The reason for the 1 star is to let those who don’t yet know that this store is no longer in existence. I understand that Ben and Bill’s Deli in the Slingerlands Price Chopper uses the same corned beef and pastrami. Your other option is to drive to the company’s retail store in Troy, NY, 12 Industrial Park Rd. This is also where those famous little Helmbold hot dogs are produced. They have weekday and Saturday hours. You could try calling them(518) 273‑0810, or check them out on FaceBook. I agree with those who rave about their corned beef and pastrami… especially the pastrami.

Old World Provisions IS at good as it gets! I challenge anyone to find a better hot pastrami — YUM!!! They have the half sours(which I love and are so hard to find) — very fresh, very crunchy. The bread is excellent… So buy the fixin’s and go buy some coleslaw somewhere and make your own russian dressing*…then you can pretend that you are in NYC at a REAL deli. Let’s hope that they will be successful enough to open a small restaurant and sell sandwiches and be open on Saturdays PLEASE! *how to make Russian Dressing: mix ½ cup Hellman’s mayo, with 1 teas. pickle relish, and 1⁄3 cup Heinz ketchup.

Long a distributor of corned beef and pastrami to places like the famed Katz Deli, Old World Provisions now has a retail outlet down on the corner of N. Pearl and Westerlo St. I love little more in life than a good reuben, so I was quite excited about the prospect of the place. Seriously, few things please me as much as the combination of corned beef/pastrami, sauerkraut, mustard and rye bread. I like the simplicity of the offerings here. There’s freshly sliced hot or cold corned beef and pastrami, along with Gold’s deli mustard, loaves of rye bread, six-packs of Dr. Brown’s soda and the most delicious half-sour pickles I’ve had in a long time. And that’s pretty much about it. Well, they also sell beef tongue, beef bacon and all-beef hot dogs, but that’s literally it. They won’t make you a sandwich, but they will sell you nearly all the fixings for a delicious pastrami on rye. If this place did make the sandwiches for you and there was a place to sit, well, then it would get bumped up to that next star. For now, I’ll settle for the delicious hot pastrami, even if they don’t sell the sauerkraut to go with it.
