If Fats Music doesn’t have it, be assured they will get it if it’s possible. This is such a great spot! They have an incredible selection of vinyl and it is the good/rare stuff! Max is a great owner and was able to locate an extremely hard to get edition that I was looking for. Very nice to be able to go to a place that respects the music as much as the fans!

Fats Music is a true local gem, hidden away on Webster. I wouldn’t have known it existed apart from Record Store Day, when I wanted to cop one of Sara B’s limited edition vinyls. And I would’ve missed it for a second time if I didn’t wander through the storefront, which is actually a separate store, into the back, where Fats actually is. I don’t know too much about records or rock and roll as some other Unilocalers have reviewed, but I can tell that this guy knows his stuff and has a lot of it! All of the records are neatly organized, and there are awesome guitars and photos on the walls as well. The big plus about this place is that the guy let me hold the album I was looking for. I had called all of the stores in the area participating in RSD, and some of the big ones(Amoeba, Rasputin) wouldn’t hold it for me. I’m very happy that I could at Fats! He even emailed me throughout the day — excellent customer service in my opinion — because I REALLY wanted that record. Even though I only spent a couple minutes in there because it was so dang hot that day, I definitely want to venture back and explore! So inspired to start a record collection!

You know how you’ve been waiting to find that little record shop that hardly anyone knows about so you can do as much damage to your wallet as possible without fear that someone else will nab that rare record you’ve been pining for first? This is it. I haven’t told a couple of my closest friends about it for that very reason. I’m being selfish for the time being but figured I could make up for it here. Max runs the place, and he is the $#!+. A true rock fan. If he doesn’t have it in, he has the hook up to get it in for you. He has limited space, so he doesn’t bother with having the latest cock rock band on his shelves. Classics, rarities, some new and worthy artists, it’s a great collection. And he’s not there to rip you off. He’s got a nice collection of great rock posters as well. Can’t say much about them other than you have to see them to let them speak for themselves. All in all, totally worth a trip if you’re in the market.

A great record shop in the already antique and bric a brac rich hamlet of Alameda. Fats is located behind another storefront, but easy to find and parking is a breeze. Once inside, gear up for some epic digging, as the owner, Max Garcia has painstakingly sorted and organized most of the vinyl for very easy access. Rest assured there are also boxes and boxes of more vinyl below the main stacks to provide multiple hours of searching and finding great stuff. The emphasis is on late 1960s, 1970s and 80s rock, but there are gems a plenty, including quite a nice selection of rarer and classic Hard Rock and Heavy Metal full length LPs. Don’t even go near the boxes of 7“s if time is tight… they are alphabetized and take up almost 12 feet of horizontal space! Max is friendly and knowledgeable, offers 10% coupons with every purchase(good on your next buy). Really beautiful guitars, classic photos and posters complete the classic feel of this shop. A rad vinyl era time capsule. Highly recommended!

Amazing selection of vintage rock and roll memorabilia, guitars, vinyl… you name it. The big guy really knows his stuff, too. A great alternative to buying from that online vault that rips you(and the artists) off.
