The EA exam is composed of 3 parts. I passed the first part easily. I failed part 2. My comments are on part 2 of the study material
All of the study materials are online. They include reading material, flash cards, sample tests, and questions that will provide answers and reasons immediately. I found the last one the most useful. The effectiveness of study material depends on your background and how smart you are. I have BSEE and worked as an engineer for 20 years so I would say I have at least average intelligence.
I found the reading material was written for someone with a strong back ground in corporate operations. When they talked about 401(k) plans, pension plans, cafeteria plans, where I already had background on, I had no trouble understanding it. But material on like and unlike exchanges, changing of adjusted basis, trading property, and partnerships, where I had no background on, I was confused. The material is not always clear and sometimes I thought they complicated it. They will tell you how they came up with the numbers but rarely why.
