First time there today after passing it several times. This place is basically your classic small town restaurant serving all the breakfast classics you might crave. Here’s my take on each piece of the restaurant: Environment: 4 stars. Friendly, feels family like, as I said it’s just like a small town’s locally owned restaurant. Decent tables, booths, and chairs. Not too shabby at all. Staff: 3 – 4 stars. My waitress paid attention to me only when she needed to but hey being a waitress in a place that’s famous for breakfast and working in the morning, I know it’s not easy. Customers calling on you from left to right. But I wouldn’t mind a little extra check up every other time she walked by. But she was dealing with a very hateful customer. So I gave her a good tip for holding up as well as she did. The rest of the staff were pretty good. Quick, smiling faces, and making sure everyone was satisfied. Food: I ordered a simple meal– hash browns, over easy eggs, one biscuit, and gravy with orange juice. Everything turned out great. I don’t see the big deal with the gravy to be honest, but then again, that’s just me. I do have to be thankful it didn’t taste awful. Biscuit was cooked just right, I really appreciated that. Fluffy and pretty with the gravy. Egg was great as well, hash browns were a little tough to chew on. But orange juice just topped everything off, so no worries. Overall: 4 stars for exceptional service and food. Missing a star because of the waitress. Had she been a little nicer and more caring towards me, I would’ve given this place a full 5 stars.

I have been here a handful of times for breakfast and I have never really been impressed. My standard fare is eggs over medium, sausage and biscuits and gravy The times I have eaten here, it is been a little after 8 — so that may be part of the problem, perhaps if I had gotten to the restaurant a little earlier it would’ve been better. . The eggs are fine but nothing spectacular. The biscuits are consistently dry, crusty and overcooked as is the sausage. The gravy is very tasty and makes the biscuits edible. Coffee is great as is the service.

Wouldn’t have found this without Unilocal and glad I did. Little bit of grease and the best biscuits and gravy I’ve had in a long time!

In town for the weekend. Great restaurant!!! Food was just like my grandmother made. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was great!!! Prior reviews must have been written by people who received participation trophies as children and got time outs… Place was packed and full of locals… Need I say anymore???

The oldest restaurant in Abilene and my favorite for breakfast! The BEST biscuits(HUGE) and gravy anywhere, fresh hot coffee and quick, friendly service. The portions are very large and the prices are great. Bring cash, as they don’t accept CC or debit cards.

This is the best dinner in town! The coffee hits the spot and yes they have real half and half. The door is great dinner food, and that coffee. Mmmm

We came here for breakfast after hearing good reviews about it. We won’t be coming back here again. It wasn’t very good at all. My hash browns didn’t taste cooked(I couldn’t even eat them), I barely received any eggs and the pancakes didn’t taste so great either. The bacon was super burnt as well. The waitress also didn’t seem too pleasant. This place has been here a long time but there are way better options for breakfast. I can make better breakfast at home.

Love this place. Try to go early for breakfast. This place is so popular you may not find a place to park. Always good lunches as well.

You know those places where the breakfast comes out looking so perfect, you know they’ve just nuked it? This is not that place. It’s obvious the food is cooked to order and that’s good. The coffee was good, the bacon was thick and as crispy as thick bacon can be, the eggs were cooked as ordered and fine, the biscuit and gravy were average, but not bad, and service was friendly and efficient. Décor is diner and we do not have high expectations. But… despite butter and a flood of syrup, the pancakes were dry… so dry my husband didn’t finish them. What?! Trust me, that’s huge. Hash browns could have used a little more time on the griddle. Lots of older locals seated at the bar and that adds to the ambience. But next time we’re in town we’ll try another place.

If you are looking for an out of date diner with rude service… this place is meant for you!!! Comfort food doesn’t have to be smothered in gravy, deep fried in old overheated oil. Granted it is not the prime choice for healthy food but, arteries diabetes and coronary attack shouldn’t bw on the menu as sides… I guess the place runs on old timers and the occasional stranded person seeking comfort in food… Would i recommend it? Not really.

Check or cash only! It’s 2015, think it’s bout time to start accepting CC/Debit cards. Quit being stubborn.

This is the only place my girlfriend well let me take her for breakfast, but that’s mostly because she’s picky and demanding. They are pretty good pancakes though, and I like the biscuits and gravy! Nothing soothes a constantly bitter girlfriend like some sweet maple syrup.

Great breakfast dinner! They do also serve lunch foods, but honestly I’ve never bothered with anything other than the breakfast food which is absolutely amazing. Food is affordable, portions are huge, and I’ve always had fast and great service from the staff. The only downside here is that they don’t accept any form of payment except for cash

This is a classic diner serving classic diner fare. Nothing fancy here, but solid dishes, quick service, and polite staff. The biscuits are delicious(although the gravy is a fairly plain cream gravy) and the eggs and bacon were both cooked to perfection. *They do not accept credit cards!* They do take checks though. I’ll definitely stop here again next time I’m in town.

Basic breakfast and lunch place. Good food at very reasonable prices. Looks like a locals place seating and service was prompt. Staff not all that friendly. Would surely came back here again.

Giving the Dixie Pig a high 3/low 4. Went with my husband this past weekend for a late breakfast. Was expecting to wait for a table, but was pleasantly surprised to find some open tables available! Loved the fact that almost every item(if not all of them) are under $ 10.00. Just your basic breakfast goodness — eggs, bacon, omelets, etc. I split pancakes and an omelet with my husband(along with hashbrowns, bacon, and biscuits/gravy) and we gave the food a thumbs up! Just good ol’ down home cookin’. I would definitely say we would go back — for the price of the food, it was worth it. Don’t forget to take cash!

So I had breakfast here the other day based on all the good reviews and was expecting amazing food. Needless to say I was a bit disappointed. I sat up on the bar where I could watch the food getting prepped and was a little disgusted when I saw the cooks put the bacon and sausage on the plates with their BARE hands… yuck, why weren’t they wearing gloves?!? When our food came there was nothing overly special about it. I got hasbrowns, an egg, a pancake, and biscuit and gravy. Egg and hasbrowns were fine, the pancake was really heavy, not light and fluffy, and I was expecting a sausage gravy with my biscuit but it was just white gravy. If you want a mediocre breakfast go here but you could probably make tastier food at home without someone else’s germs on it.

Abilene’s oldest restaurant. Sassy staff, great food, and a good cup of Joe.

This place is crowded. They don’t take credit cards. They aren’t open for dinner. And despite all those complaints I still love this place. They have the BEST breakfast in all of Abilene. The absolutely fluffiest biscuits I’ve ever tasted(please don’t be mad Gramma), and a country gravy that doesn’t come from a gosh dang package.
