Okee dokee, I am sick of seeing the reviews that they closed or that they haven’t. Their original location IS closed. No buffet, no pasta, no salad bar, no crummy atmosphere of days forgotten. I remember playing Super Mario Bros. here when I was little in the take-out«cafeteria» as a kid. The pizza, however, IS available down the street at a joint called Pyramid Club. They do dine-in, take-out, and delivery. Their own pizza was actually pretty good, but now gone. They also answer the phone for the old John’s location.

Johns Pizza is not closed guys… they just relocated. Their phone number still works. I just placed an order this evening. I love their pizza and am glad they’re still around.

We went here on a Wednesday night, no one else in the restaurant and it still took over ten minutes to place an order. The menu wasn’t that big that is took so long for our waitress to finally get to us. We ordered a pizza that on the menu said would take 20 minutes and she informed us it would take at least 40. I don’t understand that but, ok. When the pizza finally arrived it was prettu good. Standard sauce, gooey cheese(yum) and a pretty good crust. The food gets the two stars, anything else not so much.

It was a cold rainy night on Tuesday March 8, 2011 and the Chicago Blackhawks had just lost. However that did not stop the fun at John’s Pizza/Hidaway Lounge during the«Fat Tuesday», Mardi Gras Party. John’s has been an icon of the Addison Community since the 1970s. John’s is an Italian-American Restaurant with a lounge and serves one of the best pizza’s in the area. The establishment has a following of many of the locals. Inside the lounge they have a full service bar with table seating and bar seating. They have an electronic dart machine, a pool table, a video game, and an electronic digital internet juke box. On Tuesday and Saturday nights, karokee is put on by Doug and his Company called Code Blue Entertainment. Doug is also the lead singer for a great band called, Just-n-Trouble, who also plays at John’s and other local establishments. In the bar is also a pizza warmer and on many occassions the staff will put out some hot fresh, free pizza for the patrons. The drinks at John’s and very cheap and they have many drink specials. On tap they serve Bud, Bud light, and Bluemoon. They also serve PBR in a can and also the regular domestic and import beers. Behind the bar they have two large screen TVs, for viewing the games. I found the head bartender«Lenny» to be a friendly great bartender with good customer service skills. On «Fat Tuesday» as I entered the bar I noticed in was very busy. The bar was decorated with purple, black and yellow ballons. The patrons were wearing face masks, beads and funny hats. Many of the patrons were grads from Addison Trail, Fenton and Lake Park High Schools. Doug, Suzy, Bodine hosted the karokee show. The drink specials for«Fat Tuesday«were $ 1.00 Jello Shots, $ 2.00 Beadue Shots, $ 4.00 Mr. Joes, $ 4.00 Malibu Pineapples, and $ 4.00 GreenApple Martinis. I prefered the GreenApple Martinis. Both Tricia and Lisa did a excellent job serving out those cocktails to a fun loving crowd. Of course«Joe Dirt» got up and did his signature song«Sweet Caroline«which got the crowd going. I grew up on Linda Lane, in Addison back in the late 70s early 80s and that night I ran into a neighbor named Tracy T. that I had not seen in 20 years. That was a blast from the past. There was a lot of singing, dancing and drinking that night at John’s. I have to admit that the owner Joe and General Manger Tricia did a great job on this event. In the past other events have been just as fun. GM, Tricia seems to know what the local crowd likes and is good for customer service and marketing. John’s also has a private room which is great for booking events. The restaurant is great for the Family and they also deliver. When at John’s, my mind sometimes drafts back to when I was a kid or teen, and as a group we would go there for the great pizza. John C, the orignal owner was a man of honor and did alot for the Italian-American Community and Business Association. The Mardi Gras party at John’s was a four star event based on my experience. I recommend you come up there for karokee or just for some plan fun sometime. Tricia and her staff will welcome you with a smile.(:, Addison, Il. is not a bad place to drink.

I’ve been to John’s a few times over the years and every time I go, I tell myself this is the last time and I’ll never go back. Today’s experience did not change my opinion. I went there for the buffet lunch. I got about half way down the 20 foot buffet line and still could not find anything that looked appetizing to put on my plate. All of the food looked like it had been sitting there for at least an hour and the craziest part was, there was no pizza!!! Pizza is part of the restaurant’s name!!! Holy Cow! Eventually a single pizza was brought out and everyone eating there descended on it like hungry vultures. The pizza was soon devoured and again… no pizza. You would think that a place known for it’s pizza would have a variety of pies on it’s buffet, not just one pizza. I know, that’s just crazy talk… Once I did get some food on my plate, the flavor was just OK(including the pizza), nothing really exciting and I found myself not really wanting to go back for anything more. I did try a couple of the deserts and even those were bland. Needless to say, the whole meal was a dissapoiting experience.

We went this evening with 5 adults and 2 children. We ordered the buffet without looking at a menu. It was expensive and the food wasn’t good at all. All the server did was bring three pitchers of pop and a check. Since we were over 6 guests we were required to leave a 15% gratuity on $ 100.00 check. First of all, it’s not a gratuity if it’s required by the restaurant, they should just call it a surcharge. A gratuity is defined as: A reward, service, or payment provided freely, without obligation; We normally tip 10% for buffet service. When we disputed with the cashier, she argued. She thought that her server deserved $ 15 for bringing drinks to the table. Furthermore, she used the argument that the server«has to pay taxes» on her tips.(???) I have to pay taxes on my pay too. I’m not sure why she would even think to say something like that or why it’s relevant to adding a mandatory gratuity to a check… Then she got crabby when I disagreed with her and said«It’s says in the menu, parties over six get gratuity added».(We were never even brought a menu by the waitress) I will never go back. $ 115.00 for substandard buffet food and horrible service. When we told her that we wouldn’t be back she just shrugged her shoulders. Clearly, they’re doing just fine without my patronage and don’t mind if they upset customers. Not a problem. I’ll gladly dine somewhere that appreciates my business.

An annoyingly long commute home last night, replete with two accidents clogging things up and a sloooow Metra train, meant I was plenty irritated and tired when I finally got in the door. And in no mood to cook much of anything. Thank goodness for my sweet husband and his ability to pick up pizza. So John’s it was last night, as we continued our area tour of pizza take-out. Standard-issue stuff, just a large cheese thin crust, no extras as we’re going for fast and budget. Cheap! With a coupon, a mere $ 11 for a big olé thin crust. And tasty, too. Nice crunchy crust around the edges, chewier in the middle, with the cheese just a little more«done» than some places. Of course, it always slides off and you end up shoving the whole thing in your mouth, but that’s the way it goes. Thanks, John’s, for saving my Thursday night dinner.

My family ordered from here last weekend while I was in town. I grew up in Addison and I never went to John’s until I was already an adult when I was hanging out at a friend’s new condo and it was the closest option. Uncle Pete’s was always my local pizza of choice, and I don’t know why. John’s is fantastic. I heard they used to be mediocre at best but have improved tremendously. Glad I didn’t live through that during my childhood. Their thin crust was good. Chicago thin crust is cut into squares and the cheese always slides off of the crust, so I’ll give that a pass. We got mushroom, sausage, and spinach. I’m not a fan of spinach unless it’s fresh. Many pizza places mush it on and it tastes frozen. John’s wasn’t that fresh, but it wasn’t mushy and gross. And the crust was a good consistency. Not too crunchy and not too soggy. I also ordered a tossed salad. It’s hard to screw that one up. I think from now on when I’m hanging out in A-Town, I’m going to insist on John’s over Uncle Pete’s and even Giordanos.

Went here with a group of co-workers for the lunch buffet. The selection is excellent: potato salad, shrimp salad, pizza, lasagna, fried fish, bbq ribs, sausage & peppers, meatballs, lunch meats, fruit, desserts, and more. The pizza was average to good, sausage and meatballs were good and lasagna was very ordinary. I didn’t try the fish, but a co-worker mentioned that it was not good at all. Nothing I had was outstanding, but nothing was horrible either. I found it to be somewhat pricey for a lunch buffet(almost $ 11 w/a drink), but I guess you’re paying for the variety more than anything. It’s certainly apparent that this place has been around for 40+ years, the décor and atmosphere are nothing to stop in for.

I worked here for a long time in high school, and I always thought it was the best thin crust pizza around. Recently, I ordered a few pizzas to take back to my parents the last time I visited them, and it was like they’d been waiting for me all along. The crust is lightly buttery and crispy, with cheese all the way to the edge, the way it should be. One of the only places I’ve ever known to split a pizza into 1/3’s. Their italian sausage used to be delivered daily from a family member’s butcher shop; now I’m not sure where they get it. They also have good extra-thick crust, pan and stuffed pizzas. Their dinner buffet is a great value, and it includes their best selections off their dining room menu. For a real treat, try their italian beef with either sweet or hot peppers(or both!) on their pizza, and get beef gravy instead of pizza sauce. A real diamond in the rough. John’s is always on my list every time I come back to town. They’ve been in business for over 40 years, and it’s obvious why.
