Really good street tacos. Meat is excellent here. I really like the carne asada and al pastor. Everything I have had here has been and I typically just stick with the street tacos.

El Caballo Wraps has been my go to burrito shop for many years! I’ve used them for large events at work and they have come through every time. No request is too big and when I pulled pictures off of Pinterest and asked them to make roasted corn with cheese and cilantro toppings, individual sip cups and churros with chocolate sauce Oscar was happy to make it happen. I recently planned a backyard wedding and had Oscar put together a menu and cater the dinner for us. He delivered the items on time, the presentation was beautiful, there was more than enough food and we stayed within budget. Above all that everyone raved about the food! It’s great to know not only can I get a quick meal to go but I can get the full catering experience. I can’t wait to try out Oscar’s on Bay Farm!

In Alameda everyone knows that El Caballo is *the* place to go for chicken tortilla soup, so flavorful with plenty of big chunks of vegetables. It is one of my favorite soups anywhere! They also have the best fish tacos in Alameda, sautéed with a delicious sauce, instead of deep-fried like the other places. Try the fresh chicken guacamole salad. This family owned business has been in Alameda for a long time and is very connected with the community and local families. Very nice, friendly people!

This place is great. They now opened a new location so I go there also. Best tacos and soup for sure!

I just came from this place, visiting for the first time. And will be my last time! To the point– Biggest turn off, after placing my orders,(this was around 3:30 pm today, Tuesday April 26, 2016.) Sitting on one of their empty tables, my niece who was with me, pointed out a COCKROACH climbing the wall, and after closer look, it was one huge PREGNANT one! First sign of Unsanitary conditions! After that, my neice and I started noticing how dirty the place really was. Almost all of their tables weren’t cleaned off and re-freshed for new customers! Each table had food crumbs and we’re soiled. At this point I regretted coming here, but the order was placed already, and wanted to try out their food. But I have to say, their prices are overpriced for the amount of food we ordered and the food wasn’t that special! 2 Burritos, and 2 Chicken Quesadillas = $ 39.89! And the last straw to completely make me write this review was the fact that when I checked out the guacamole, there was a big chunk of the stem remnant from the avocado!!! SMH! This place sure has gone downhill from all the good reviews listed in the year 2014−−2015!!! I would not recommend this place at all. Oh! My sister pointed out the COCKROACH to the two ladies working and they just shrugged! One call to the health officials and this place would be investigated promptly!!!

This place has great food. From shrimp burritos to spinach and chicken salads to great street tacos, there are a ton of choices. Not your everyday taqueria. One of our two mainstays. Been going here for 4 years. Still love it. Owner cares about his food.

This little shop makes some top quality Mexican food. Seven members of my family descended upon El Caballo and everyone enjoyed their meals. The only issue is that the place is a little small for a big party, but we made it work. For those that want a sit down service, you should know that you need to order at the counter and then they bring your food to you. The only table service is when your food is delivered. This was fine for us and the staff was very friendly and got us anything we needed when we got up and asked. There also was a lot of people getting takeout, so you could try that if you prefer to eat at home. If you want good Mexican food at a decent price, try El Caballo. We enjoyed it.

This is such a hidden gem in Alameda. The signage isn’t the best for the place, but once you find it you won’t want to go to any another Mexican restaurant on the island. I always get their sautéed shrimp wrap… which is a burrito. They also make soups. I’ve had the chicken enchilada soup and it was delicious! Definitely check this place out.

I ordered burrito de lengua. Not sure if I was starving or if it was really good. The cuts of the meat were chewy. Something is missing like guacamole or more flavor. It’s bland. But I’ve had worse in the Bay Area.

Ordered a carne asada quesadilla that comes with sour cream and guacamole. The guacamole was delicious and so were the two salsas that came with the meal. Chips are extra. Im definitely going again!

El Caballo Wraps is almost missable in its location on Lincoln Boulevard. However, there is almost never a crowd, so that’s nice. I like how they cook the meat from scratch — right when I ordered a burrito, they threw the carne asada on the grill. While it came out fresh, the beans and corn were just so-so and made the tortilla kind of soggy. Still, it’s a solid burrito. 3.5 stars.

Very good service. I really like their super burritos. I have yet to try other things on the menu. Chips are very crunchy!

Very good reasonably priced mexican food. Not too much seating and best for to go orders. The nachos is enough to split for two people! The quesadilla is served with salsa, sour cream, guacamole on the side. Lengua is perfectly tender and seasoned. My boyfriend really enjoys the shrimp burrito. And the best part is they take card!

The only really good Mexican food in Alameda. Burritos, soups, tacos, enchiladas… all is worth trying and we go about once a week. Owner is on top of his staff and seems to really care about the quality of the food which is rare for a Mexican place this small. Call ahead to order, it saves 10 mins.

Very pleased with El Caballo. I’m upset it took me so long to try it! The staff was very friendly, the food was ready quick, and it was delicious! I will be coming back here for sure! Maybe tomorrow!

Great food! Great service! Great price! Huge portions too. I’ve been coming here for over a year. The staff always seems very happy to see us. My favorite items on the menu are the chicken enchilada soup(I always get a large one to go) and the tacos. The carne asada platter is another one of our regulars: it’s very flavorful and not heavy. And how could I forget? Huevos rancheros for breakfast! We’ve now moved to San Francisco but will continue to come here.

El Caballo wraps is a small spot with a big menu including Tortas which you mostly see only in taco trucks as well as breakfast items like huevos rancheros… The burritos are very good… Well spiced meat with no grisel and fatty pieces. The super seafood wrap burrito is booming and spicy so if you’re sensitive pass up on that one! I also love the fact that they open at 9am! I work overnights for it’s perfect for a early morning burrito!

You know when you are sick and your body is calling out for something comforting, nutritious and belly filling? When only something made from the heart will do? Well, El Caballo Wraps is my go-to place and their Rustic Chicken Soup is the dish that my body craves. I’ve had chicken tortilla soup in a variety of locations; some were good but most were not. But, this is the only version that I want to eat when I’m sick. There’s no «mystery meat» or yesterday’s vegetables to contend with. Only fresh, well made stock with large chunks of chicken and vegetables. I’m not sure what they do to make their soup so yummy; but, yummy it is. The hubby has had the carnitas plate there, too and found it equally delicious. Street parking has been improved with the relocation of Pagano’s which was next door. Now, there is no excuse to not visit them!

Best Mexican in the east bay. Fish tacos, «permanent» part of the written specials, are really the best I’ve had in California. And the chicken enchilada soup(the green one) is the best soup of any variety I’ve ever had anywhere! If you like this place try the new place by the same owner, Oscar’s Grill, on harbor bay parkway in the Penumbra plaza.
