This is a thank you to Lisa, in customer service for going the extra mile. My elderly mother lost her wallet and car keys in the parking lot and one of the employees found it. Since I was listed as the ICE contact, Lisa called to let me know. Of course I was borderline frantic, as I am several hundred miles away. After a few phones calls, during which Lisa was very helpful, she paged my mother and ultimately found her to return her wallet and keys. Everyone’s day is filled with responsibilities, and what may have seemed like a part of the job, or a small thing, to one person, can mean so much to the person impacted. So from a customer service perspective, THANKYOU!

I can’t believe in all my Unilocaling I never reviewed them. I went in here way more the first two times we were here for work, and the prices can be over the top expensive, but when they have a sale, they have a good one. They always have some cool exotic fruits too. In october they had jack fruit, I had never seen that before and wanted to try it, but got distracted and forgot all about them, so I should venture back and see what is on hand now. The produce here has always looked good and this is an area the sales aren’t too bad. The store is very tired compared to the new Safeway and Target, but it gets the job done. They have a hot deli section and a meat counter in the back, small but it has a nice selection. The prices are high but I still think Safeway is more expensive. The lines here move pretty quick and they do seem busy most of the time.

My family has shopped here since the store opened. We have known most of the staff just as long and have always been happy here. This year for Thanksgiving we decided to order a Turkey Holiday Meal. It was fantastic! Flavorful, economical and easy to prepare, it is the best deal ever! We are going to do it again for Christmas! Thank you.

I could do a much better job at managing this store as I think it has good potential. It has the obvious problem of staff courtesy and cleanliness but that can be corrected with proper management. The absolute killer for me though is the hygiene issue. I have watched the meat dept people drag their filthy sleeves over meat and fish in the meat dept. Many times, I have asked them to please roll up their sleeves and they typically respond with«it’s cold in here» or they push them up for a minute just to have them fall back down. I think they wear these dark sweaters daily and don’t realize how filthy their sleeves really are. On the last visit, I was ordering a sandwich at the deli counter and was watching one of the deli workers making a large salad in a very large salad bowl and her long sleeves from her sweater were right in there with the salad. I even pointed this out to the lady in line next to me and she told me to speak with her husband who happened to work for the health dept and was in the store. A few minutes later, he joined us and I informed him of the issue. He told me to contact the department of health and they would surely do something about it. I told him that I already had emailed the health department and obviously nothing was done. ARGH

I agree 100% with Nicole’s review. However, with a new Lucky card, I am now bombarded with emails counting my «points» and offering specials. I don’t have time for this — just give me lower prices across the board and I’ll continue to patronize your store.

It just smells weird and does not feel clean. The produce section scares me, nothing looks fresh.

Terrible customer service. The experience is always one of two things, the line is going down the aisle and they don’t get more people to help. Two, you do self check out and the person is completely not doing their job, and then out of no where will try to chime in. Ask you if you’re doing it correctly, if you paid for your bag. There’s too much socializing between employees and the people who work here aren’t intelligent enough to handle anything close to multitasking because the store doesn’t run even close to efficiently enough to do so. I’ve never had a good experience here. It’s the closest grocery store to my house but it is the worst grocery store on the island.

Terrible customer service. The customer service here is extraordinarily bad. The employees here have no interest in selling the store’s products. I went to the self-service line and when I tried to buy an item, the machine kept repeating wait for assistance. However, no one appeared.(Despite the fact employees were standing around.) I waited for a long time and finally put my items on the machine and left.(I wasn’t the only one who did so.) If a store doesn’t want my money, I’ll spend it somewhere else. Shopping here is usually an unpleasant experience. The first time I went through the self-service section, the woman at the counter did nothing buy rudely yell orders. She made no effort to explain the system. The store probably has the worst customer service of anyplace in Alameda.(And Lucky’s used to have the best– anyone remember Casey. I have been in Alameda since 1976. Lucky’s has fallen apart.

For a big chain grocery store, I like lucky’s just fine. Easy parking, easy access and I have always found the staff to be very attentive and friendly. The Pacific Coast brand of foods has some great stuff. Re: complaints about long lines… please, show me a grocery store at rush hour on a weekday that isn’t busy. Have you BEEN to whole foods at 5PM? Re: people making comments about«ghetto trash» and«hood» customers and workers — I’m always pretty sad to see this kind of judgmental attitude and your class-ism has no place in a Unilocal review in my opinion. Completely unhelpful — zero stars for you.

The 2 stars are STRICTLY for location. How is this place still in business?! The prices are comparable to Nob Hill, but at Nob Hill I don’t have to deal with ghetto trash or long ass lines. I don’t understand how this is the most expensive store in Alameda and everyone who works here is hood and unfriendly. With the new Safeway on the west end, I’m hoping this place will close. Keep your fingers crossed!

I’m surprised at all the negative reviews. I shop here regularly because it’s close to home and have never had any customer service issues. In fact, I find the customer service at the bayfarm Safeway is horrible. I once had an item that wouldn’t scan at the self checkout and the employee tried to help me and when she couldn’t do it, she called a bagger to find the product on the shelf for another sku. They were both really helpful and patient.

This happened on Sunday. One of the cashier is so rule. I feel I was insult. Her behaviour was so offend to me and inappropriate as a cashier/front line employee. How a large company like Lucky can hire and tolerate this kind of employee. I will spread the words and I will make an official complain! The company image ruin by her. Shame on her!!!

Would give this zero stars if I could. Filthy store, rude and incompetent employees. The ONLY reason I EVER come in here is because the lure of it being the only grocery store actually on my way home from work. I have learned my lesson and will not be back. I hope that when the new Safeway opens, this place goes out of business.

I went into Lucky’s on a Friday since it was having a Thursday/Friday special on 16⁄20 count jumbo prawns for $ 7.99 lb. None of the prawns were in the display case, so I asked the fish monger about the prawns on sale. He said they were sold out but they were substituting the 31⁄40 count prawns for the same price. What? The smaller prawns at the same price? They should cost less that the larger 16⁄20 prawns. The fish monger goes on to say that the prawns on smaller, but you get more per a pound. Duh? Really? You think I’m going to fall for your lame sales pitch? I was able to get a raincheck for the out of stock prawns. But this Lucky’s still doesn’t cease to amaze me with its«high» caliber employees. Still justifying my one star rating.

I like Lucky at Marina Village. I went there at 915pm on Sunday, and there were no lines. Sunday night is the best time to shop to avoid crowds anywhere. But I wanted to try the Luckys instead of Safeway. The store was bright and clean. Lots of items were on sale. But certain items were sold out… like strawberries. Free parking. Friendly staff.

This store can use some serious personal training in customer service. Most of the time when I go through their self check out, the person who is monitoring the tills are either talking to each other or staring into space. I have to go over and flag the person to get his or her attention. For basic produce it is decent but it does not compare to the variety at Safeway or the freshness of Nob Hill(which for the most part is overpriced). The meat section is a hit or miss. Sometimes it is fresh and other times it just looks like leftover road kill. What always grosses me out at this Lucky’s is that their deli meat always looks like it has been sitting there for months on end. Their roast beef is grayish brown instead of the fleshy pink it should be. Their turkey cold cuts on display have a grayish tint to it. As for their butcher section, I bypass it all together as there is always this disgusting fishy smell emanating from the area. The best things here are if you like odd ethnic foods and the dinner rolls. It is a ok spot to shop due to location but once the Safeway opens on Stargell it will be interesting to see what will happen to this store.

The location of this Lucky is convenient and I come here from time to time to pick up standard, run-of-the-mill groceries and products that are commonly found in large-chain grocery stores. The selection is adequate, workers are generally friendly and I’ve found them to be fairly helpful in the past. So why 2 stars and not 3? SHOPPINGBASKETSHORTAGE. They only have, like, 5 of them or something. Whether they’re busy or I’m the only customer in the entire store, there are never, ever any available shopping baskets. I’m usually purchasing more items than my arms can carry, but too few for the inconvenience of a shopping cart. I once asked an employee where I could find more shopping baskets: Me: Where can I find a shopping basket? I’ve been looking, but I don’t see any. Employee:(hesitantly) Um… sometimes you might be able to find one in the self-checkout. Me: Ooookaaaaay… It’s a shopping basket, not a unicorn. This shouldn’t be something that’s impossible to find at a grocery store.
