This place is really messed up. Their phone has actually rung for 23 minutes without an answer. I normally have to send 4 to 6 email and phone messages to my doctor before I get a response. This means I wait for weeks to get help. It’s literally true that my dog gets better consideration from his vet than I do from Alamo Medical Group doctors.

I tried to schedule an appointment here and was told you have to first have an appointment to get«established» before they will see you for any additional appointments – even a physical. The scheduling person, Christina, was very inappropriate and rude and combative, saying, «we won’t just take anyone off the street.» She was incredibly snippy, when I was very calm and just trying to find a new doctor. Unfortunately, this group came highly recommended to me, but they will be losing 2 new patients before we could even see the doctors. I tried to make a complaint with their manager, to be transferred to a line that never answered. I have no knowledge if the doctors would have been good at all since I could barely get by a rude receptionist.

My doctor here is sweet, kind, and generally comprehensive. That said, I’ve experienced the same issues here that so many women I’ve spoken with experience with medical care professionals in the U.S. I often feel brushed off, spoken to brusquely, my concerns pushed under the rug in the name of my doctor getting me out of her office so she can move on to her next patient as quickly as possible. Even when I come in with serious concerns, I feel subtly pressured to avoid asking for clarification or asking all the questions I come in with. I feel like I need to «get with the program», to accept whatever diagnosis I am handed even when it is clear my doctor isn’t really listening to what I am telling her. When someone asks you the same question three times in ten minutes, it’s fairly obvious they weren’t paying attention the first time, hmm? Though I think she tries hard, I don’t think she notices much about me beyond whatever my vitals, weight etc. tell her regarding how«normal» my body is functioning. If I come in feeling physically terrible yet my vitals are fine, for example, to her that seems to mean I am doing just fine. yet to me, well – if I were really fine, I would expect to FEEL fine rather than terrible-! I realize these problems are profession-wide, not centered on my individual doctor. however, just because it is normal for doctors to see their patients as essentially machines with brains attached, doesn’t mean I wish to be seen thusly. I would prefer my doctor strive for excellence a little more and mere competence according to the current [sexist] norms of her field a little bit less. When two different lab tech employees prove utterly incompetent at sticking the needle into my vein to draw blood, only to have a third employee manage this apparently Herculean feat quickly and gracefully, and with just one«poke” – well, that doesn’t make my view of this place any brighter, let’s just put it that way. Expect long wait times on the phone. This is basically the only game in town, but I don’t have to like it.
