Anyone who has visited several gun shops knows that they are often anything but friendly. As a new shooter, I have often felt very unwelcome in gun stores. My first visit to an archery store in Georgia was much the same. So I went to Drop Tine Archery with some trepidation.(I am such a newbie to archery that I don’t even know what«drop tine» means!) But my friend has really been encouraging me to get into archery, so I thought I would give it a try. I walked in to find a very clean and well-organized story. Lots of compound bows and cross bows, as well as accessories, and a very nice archery range in the back. We looked around for a while then a young man asked us if he could help. I saw only 3 recurve bows and told him I was interested in recurve. I said I guess you don’t sell many recurves, and he said actually they don’t have many in stock because they sell so many. He immediately went and grabbed catalogs for two companies and laid them out on the counter. I told him I was left handed and he said that two of the three in stock were left handed. One was used and being held on consignment and he said happily, let me string it up so you can shoot it. He did that and then took us to the range in the back, showed me how to shoot it, and let me have a try. As I was shooting he was giving me a free lesson, correcting my mistakes and encouraging me along. He also did the same for my wife. I told him I would for sure take the bow, and as we were walking back to the front he pointed out some other accessories I might need. Very low pressure. I picked out a couple of other things(I didn’t need arrows) and ended up spending a couple hundred dollars, quite happily. I noted that the used bow I bought was on consignment from one of their other customers, and was supposed to be cash only. But they let me charge it and had to collect tax on it, so someone ate the tax on that, which I thought was generous. In the end, I have to say that this was one of my best experiences ever in a gun/archery store. I’m going to buy bows and arrows for my wife and son, too, now and even though it is easy to shop on-line, I will definitely pay a little more and have them order for me. I am happy to pay a bit more for the advice, lessons, and great customer service I got at Drop Tine Archery.
