Swimming with people during the Afton Art Fair. Malts are unfortunately not made with real fruit. They carry vintage candy and apparel along with hot and cold coffee drinks.

This place was okay — the service was good, and the outdoor seating are as nice and the ice cream was good — not amazing, but good. I’ve never been to that little part of the world before and its fun. However, they sell candy cigarettes. I may be an old prude, but what they hell? Why sell those? Aren’t we on a path to trying to separate candy from cigarettes? Weird thing to sell, I thought those wen’t away years ago. So, that knocks two stars off the rating.

The BEST and most charming Ice cream place in the twin cities! Not a far drive and a beautiful little ride down there. It’s worth the drive to Afton! The river along the back is amazing and a large beautiful park across the street with a great playground for kids and lots of areas to sit under a 100 year old oak tree with your ice cream. We were told this is the OLDEST ice cream shop in the state of MN and it’s run/owned by a darling family who we met, with all their kids working their too. My family loves it. We drive down at least once a week in the summer. Afton itself is a BEAUTIFUL town and a step back in time. Historic shops and sweet summer place to go. It’s worth the drive to Afton!

An affogato is a scoop of ice cream with a shot of espresso over it. I had it with«exhausted parent» which is a bourbon and chocolate chunk ice cream. So good. I think it would be amazing with Zanzibar as well.

Anyone rating Selma’s anything less than 5 stars needs to be committed to a mental health institution as a danger to themselves and others. They serve Ye Olde Chocolate Shoppe ice cream, which should be made the only ice cream available in the US by an act of congress. I’ve been a fan of the brand for years, and it had been about 10 since I’d had any. In a world where cost reduction and outsourcing is leaving me disappointed in so many brands I used to love and trust… they are still rock solid. This ice cream makes me want to die so that my last memory in life will be their ice cream. Now Selma’s takes an amazing product and puts it in its rightful place: a hand-made waffle cone. They whole store, which is richly adorned with candy and architecture of years-gone-by, simply reeks of freshly cooked waffle cones. And the portions are out of control. Please, for your cardiologist’s sake, only order a single. It is actually two generous portions. The old-world charm doesn’t stop there. The store itself is on a quiet street across from a park and has lots of outdoor seating on its two patios with the requisite rope lights and even more around the koi pond. It’s so Norman Rockwell that if Norman Rockwell were still alive he’d stop painting because he’d know he could never compete with it. Please go there. Please buy their ice cream. Please love them. They are the answer to all of our social ills.

We came here on a busy art fair weekend. It looked packed and I wasn’t sure I would have the patients to wait for the ice cream. I was surprised with how fast they served people and had them pay. What I thought was going to be a headache wasn’t. We hope to return to this gem soon.

A 2014 update. Selmas changed ice cream vendors to a small supplier from Michigan. Very good and lots of variety! Chocolate dipped home-made waffle cones added. Big portions, friendly service, half block walk to the St. Croix and a wonderful tree-shaded beach. Prices not cheap, but half of what you get for the money is to experience Minnesota’s oldest ice-cream parlor.

What a great little road trip on a gorgeous Saturday… got ice cream and coffee(and some fun retro candy) and enjoyed the day. A single kid scoop was more than enough for two toddlers to make a huge mess with, and we had a lovely time at the park across the street. What a great way to enjoy the beginning of ice cream season!

Whenever we visit Minnesota and we go down the St. Croix there are three things we must do: 1) Stop at the Sail Away Café for lunch. 2) Visit my boyfriend’s English teacher at this shop. 3) Go to Selma’s for ice cream. Their«one scoop» equals probably closer to two if not even three at any other place. They also have wild and crazy flavor choices. As an ice cream lover I can’t decide what I want. The service is also good considering they are dealing with slightly intoxicated undecided shoppers. They put up with our stupid questions and constant tastings. If you are in Afton this is a can’t miss.

Throwback atmosphere in a great small little town. The ice cream is ok, but not as good as Grand Olé Creamery.

New Management is a breath of fresh air. As an Afton local its good to see this place finally under some smiling management that has done a lot of work to spruce the place up, a far cry from the dive it was when I was a kid. A massive flavor menu with the old classic Zanzibar Chocolate still gracing the freezer. They’re stepping up the coffee game having met with a Belgian specialist who is helping expand the coffeeshop side of the house. They’re also adding a Sweet Fleet to the menu, ice cream’s answer to a wine flight, which is great considering the huge number of choices on the menu. Prices seem far more reasonable than past management who had the balls to try and charge 5.50 for a single scoop. No thanks. All in all, a nice improvement!

Wow, talk about time machine. I’ve been getting ice cream here since, well since I can remember. It’s a family tradition to take a quick trip to afton and stop by selma’s for some ice cream. It’s always great and you will love it. UPDATE: The place is closed REUPDATE08÷01÷08: It’s back open, but it looks like the place has been burgled. It’s bare, but the ice cream is still great. One scoop = one day’s meal. It’s also called Selma’s and something else now… Also they don’t have a working credit card machine as of yesterday, they still use the old credit card slip from like 1913. CARBONCOPY.
