty. Not exactly like Miami but good.

Don Luis was actually in Buffalo Gap for 2 years before coming to Abilene. George, the owner, is a wonderful person and will make your stay enjoyable. I have tried the Mexican and the Cuban, and have enjoyed both. Some of the meals are on the smaller side, which is perfect if you are not so hungry, and the price fits the portion. Really good deals. The Cuban pork is one of my favorites. Go meet George and give them a try.

The hot hot sauce is great, a smooth blended sauce with just enough heat to make you sniff. Lol. The chips weren’t fresh and were just cut up corn tortillas. Friendly waitstaff. The chicken tostada was small but very good and for a $ 1.50 a bargain! I’ll be back to try the Cuban foods.
