A cool place for a stop and gander of Afton Mountains in the Shenandoah Valley. Signage is excellent and frequent so you can get a chance to pull over. This is located off of I64 as you head into Charlottesville. It most certainly is a tourist attraction. Only cars are allowed. I have passed by here dozens of times, but this would be my very first stop. There are plenty of spaces, but I was one of the few on this day. Take a Summer day and the picture would be very different. There are trash can in the area. However, they were not utilized to the full extent and litter was present. Let’s get to the main attraction, the reason for the reveiw. What is the view really like. Well it’s pretty darn great as you can see from my pic. There is a nearby rock that I got some elevation to take my pic. It was pretty clear and I would see well. There are also a couple of plaques. «The Flight of Richard Dupont» and«Rockfish Gap Meeting. I snapped pics of both if you would like to read more, it not a long read. On many of my trips I have been in too much of a hurry and on the wrong side of the road to stop. If time permits this is a nice place to stretch and pop off a few pics of your view. It is a beautiful part of Virginia.
