Weak cuts, worse service. Was promised a «26 minute» wait and then someone came in and bumped me. When I asked for an explanation, the inarticulate cutter pointed at her computer as if that explained something An elderly couple came in to the now empty shop and was told there would kid be a 40 minute wait. My guess is they have some kind of online check in which is pretty easy to explain and could even be a selling point This was my second time in the place. I didn’t stay for another mediocre cut and now won’t be back. It’s in a convenient location but other than that this place is a big fat ZERO

I always get my haircut by Mary. She does an excellent job! I usually have to wait, because so many people request her but it’s worth the hour wait. I never remember, but I’d call ahead and request an appointment with her.

Well, I took my 6 year old son to this place but old Lady with gray hair treated US pretty damn disrespectful! I asked her if she can cut a bit more from side of my sons hair then she got upset & shake her head all of sudden & very much like what hell what I did was damn good or something ! That kind of attitude !!! I ‘ll never go for her hair cut ! Fucking ruins my day! All I asked from her was just little more cut from side ! Worst experience!!!

I am new to this area and got my first cut here. It was terrible! I have curly hair and the lady, Tran, cut it like it was straight. She left my layers heavy which made my hair straight! I was extremely unhappy with the cut. So I went back the next day hopeing it might be fixed by another stylist. They got the manager, Laney, and she looked at the cut and was able to fix it, but my hair had to be cut into my summer cut because the first stylist had already cut it and straightening it out meant cutting it shorter, which was actually ok. She did a great job and didn’t charge me for the cut.

Im a first time customer to Great Clips and came in on a whim today for a much over do haircut. My hair was getting super long and losing any previous style due to its length. Honestly, getting a haircut is super stressful for me and with my anxiety disorder its hard for me to go in for a simple cut. However, I felt no anxiety or worry when my hair was put in Tran’s hands. She was very professional and made me feel welcomed with a big smile as soon as I walked in the door. She really listened to what I wanted done to my hair and respected my decision to not cut a huge amount of hair off of me like every stylist in Alameda has done to me. She knows the true meaning of «cut one inch». She made pleasant conversation and told me she’s been cutting hair for 3 years. She honestly seemed like a seasoned pro. I really appreciate not being talked to constantly and being overwhelmed. She would show me periodically what she was doing by handing me a mirror and turning the chair around so I could see the layers she was doing on the back of my head. She worked efficiently and I am truly happy with my cut for the first time in many many years. Added bonus was Great Clips has little privacy curtain thing in between styling chairs so it really felt more personable. It was also nice not to be talked into a million different products as most stylists would do with pushing products or their own ideas that you really don’t want or understand. Tran has earned me as a permanent client from now on. Oh and I should mention the price was very good. Spent $ 16 for a haircut and was sure to tip her well for her professional, friendly, and expect cut. Thank you Tran!

I just got a quick trim with Mona. She was great, very conversational and friendly. It wasn’t so busy as I expected, I was in and out and was satisfied with the layering of my hair. Price was reasonable. Overall great experience! Thanks!

What kind of hair salon doesn’t even ask what you want done to your hair? My son just got home from this place and told me the woman who cut his hair didn’t even cut the top. When he asked to have it shorter she told him it couldn’t be done. I had to fix this mess myself. According to the receipt this was done by Mona. I’m giving this place two stars because it was at least fixable and not a total ruin. Go here if you don’t care what you look like.

Worst place ever. It is holiday no other places were open. I had to try it since I was gonna go to event that night. And I canceled my event because they messed my hair really bad that I have to wear a hat for at least 2 weeks now.

Forget getting a fade or showing up around 9. You’ll get a rush job. I was in a pinch and all other options were closed. I show up and asked for a fade. She buzzed the sides and back and left the top very uneven. Of course I didn’t notice till I got home and my wife pointed it out to me… I thought about going back but I didn’t want it to get worse. Had to pay someone else to get it fixed. Absolutely horrible place for a cut.

Definitely agree it is hit or miss, HOWEVER… I randomly went in a few weeks ago and had the BEST haircut I’ve had in a long time. Everywhere I went I received complements just walking down the street! The stylist’s name is Carik, a young Asian man and I recommend you ask for him, at least if you have a short cut like I do. There was a woman who cut my hair the other day because Carik was not there, and I look like a little boy with a bowl cut. I can’t wait to go back when Carik is working so he can fix it up for me. ASKFORCARIK for an amazing short cut!

This place is clean. Staff is polite. Salon usually busy. Have been going to Great Clips in Alameda over 3 yrs and constantly get compliments on my cuts, even when it is time to get another one! Now, that’s says a lot! I am very happy with my stylist!

Lynde always does a fantastic job on both my hair as well as my husbands. We typically don’t have to wait more than 5 minutes and the hair cut itself is always done quickly. I have very curly hair and my husbands hair grows weird but neither seem to phase Lynde and we always walk out of there with a smile:)

I went to get a haircut here yesterday. I was skeptical after reading all the reviews, but gave it a shot nonetheless. It was a great experience: I didn’t have to wait even though I just walked in, and I got a nice haircut. My stylist was a nice lady who has years of expertise and she was friendly & down-to-earth(full disclosure: I may be more than a little biased towards this place since she remarked that she likes my wavy hair). The place lacks a receptionist, so you’ll find the stylists balancing between their hair-cutting duties and tending to the register. It’s got a nice location in Southshore, with free parking as opposed to the other barbershops on Park St. I’ll probably come back here again.

Came in here for a quick trim during my half hour break and I was impressed with the stylist I worked with. I forget his name, but he knew I was on a time crunch and helped me right away. I normally go to «higher end» salons who know what I like but I needed a trim ASAP! He did not disappoint and was very attentive to what I wanted. I asked for a layer trim and to keep the length! He did just that. The price was reasonable, I remember paying under $ 20 that’s with a nice tip included. This place is great for a basic hair cut, however they don’t offer anything more than cuts such as styling and color. Good place for a quick fix though!

My hair was getting shaggy and I was desperate for a haircut before going back to work the next day. It was 5pm and a lot of salons and barber shops were about to close, so I took a bet on this one since it was closest to my place. I sat down and was told it’ll be 15 minutes. Cool. The person ahead of me just finished and left, so I got up to get ready to sit down in the chair. The lady said, «Wait a minute, someone else just check in online, so it’ll be a bit longer.» «How much longer?» I said. «Well, we’re closing soon, so you’ll get your chance.» «How much longer,» I kept asking. «Maybe… 15 – 20 more minutes?» I walked out. Look, I like the Internet and I like the way it’s revolutionizing businesses, but allowing customers who bothered to show up and wait to get bumped by people checking in online is NOT okay. This kind of business model should not be rewarded, ever.

The wait is way too long, and you’ll get a woman who doesn’t speak English and doesn’t understand how you want your hair cut. I was growing out my hair for my wedding earlier this year… only to have my hair completely buzzed. I’m a dude and it’s the first time I ever felt like crying over something as superficial as a bad haircut. But when you’ve been growing your hair for that long…

Can anybody say… «GOTOSCHOOL!» Talk about a place that feels very uncomfortable using shears. I went there two times for a cut. Here’s how it went down. 1st time: I asked the stylist to use scissors for the top while using the electric razor on the side would be fine. She said that it would look better shaving the top. I asked her again if she could use scissors for the top. She said, «trust me,» grabbed a 4 clip, and buzzed the entire top of my head. Needless to say, I was UP-SET. I don’t know why I still tipped her, but I did. 2nd time: The same woman was there and I was in dire need of a cut. I decided to mention my last cut by saying it was too short the last time. I asked her again if she could use scissors for the top. I didn’t want the top to look so even like that of a helmet. She said, don’t worry, I won’t cut it too short this time. After halfway through the cut, she pulls out a 5 clip. I stop her and ask her if she could use scissors and not the razor. She said that it would be okay and proceeded to buzz the top of my head with that 5 clip. I was in shock. I didn’t think something like this could be possible. If it were considered professional to include expletives in a Unilocal review, believe me, they would be all over this thing.

Never go here! There was this one woman who did a decent job. She hardly works there these days. The last time I came in, a woman cut my hair who looked like the mom of the villains in «the goonies» but on steroids, 20 years later. She kept saying«sweeeet» even when I wasn’t talking to her. The clippers felt like they were yanking my hair out, like a painful extraction done by Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I don’t like to tourture myself, so unless you are a freak of nature, «Ruuuun toooo the hiiiiiiilllllllllssss»…
