The people work here and serve the type of food they would cook for themselves, which is fantastic because the food has a great down home taste. It’s a slow paced and friendly Thai place with very authentic spices and recipes. Very solid place to go for dinner.

We’ve come here a couple times over the past two years and we’ve never had a bad experience food/service/communication-wise. This time, we ordered a ton of food to take out over the phone for about 10 people in a staff meeting, among whom were some vegetarians. Excellent communication, great food, great prices. Because I wasn’t sure I could pronounce all the menu items efficiently, I asked to submit the order by email when I called in, and it went fine. I misheard the email initially, but we cleared that right up when I called back. They offered to label each container, and they labeled like champs and accommodated my additional request to show which dishes were vegetarian. I’d sent the order as a spreadsheet table, so they printed the table out and cut it up to make neat labels – my staff appreciated knowing what each dish was so that they didn’t have to go poking around. They also accommodated the need to have an itemized receipt, even though they use a handwritten receipt, by very neatly writing out all the items we ordered. Then they packed all the containers very neatly in a box with handles, and had one of their staff carry it to the car. Most excellent. Everyone wanted to know where the great food came from, and I was only too happy to tell them.

Super friendly and fast service with tasty food. I like the silver noodles with shrimp and the phở. They take good care of me there and I appreciate it!

I decided to try then for the second time today. I’m sick with a cold and decided to get the vegetarian pumpkin curry and the fresh vegetarian rolls to go. When I got home the rolls looked awful! The lettuce in it was brown and the vegetables tasted like they had been out for a while… Then I tried my «mild» pumpkin curry and it was the most spicy food I’ve ever tried! Don’t get me work, I like flavor and a little kick in my food. I called them to let them know that they should check their vegetables for the rolls and that my curry was too spicy, they seemed annoyed even tho I was not asking for a refund. I told them next time they can credit something in my next order. I’m for sure never going back!

The Kao Soi is the best I have ever had. You must try this. It is a very rich, curry and noodle dish so don’t expect a salad.

This is not a gourmet restaurant. The Thai food is very simple and seemed to be prepared with mid-quality ingredient such as corn starch in the sauce. I believe the toilet condition and appointment is frequently a good indicator of the pride and effort the owner puts into his or her establishment.

Flavors that won’t break the bank. That’s how we like to roll. For the on-point highlights, I’d highly recommend the pao noodle dish and the eggplant salad. Tasted great together, separate, with rice, however you like. The flavors are rich, deep, and complex. You won’t be able to go back to your daily life after this. Super nice service and fast turnaround, but not in a rushed sort of way. The place is also super clean, which is always reassuring. All in all, AMAZING. I only wish it were closer, but for kick-ass Thai, I’d be hard pressed to go anywhere else.

The restaurant is clean and people are very friendly. We ordered the green chicken curry and the server gave us a cup of rice, as courtesy. The curry was creamy and slightly green but very flavorful! Chicken was not chewy.

I used to pass by this place all the time and never think twice about it because its location and appearance is a bit nondescript. A dang shame, I must say. Buuuut once I went in and tried their chicken noodle soup a few years ago, I was instantly hooked and have been going there to satisfy my frequent«phở» cravings since. I say phở with quotes because it’s not technically what you would expect from a chicken phở. The broth is what really sets this«phở» apart from any other chicken phở. It is really one of a kind and has hints of spice and garlic and all kinds of yumminess. It also comes with bok choy in the soup which is different from a typical phở but is nonetheless a nice addition to balance the meal. I know it is probably one of the least eye catching items on the menu, but I HIGHLY recommend giving it a chance. In all honesty, I haven’t ordered much else besides the chicken noodle soup here but my friends have and they are usually very satisfied. My heart belongs to this place!

The fact that I’ve never had Tofu Pad Prik Khing until now is making me reconsider my life thus far. It was amazing. Very deep flavors, none of this watered down stuff. Also, some of the best larb gai I’ve ever had. Super friendly service too!

My girlfriend and I drove by this place a few times and decided to give it a try because we didn’t know where else to go. Ordered fried shrimp and calamari for our appetizer, Beef Noodle Soup and vegetarian Drunken Noodles. The service here was impeccable and our food came out really fast, but it was fairly empty for a Saturday night. The food was fine, but the drunken noodles had more vegetables than noodles, which is not necessarily a bad thing. What certainly wasn’t good was the amount of oil in the noodles. The beef noodles were decent but the portion was a little small in comparison to the drunken noodles. The meat was quite flavorless because the slices were a little too thick. I like this place because of the friendly servers and the convenient location but the food wasn’t as tasty as I expected. Willing to give this place another try in the near future.

Great spot. Delicious, reasonably priced, unique dishes. Poor overhead lighting, but not a deal breaker. We had Rainbow Trout Special — Fish saucey, but unique. Maybe trout was a little thinner and more overdone than I wanted it, but that’s probably just the style for fried trout. Kao Soi — So good! A thick yellow curry soup with those crunchy noodles. This was awesome, though it could’ve used a few more veggies. Great flavor. Lemongrass Vegetable tofu dish — Super tasty. A traditional brown sauce, but three kinds of tofu-esque things. One was a beef-esque veggie meat, the other, I can’t remember, but I’m so glad we got this one. Spring Rolls — veggie are too salty, but still worth getting. Overall, it was tasty and worth it, but I’d love it if they turned off the overhead lights. Did not smell any bad smells another reviewer mentioned.

I was starving at lunch time the other day and was heading from Richmond to Berkeley. So I thought I would stop at a restaurant on the way where there was decent parking and get some nice Thai food I looked up on Unilocal found this place with four stars. It was on the way and so I stopped I went in and as soon as I opened the door I noticed the smell of a bathroom not a bad smell but an air freshener smell. I figured they must have one of those air freshener machines in their bathroom that spews out toxic chemicals on a regular basis and that it must have gone haywire,(this happens sometimes) and that it smelled up the whole restaurant with this artificial flower air freshener sent. I went to the bathroom but didn’t notice one of these machines inside. Hmmmm. I decided to stay because I was really hungry and I was expecting the food to be pretty good. I ate my meal and then I noticed there was a container in the middle of the restaurant sitting on the divider where the plants were separating tables from one side of the room to the other. It was one of those containers that has chemical air freshener inside of it that the owners of the restaurant deliberately placed in the middle of the restaurant. Now when I go into a restaurant I want to smell food. I want to smell the yummy delicious food that’s cooking. I don’t want to smell artificial lavender and chamomile. And aside from the smell, most of these air fresheners are endocrine disruptors and toxic to the human body so I definitely don’t want to walk into a restaurant and be imposed upon by someone’s misguided idea of what they think their restaurant should smell like. And it made me wonder what smell are they trying to cover up? Have they had water damage and now the place is smelling of mold and mildew? Are there dead rats in the wall that are rotting in stinking the place up? I don’t know. All I know is that I will not be going back to this place anytime soon because yuck! gross! And yes, I did ask them why they had this air freshener in the middle of the restaurant. The waiter didn’t know and the cook just looked at me. On a side note-the food was pretty good. I had the green curry with chicken and added green veggies. Would be good for take-out, I think :/

Da Nang Krungthep is absolutely delicious! We have many Thai/Vietnamese restaurants in the Berkeley area, but none as delicious as this one. I usually get the Tom Kha Gai soup, which is coconut milk, lemongrass, mushrooms, chicken, and galanga. I get it spicy, and it is fantastic! It’s a great soup to eat on cold days, or if you’re sick. Clears the sinuses and kills all the bad germmies with that spice! The Kao Pad Gai Tod is also extremely delicious. Fried rice with deep fried chicken on top. Also, the fried sweet potatoes. Everything has phenomenal flavor, plus everything is displayed nicely when brought out. The service is friendly and they are attentive for usually only have one server on the floor. I have only been during lunch hours, but I am very satisfied with what they have to offer.

This is by far my favorite Thai restaurant. I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to write a review but here goes: My favs: * Pad See Ew! — I usually get tofu. I love the flavor of their noodles. I usually get it medium spicy, but be careful because their spice level is pretty high when you get it spicy. I love spicy and once I got the highest spicy and it was almost unbearable. I’ve found medium to be a nice level. * Green Curry Salmon — the green curry is so flavorful and well seasoned. I have a high salt tolerance, so some might find it salty, but I love it. Salmon is cooked perfectly, but eat it quick, because it will continue to cook in the curry and can easily overcook if you let it sit too long. * Beef Salad — when I want something refreshing I got for this. Love the flavor!!! I believe they use fish sauce so if you’re bringing someone who isn’t used to that flavor it might be a bit much. I’ve also had a few different fried rices which are great. Not a huge fan of the pad Thai, but it’s growing on me. They have delicious phở(weird I know, but the broth was really good). We usually get their bbq pork plate which is what it sounds likes, pork that’s grilled, but that’s good as well. We’ve had the shrimp salad, duck salad and some appetizers, but my go to is definitely the pad see ew. I recently adopted a new diet and I am vegan a couple days a week. After talking to the staff, they are able to accommodate any dietary needs, so I am able to make the pad see ew vegan(no fish sauce, no eggs, tofu instead of meat). I still prefer regular but it’s nice to have that option(which they can do with everything except their curries). I highly recommend this place. Also great for kids during lunch hours(not sure about dinner).

5 star food: panang mango curry was smooth and rich, full of flavor. Brown rice was perfectly cooked. Food came out hot and relatively quickly. 2.5 star service: serious language barrior going on… difficulties getting waitress’s attention/understanding to order, trouble with communicating my order, trouble getting my check.

I love the curry dishes they offer they have great flavor. Pad thai is good as well. We’ve ate here a few times and we always order more than we can eat but left overs are good too and they taste better with the flavors settling into the dishes we order. The owner is a super nice guy Clean and orderly restaurant.
