I have been a client of Dawn for over 20 years, she has great skill, gives advice to many hairstyle options to what color is best! She is truly a professional and knows her hair and hair products. Came to see her yesterday and we decided on a subtle look for me as my hair was in desperate fix from my grown out ombré and dying ends. She recommended a low-light blend to rid of the blonde/light brown ends and it turned out perfect! I couldn’t have had any better anywhere else. The style we decided on was long layers starting from my chin down. I requested my hair was thinned out all around since I have very thick hair. Everything I have requested from Dawn was performed and I am very happy! Dawn also gave me pointers and tips on how to style and also what products she recommends to upkeep my color. The salon has a nice ambience and great music as well. It is located somewhat hidden behind the stairway and elevator of the row of shops.

This place sucks! I would never recommend anyone to go here! I don’t cut hair but I sure as hell know what I want my hair to feel like when I leave the salon and for the two times that I have been here I’ve never meet such immature adults! Its like they are all stuck in High school! Maria the Pilipino girl that thinks she’s all that. Lennett my goodness woman you need to grow up! Stop trying to compete with the younger women! You’ve already lost! The other Unilocal reviews mainly read about Terri and LyAnn and from what I’ve encountered they are the best Head Arts has to offer. Pricing is fair… if you know someone

I’ve been going here for about 2 years. Marie is great and always remembers what I tell her. Prices are decent and the work is great. I’m never disappointed.

Terri is the one to see! Terri has been cuting my hair, my wife’s hair and kids. Kids are in their twentys now. Terri is now cutting my grandchilds hair. Takes the time to ask how you want your hair cut and does a great job. Will be coming back to see Terri.

I hate to be the one review that knocks this place. But as the saying goes, «don’t knock it til you’ve tried it» and I tried it twice as a matter of fact and it was bad, real bad. I needed a new place to cut my hair because I moved. I was leaving my stylist in town in search of one closer to my home. I searched Unilocal and found Head Arts. Five stars in Aiea? Yippee! I also had an acquaintance(my hubbys, friends, girlfriend) who gave this place and the stylist the nod. So I went in confident that it was going to be fine! I asked for a trim and some layers. I also mentioned the fact that I was growing it out. I’m easy to please so I said thank you for cutting my hair and left. It obviously did not feel as perfect as my cuts at my previous hairdressers(ugh why did I cheat!) but I thought I was just being over critical. After all, I have never had bad haircut. However, after the haircut my sweet hubby didn’t compliment me. Then the next day at a party my very honest Japanese mom said«what the matter with your hair»?? I knew something was very wrong with my hair. I took a shower and tried to style my hair but it would not do anything. It looked like one of my 3 year old students chopped a big chunk of hair from the left side of my head. Come Monday. I go to work and my girls tell me my hair is messed up. Love them to death for their honesty but I was so sad. I put a bunch of hair pins in my head and survived the day. I called and left a message on the phone for the stylist that at 10:30 am– No call back the whole day. I gave her the benefit of the doubt. maybe closed today. The following day I called and left a more detailed message. The stylist finally called back and said she could see me in two days. I texted her a pic of my hair and she made room for me that day. I believe she agreed it was BAD! Although my friends told me not to go back but I did. Call me a dumbass. The stylist said she could fix it and gullible me believed it. I came after a long day of work and my hair was oily and gross. I mentioned this to her. She sat me on her chair and didn’t even shampoo my hair. Basically she put her dirty flat iron through my dirty, oily hair and cut it WTF? I didn’t understand. I was in shock. I just said thank you thank you and ran out of there as fast as I could. I went home and the hubby said it was still f*cked up. So did my friends the next day. Instead of one big preschooler chop now I have a super choppy front part of my hair as if all 8 of my preschool students gave me a hair cut!!! Never again! She apologized but trust me I worked in the hotel industry in the 90’s and I dealt with very demanding Japanese people. I know what a good apology is– I was the hotel apologizer, that was my job! I did not get that. With her half hearted apology, fix«attempt», plus a refund I would have been a little more satisfied because I could have used the $ 40 towards a cut with a person who knows how to cut my hair. ** I didn’t want to use the stylist name however if you really want to know PM me

Tracy is the best! She is the only person I let do my hair! I turned a lot of people to her from them complimenting my hair cuts. She’s so awesome and is able to do anything I ask her. Go to Tracy!

I was going here for years until my hair dresser moved to town. This is a nice and cozy shop. Every time I’d go I would see the same people all the time coming in to get their hair cut or colored. I never had any problems here. Then I followed my hair dresser to town and decided I didn’t want to drive there anymore. I will one day come back here. I just don’t know who to go to hmm…

I have been going to Lyann for over a decade, no doubt. She has always been on time, flexible with my timing, understanding with my never ending requests to change my time, and just overall has become a good friend. I knew Lyann before but over the years we have become like love/hate sister and brother and I enjoy going in every 3 – 4 weeks to cut my dome and shoot the breeze. I always feel much better after my monthly appt. I know she cut children’s hair and of course women too. I am sure she does all that a normal stylist does and MUCH more. If you are ever in need of hair assistance give my girl Lyann a call at Head Arts, you wont be disappointed.

I was a regular at Head Arts from when I was little, since almost everyone in my family goes to this salon and gets their hair cut by Teri. Sadly, I got lost in the world of dying, expensive trims, and fancy salons and ventured elsewhere into my wonderland of shears. But I am back! And the reasons being(why this place deserves five stars): — reasonable prices(they vary per hairdresser but Teri charges me $ 18-$ 23 for a haircut — no wash, dry, or styling) — conveniently located in the shopping center with Daiichi, and Aiea Public Library(which is down the street from me) — and awesome service Some salons have«snoody» hairdressers, and crazy prices. The Macy’s salon charges me $ 100 usually for just a cut(with wash). Teri always remembers details about my life, and keeps a friendly conversation going as she works. It’s like visiting a very old friend that I probably won’t be seeing for another 3 months or so. I’m the type of person who likes to bring in a picture of a style to show my hairdresser exactly what she wants, and Teri props it up on her shelf as she cuts, and asks me questions to verify with me the length, the way my hair parts, if I still want to keep a «shaggy» look, etc. Because she keeps the line of communication open and free, she ensures that I never walk away with a bad«do». The salon itself is small and very clean. There are about 10 – 12 seats total, with 5 – 6 chairs making two rows opposite of each other against two walls. There’s a restroom, as well as a little waiting area, and LOTS of styling products always on sale(ranging from brands like Nexxus, Pureology, Bedhead, etc.) Now that I count back all the hundreds of dollars I spent at those other fancy salons over the years, my head. and wallet, hurts a little. Your hair is in good hands here, and I highly recommend Teri!(She fills up fast so it’s best to reserve early or set your next appointment when you’re there) happy trimming! :]

Dawn who is one of the owners at Head Arts has been my hair stylist for15 years and I love her and the other staff members there. I am never disappointed after seeing her. She always delivers the hair style that I want and she’s great with telling you what does/doesn’t work for your face shape, height, etc. Some stylist out there will just cut/color your hair the way you ask but not all styles/colors matches everyone. Dawn is really busy so you need to get your appointment with her set early. I generally set 3 or 4 appintments at a time so I don’t have to worry about her being booked. There have been a handful of times where I needed to get my hair done but she was not available but she would book me with another stylist there. I love Lyann and Tracey too. All of them are nice and do a great job! For me the only thing that’s not convenient is the location. Head Arts is is Aiea and I live on the east side of the island but I would follow Dawn anywhere! Prices are not over the top too!
