This was my first time getting my taxes prepared by an accountant that wasn’t turbotax. We had some minor life changes (bought a house etc) that I thought would be helpful in having an expert prepare my taxes. I should have just done them on my own. Everything was really easy to send over and they were prepared quickly, but once I received the bill it was a little confusing because I received multiple bills and they were not itemized. I had some questions about the price, but mostly just trying to understand the bill with a breakdown of hourly rate and hours needed to prepare my taxes. I called Wendall who is the owner to clarify and was treated awfully.
It’s not even that I thought I was unfairly charged or complained, mostly I was surprised it was higher than I thought and wanted to understand it better. I was basically treated like I was an idiot and that I shouldn’t be expecting turbo tax prices. At this point I had not even brought up what I expected the prices to be, nor did I compare him to turbo tax. I tried to explain that I am going to pay my bill and I’m not trying to argue or negotiate his fee, just wanted to understand it better as this is my first time working with a non turbo-​tax like tool… but once again was basically yelled at for wasting his time. He told me multiple times to pay whatever I thought was fair and then immediately after each time offering this mentioned something about how he can’t live off of less. The whole conversation was bizarre and escalated to uncomfortable within 10 seconds of talking.
I have NEVER been treated so poorly by someone that I was paying money for a service that I could have easily went elsewhere for. The most unprofessional experience I have ever had with any service… period.
