Short version: Super Best’s mini-me. with a strong Latino accent. This supermercado occupies a space that was once a small Safeway, before the large store in Hillandale was built. Lots of fresh vegetables and tropical fruits and roots at better prices than gringo stores. A whole wall of spices and dried chiles. Mexican cheeses. Chorizo. Tortillas, and of course masa if you want to make your own. Large selection of meat and poultry, including parts that gringos don’t eat, also at excellent prices. Butcher counter if you don’t see what you want. Seafood counter has whole fish on ice, cleaned to order. Soft drink flavors you’ve never heard of. A line of pinatas hanging from the ceiling in the front. My only gripe: you can’t buy just one jalapeño(which is what my chili recipe calls for since I use several varieties of pepper). I also did not see the french style bread used for tortas.
