What can I say about Tara-​Nicholle Nelson that the other reviews haven’t said already? As a single professional woman I am the brand new first-​time homebuyer of a wonderful 3bdrm 2ba home in the foothills of Oakland thanks to Tara. I am a die-​hard HGTV fan and was browsing their
site when I came across Tara’s Do’s & Don’ts home buying short videos. I was impressed with her knowledge and her advice, and not to mention that I identified with her as a young African-​American woman. I was pleasantly surprised to see that she was located right here in Oakland! When we met I was in the process of interviewing realtors, saving money and just really getting my feet wet in real estate. After meeting with Tara I immediately made my decision to start my home buying process with her (which I might add was 3 hours long because we ended up talking like old friends that have known each other forever!) I was adamant on saving up a 20% down payment before buying a home because I thought that was the only way to get the best rates. Tara shared her resources and knowledge with me and quickly showed me alternate ways to bring my home buying dream into closer view with much less than 20% down.
Tara gets to know YOU before she will allow you to step foot into a home. She learns your hobbies, lifestyle, absolute must haves and deal breakers, etc. so that she won’t waste your time showing your homes that won’t meet your wants or needs. As a woman who travels 70% out of the year for work this consideration was a MUST. She is personable, HILARIOUS, attentive, and always on the mark. Although she juggles multiple clients with different personalities, needs, wants, issues, etc. I always felt like her only client. Her attention to detail, her giving spirit, prayers and even a little ingenuity every now and then ;) made a frustrating 6-​month home buying experience (solely on the part of the seller & listing agent) a breeze on my end (She also works with the most FABULOUS mortgage broker I’ve ever seen — these two can part the Red Sea if you need them to LOL!) So, truly, after talking every day for six months straight she really is my «old friend.»
If you are a first time homebuyer I highly recommend Tara.
If you are buying your second or fifth home I highly recommend Tara.
If you are re-​locating in the Bay Area I highly recommend Tara.
If you are a control freak I highly recommend Tara.
If you are anxious or slightly fearful about buying a home I highly recommend Tara.

I will tell you all what I’ve been telling ALL of my friends ever since the day I met Tara… YOU HAVE TO TALK TO THIS WOMAN!!! Seriously, I’m totally not lying, if you have even had a PASSING THOUGHT about buying a home… TALK TO TARA! If you feel like you want to but CAN’T or shouldn’t b/​c of this or that and have a million reasons why it won’t work out… TALK TO TARA! I’m not saying she’s a Miracle Worker (although, I’m not saying she’s NOT a Miracle Worker either) I’m just saying that you will never know what is possible until you try, first of all. And then secondly Tara is a realist and an Optimist at the same time! I know that sounds weird maybe but let’s just put it this way, IF there is SOME way to work it out in your favor, she’ll find it and try her best to make it happen.
Tara is the most personable, FUNNY and just down-​to-​earth person I ever met. I loved her immediately. She will make you feel like you have been friends for years. And with something as LONG and TRYING as buying your first home can be, she is exactlly the kind of person you need on your side.
Tara is communicative, patient, and EXTREMELY knowledgeable. She was always looking out for our best interest and knew just what to do to make things all better.
My whole homebuying process from start to finish was about 5 mos and during that time we spoke nearly every day. She really became like a friend to us and we appreciated that.
So in conclusion… TALK TO TARA… if you know what’s good for you!

I would be lying if I said buying my first home was a breeze and super easy, because it wasn’t, but I lucked out when I chose Tara as my real estate agent. She (along with my mortgage broker) made a very difficult transaction (during the whole mortgage crisis) a reality for me. With her great negotiation skills, Tara got me a great price on my first home with a ton of incentives.
At our first meeting, at the Venus Restaurant in Berkeley (fabulous organic food), she was personable, honest and attentive. She asked pertinent questions to get to the heart of what I was looking for in a home. Tara also gave me an autographed copy of her great and educational book, The Savvy Woman’s Homebuying Handbook: 150 Insider Secrets, Decision-​Making Guides and Online Resources, plus the ONE Action Plan You Need and asked to me to read the first couple of chapters and complete the exercises (very helpful).
The fact that she was able to deal with me for so long speaks volumes! As a first time homebuyer I had a ton of questions, energy and anxiety. Tara was able to calm my fears, while giving me insight into the whole home buying process. Oh and she’s also an expert in East Bay properties and neighborhoods, so if your looking in the Oakland, San Leandro, Hayward areas, call her!
