This place is closed down, empty building standing. I was looking forward to nice Thai dinner but is no more.

Airway Heights, WA: You get luncheon sized servings at dinner prices on togo orders. [Between the lines: Dinner to go=small dinner portions at pricey, full dinner costs] Really wanted Thai tonight but first choice restaurant was closed. Skimming Unilocal offered up Grandma Jai’s. Hmmm, 4 stars? Why not, even though some Unilocalers mentioned a lack of broccolii in their Pad See Lew. I did have clarified that they actually use fresh, wide rice noodles. FOOD A-Pad See Lew with Chicken, 3 out of 5 stars spiciness(5 = spicy hot) B-Pad See Lew, Half Chicken, Half Tofu(fried), NO stars(no spiciness) Our order«A» was dry, as in both the meat and noodles. And bland, even though it was supposed to be 3 stars of spiciness. Order«B’s» chicken meat was also dry. The noodles were tender but very lacking in the amount of broccoli and tofu(see photo). They charged an additional $ 2.00 for the tofu, making my dish a whopping $ 12.95! The portion size was not generous. When I asked about the minimal broccoli, at the time I was checking under the lids of our orders, the gal at the counter said that’s how they do it in the kitchen. For a pricey $ 10.95 and $ 12.95, respectively, for what little we received, I will take my business elsewhere. Hubby gave his A order 1 star. I gave my B order 2 stars because of kind service. Averaged 2 stars after rounding up. The physical setting was cute and clean. The lady at the counter was sassy but cordial to me. She even gave me a glass of iced water while I waited for my to go orders. Service would have been 3.5 stars. Free parking besides the restaurant and outside tables in front. Free wifi. Too bad the dinner portions were small, pricey for what we received, lacking taste, and not enough vegetables. Based on what other Unilocalers have posted, I will not be returning.

Probably my favorite Thai food in Spokane. Love the curry selection. Prices are good and food portions are large.

Of the two Thai restaurants in Airway Heights, I’d say Grandma Jai’s is my favorite. Our first visit, the waitress was very nice and just loved my teenage son. She gave him a lot of attention, which is pretty funny because he’s a pretty shy guy. The food was great, I had Yellow Curry. Prices are reasonable. Second time we visited, we brought a friend. She ordered extra peanut sauce and asked twice, it never arrived to our table. Food was still good for us but I know she was a little bent out of shape over that.

Got there when it opened, no one around. Got the drunken noodles. They did not have a lunch special and their noodles were way too salty and not spicy at all even though i ordered spicy. Only one person working and no grandma cooking. This may be why I left disappointed.

The Food is all homemade I was however a bit bummed when ordering my Chicken Pad Thai to go, I didn’t get any veggies with mine. My husband ordered the Chicken Yakisoba, I realize this is Japanese but it was Delish… they definitely know how to make this. We also previously ordered the Chicken Lo Mein, which Yes I know is Chinese which was also Amazing… however this to go order was skimpy on the chicken and I ordered extra broccoli and only got 4 pieces and I paid for extra broccoli. However as far as Airway Heights go it is slim pickings folks, so that is why I am giving Grandma Jai’s 4 stars. I am a fan but do have some complaints. Also the wait was very long for our to go orders. but I realize it is a small place and they have to make it all from scratch so I really can’t complain if my food taste really good.

Best Thai food in spokane! I eat here regularly and have come to feel very at home at this restaurant. Grandma Jai is so sweet and makes her guests feel very welcome. My only criticism is that the service isn’t super fast, which doesn’t bother me personally because I don’t expect it to be fast and also because the quality of the food is worth it. You can’t rush perfection, as they say. I also wish they had a brown rice option but the food is perfect and there’s nowhere else I would go for Thai. I’ve tried other places in spokane only to be disappointed.

Food was good. Balance of spices and authentic tastes make this place a great Thai option. I would give a 5 star if they had a lunch menu. The portions were a little small considering we came in for lunch and paid a dinner price. The wait time was a little long considering there was only one table ahead of us. All in all I would recommend the food and most definitely plan on returning in the future. Hopefully for dinner next time!

I would’ve loved to try the food, but the minimum order for delivery(which may or may not happen, depending on whether or not«grandson» is in) is three entrees. Not a dollar amount, but three entrees. I’m in a hotel. Why would I need three entrees?! The one star is for the girl who answered the phone, and spoke English.

Good Thai for airway heights, better noodle dishes than Sala thai. And the lady that runs the place is awesome

Today is an extremely special day because I had just went to my boyfriend’s sisters wedding ceremony. No better way to end it other than great food. Coming all the way from California, I am always excited to try new places and new food. We were recommended to try this place by the groom himself. Coming in, we noticed that there wasnt any customers. Is this place good? I questioned. Since we were convinced that this place had a great selection of authentic Thai dishes… that is what we will believe. Omg. The fooood, was more than what I expected. it was amazzzing. I loved how the environment made you feel like you’re at home. The only downside to our meal was the timing of the food. We all wanted to eat together but all the entrees came out at just one at a time. It was fine because the owner herself came to apologize to us and the customer service was also wonderful which made it all up. Most definiately will come back when I’m back in Washington. :-)

Oh my! Never mind the food, Grandma Jai herself and her family are a delight and the hospitality is the best I’ve seen from a family ran restaurant. The food is great, and I recommend you try the tai tea and pot stickers. The levels of spice in my opinion are not super hot, but the food is exceptional. And if you befriend Grandma Jai and she likes you she will bring you free food until you basically say stop. Love this place.

This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, but it’s delicious. I was a bit worried when we were the only people on there at 12:15, but my co-worker and I decided to chance it. Here’s my first problem: no lunch menu. This means that your lunch starts around $ 10 and goes up — which is getting on the expensive side for lunch. With tip, mine ended up at $ 14. Anyway, I ordered the cashew chicken(3⁄5 heat). I like food a little spicy and 3⁄5 was good. I would consider them slightly below average on the heat(based on trying 5 – 6 other Thai places on the area). The cashew chicken was really good and came with a big side of rice. The sauce on it was excellent. My co-worker ordered the Pad Thai(3⁄5 heat) which was a big portion and he said it was good. The service was fine, but it was a tad loud with what appeared to be family talking/shouting in Thai in the back room. Based on the experience, I might go back for dinner — but the value isn’t quite there for lunch. I give it 3⁄5 for lunch prices and 4⁄5 for dinner prices. If they had some sort of lunch menu at good prices, this place might get a 5 star rating from me!

Walking into this place I was nervous. It looks like a little dive in the big chain food part of town. But if you’ve ever been to Thailand, the second you walk into this place you’ll know you’re in for a treat. The food was incredible and made fresh — and even though we’re just passing through town the next time I’m here I’m coming back and asking for«Grandma». While we were there Grandma sat with each of the tables asking them how their meals were, and everyone seemed really happy with the food. As a Portlander, and lover of Thai my standards are high — this place exceeded them. I can’t wait to come back!

How many places do you go where the owner comes out to check on you to see how your meal was? ALMOSTNONE! This is a quaint little place, we’ve driven by in dozens of times and finally decided to try it out. Dammit, we’ve been missing out all this time. It’s not the fancy atmosphere of places like Thai Bamboo, but it’s the best Thai food in the area. We ordered Spring Rolls, and received extra«complimentary» ones. Grandma doesn’t want you going hungry! The place is small, but I’d rather call it «quaint». You can tell that there are regulars that consistently come in, which is always a great sign. After our meal Grandma herself came out and chatted with us, made sure our food was perfect, and asked if she could give our son some extra treats(which she did). No complaints about the prices, food or service. Thank you, Grandma Jai!

2.5 Stars rounded up with a very good potential to increase. PROS Much larger menu then last time Genuinely nice owner/servers Quick service Free WiFi Unexpected ‘free’ appetizer Use of fresh vegetables, even if nontraditional was nice. CONS All of our entrée’s ranged from really sweet to mildly sweet in flavor so they were not balanced properly. The acid component on most dishes was completely missing Skimpy on the basil in dishes that require it. Bottom Line: The actual flavors of the food is good but it’s too sweet. If they could get the food balanced correctly and lose the excess sweetness this place would be a real contender. Until then there are better choices in the area.

Absolutely wonderful food coupled with excellent service makes this little place worth a visit or twenty. Grandma Jai is always on hand to make your experience extra nice, offering fresh, hot egg rolls or potstickers to her customers for free while they wait(because, in typical grandma fashion, she’s worried you’ll faint from starvation before your food arrives) and, with a cheerful wink and a pinch on your cheek, she will probably drop a few free cookies on your table after you finish your meal as well. I love the care and attention that goes into these delicious, reasonably priced, home cooked Thai dishes. Sure, Grandma’s staff may take a moment or two longer to prepare your food than other places, but don’t worry it’s not that much longer. And the wait is only because they’re taking the time to sprinkle your food with extra love and deliciousness. Trust me when I say your meal will be worth any wait, and at any rate, don’t fret, I promise you that Grandma won’t let you starve. **Techie Note** Free Wi-Fi is available here
