Recently, I made a run in one morning and hit seven area bakeries. Near the end of the run was the mexican bakery La Luz de Marelas Bakery. As with many mexican bakeries, they were light on donuts/pastries, but featured the usual inexpensive sweet breads, etc. Their muffins and breads were good(not exceptional) the first time I tried it, but upon a return trip a week later, were very stale. It does appear that their turnover(how fast product is moved) is not as strict as some of the other bakeries in the area, so the possibility of stale items is increased. I always try to give small businesses a chance to make up for a bad experience, but given the preponderance of good to great bakeries in the area, its awfully tough to suggest I skip by bakeries I know are better to give them another chance.

Ick! Ick time 10. Such a disappointment. We drive past here regularly because my fiancé’s family lives in the area and every time we pass, I say, «I wanna go to the Mexican bakery!» We finally went… Everything looked great. Just like the place on the west side of Chicago my dad takes me once a year. We were going to my mom’s for a get together the next day and I thought to bring some of these treats might be a nice addition. We tasted one of the items a few hours after we got them and it was stale, stale, stale. Now, granted, it wasn’t costly, but they should not sell these stale items. Here’s the thing, they had a table with«day old» items for a discounted price and we did not purchase these items, we bought the items in the cases that looked so pretty and delicious. Not one item was good. Needless to say, we will not be returning.
