This place is adorable! I was in Abingdon to play with an orchestra and thought I’d explore the downtown area. I ordered the plain baklava and it was pretty good, it was a little soggy on the bottom but maybe because it was the end of the day(or maybe just too much honey!). A friend got the peanut butter chocolate baklava and it was very good! The woman who owns it was very nice!

Enjoyed visiting the Balkan Bakery. The owners of the shop were very friendly. Very quaint location. The food items were outstanding.

Tried their baklava and croissant at farmers market. Baklava very good. I didn’t care for the croissant, though I figure it was quite authentic. Prices a bit steep.

If you like coffee, try the tursko coffee here. It’s made perfectly!.. and the assorted Truffles! You’ll be very happy you did.

This place is in the same building as zazzys coffee shop and was the perfect compliment to my latte. A small place run by a couple from the Balkan who definitely know how to pastry! I had two croissant like pastries, one with chocolate and the other with raspberry filling. All the ingredients were obviously handmade and they were excellent! Will add this to my list of stops when passing through Abingdon area.

The Balkan Bakery has existed in the Abingdon Farmer’s Market circuit since last year, and for four months now, has had an open shop within the same house as Zazzy’z. Turkish goodies await in the form of baklava, turkish coffee with beans roasted by Zazzy’z, and so much more. On the coffee, I think it is a good choice. It does seem counter intuitive considering there’s a café with more options, but if you want your coffee and sweets to be swept up in one order, this is a good idea. My coffee baklava was great on the flaky and buttery goodness of the bread, but the texture was awful with the coffee. It’s like they dumped ground coffee into the pastry for the taste. It was grainy and distracting. I think another technique should be used here. The owners are super sweet, and considering they’ve been around for a year, I doubt they’ll be out of town anytime soon. It appears to be a successful operation, and when I get a chance, I do want to try some other pastries to make sure they are better than what I ordered(aka, the reason why I won’t be terribly harsh in this review until I get some more experience with the bakery). If you’re a local, check it out! I’d love to hear some other view and opinions :)
